LCD's are not cheap. They are generally more expensive then Plasma displays for the same sized screen. They are also not more reliable then plasma displays. LCD's have a single point of failure in the backlight. LCD's also do not have a longer life span then current plasma displays, although, you can change the backlight when it burns out. The Spectrum article concludes that LCD's will win over plasma, not because of any of the reasons you mention, but because of scale of manufacture.
Unreenforced masonary buildings are a death trap in an earthquake zone. They will crumble in a quake and bury anyone inside. In many parts of California if you rent out or sell an unreenforced masonary building you are required to list it prominently in any contract.
Some ideas that seem obvious now were not so obvious 25 years ago. For example, Changing a web page based on a users previous habits. If storing a users data so they can buy without entering it is valid a valid patent then generating dynamic content based on a users browsing habbits is at least as patent worthy.
Sure, High school might be stupid but dropping out is even more stupid. In HS I did my homework in the 15 min breaks between classes and during lunch. I went to community college instead of taking HS math my senior year. I got into a top college and made more during my summers then most HS dropouts make all year. If you are smart and motivated you don't drop out.
Well, as of now you are out some money. Nintendo stock just hit an all time high. Possibly because investors see that Nintendo is the only company poised to make any money from this generation.
You are playing a roleplaying game and you never once mentioned anything about roleplaying. An RPG is not about items. Its not about skill. It is about socializing in an enviorment with your friends. The reason you dont like the game is because you are not playing the game. You are given an enviorment to do pretty much anything you want. What you do is up to you. No one forces you to grind for hours to get an item. You set goals yourself and you complete them yourself. The game is not simple, you are simple. The only goals you can figure out are "Kill people in PvP" and "Collect shiney objects". Have you every assaulted a city? Have you ever fought infront of packed arena to test your metal against other players? Have you started a trading company? Have you attended a wedding? Have you gone skydiving? Have you challenged your friend to a fishing contest? Have you gone at a tavern after a long day slaying demons? Have you ever chased an outlaw an collected the bounty on his head?
An RPG is not supposed to be hard to play. Its not supposed to take any "skill". Have you every played a pen and paper RPG? It requires no "Skill" other then bringing together a few friends.
There is nothing to stop a DVD player from just picking up where it left off. Cheaper players wont have this feature of course but im sure nicer players do. As for running a DVD, I find children firgure it our faster then adults.
I do not think video on demand will hit it big anytime soon. By the same token I do not think HD-DVD or Blue ray will take off. At least not like DVD did. With the majority of people still not owning an HDTV hi-def formats do not have the market base DVD did. It could be years before the market expands enough for significant HD-DVD/Blueray penetration. Furthermore HD-DVD/Blueray only offer a picture quality advantage over DVD. DVD killed VHS because of many reasons.
1) It was cheaper to produce.
2) It was Digital, so it did not degrade when playing.
3) You did not have to rewind.
4) You can skip to any part of the movie.
5) It is far more durable.
6) There was extra storage
HD-DVD and Blueray only have #6. Many consumers may not see the need to upgrade even if they have an HDTV. For them DVD is good enough. Its cheap, easy to find, and does what they need. In a few years, when HDTV has reached sufficient penetration, who knows what new format may be on the horizon. Advances in CPU power and data compression might make both formats obsolete before they reach the mass market. They may very well be religated to a bridging format like laserdisk and VCD.
If you were to look at a picture of the entire planet it would be impossible to make out the KFC logo. You can only see it if you zoom in very close. The Great Wall is nearly 4000 miles long and it is just barely visible from near earth orbit.
With the PS3 launch Sony has left the door open for Nintendo to sweep this generation but Nintendo must follow up. For all of its flaws Sony has put together a nice piece of hardware in the PS3. If Sony had followed up with a good price point and a strong launch I have no doubt that they would have maintained thier lead in this generation. Unfortunatly for them they have misstepped. The combination of a high price point and tight supply will keep Sony from moving enough units to take a clear lead early in the consol race. This gives Nintendo the chance to show the world that this is the DS vs PSP all over again.
When the DS came out people were interested in it but skittish because it was something there were unfamiliare with. Sony could have won right here but they misjudged. The PSP was expensive and, because of an LCD shortage, Sony could not make enough units. Both the PSP and DS languished. With no killer apps on either side there was nothing to drive sales. Then, Nintendo cane out with Nintendogs and everything just clicked. It was that simple game that brought home the whole Idea of the DS. Momentum from Nintendogs drove sales of the DS which, in turn, drove sales of other software. Because the DS was simpler to make then the PSP Nintendo was able to ramp up production and they ran with it. Now the DS is outselling the PSP 5:1 in Japan.
Will we see the same thing happen with the Wii VS PS3? That depends on Nintendo. It looks like high price and production problems will keep the PS3 at bay for at least 6 months. If Nintendo can come up with the killer app they can gain the momentum. With the Wii being much easier to produce Nintendo can saturate the market and take the momentum away from Sony. If Sony looses momentum it becomes very hard to justify the $250 price difference and the market will fall to Nintendo.
That is only one possible outcome though. If the Killer app fails to materialize, Sony ramps up production, and they are aggresive with price cuts Sony will probably run away with the market again. If Both Nintendo and Sony flounder we may end up with no clear winner this generation.
But what about Microsoft? At this point it is very unlikely that Microsoft will pull off an upset. Here is why. Microsoft is positioned uncomfortably as the middle man. Not as powerful and sexy and the PS3 and not as affordable and invoative as the Wii. Any killer app Microsoft comes up with can be pushed onto the PS3 as well. On top of that, both the PS3 and the Xbox360 do not bring anything new to the table. Although the games look better they have not been intorducing anything fundementally new. As such it is becoming more and more difficult to create that one hit game. Microsoft is also still having problems with the Japaneese market. There is no way that then can push ahead of Sony without a significant presence in the second larget Video game market.
You cant make out the add from ground level. The only way you would find it is to look at an overhead photo of it. If companies actually start launching adds into space you have something to protest about.
IBM SOnt and Toshiba Co-designed the Cell processor. IBM for its part is already getting good use out of it in thier supercomputing ventures.

