True. Having a kernel update does require a restart.
But, for people who don't realize this, that's the only time you ever have to reboot. So once Hardy Final comes out, if you want to install Linux and need a restricted driver, just install, boot up for the first time, do all of your updates, and reboot