I have alwys thought that sony got screwed with the cell. It was clearly designed for supercomputing tasks in mind which is why it has such high performance but such poor branch prediction. Sony could ahve gotten a faster processor for less money by going with a more conventional architecture but, as usual, they are trying to reinvent the wheel.
From the video it seems he is "playing" only the most basic cords. Hes explanation of the shirt seems to indicate that the motion detected is only the most rudimentary. The cord select is based on the angle of one arm and the actual playing is based on the movement of the other arm. The positions of the arm (angle of the shoulder) doesn't matter because there is only a sensor in the elbow. Overall this seems to be more of a software experiment then anything else.
A more interesting system might have electrodes in the sleeves to detect muscle movement. Through signal processing it may be possible to actually determine the movements of the wrist and fingers.
If this were true then there would be far fewer good shipped by truck. Busnesses do not spend money on trucks because they think it is more fun then the railroad.
Some people are willing to pay those prices but not many. There have been a total of only 70 million ipods sold and the average selling price was well below $500. Very few people own $500 phones and those that do usualy have thier phone purchase subsidized. There are a group of people who will pay $600 for a PS3 and they tend to be the same group of people who will pay $500 for a phone or ipod but the majority of people who own a PS2 will not be willing to pay $600 for a PS3
You have to remeber that the exchange rate today does not equal the exchange rate when the PS2 was released.
When the PS2 was released in 2000 it coast 299 GBP and the exchange rate was 1.4:1
This would put the PS2 price at $418 USD.
You also have to remember that 299GBP incuded VAT and the $299 USD price does not include sales tax.
Common Carrier Status is not something that you can simply give up. It is not a right. Common carrier is a legal clasification given to those companies that were awarded federal funds in order to build private networks. In exchange for these federal funds, they are forced to provide universal coverage. Because they are forced to provide universal coverage they are also protected from having to police content on thier network. This is not an optional agreement and they can not forfeit thier status. It would take nothing short a bill reclassifing Verizon to do that.
You can get a basic guild to building an atomic bomb from your local library. Its really not that hard. The hard part of an atomic bomb is enriching the fissable material.
PS. Google also does not need to serve your requests in real time. There is no difference between giving your results in 100ms or 10 seconds. WoW must constantly serve requests in 300 ms.
"Wii, PS3 Sell Big In First Week" How exactly is this anti Sony? I'm sorry the truth hurts so bad.

He has admitted to selling 6m Yen but is suspected for selling over 150m Yen. Poor job on the write up.

Then every country "censors" the internet. If you dont believe me make a child porn website and see where that gets you.
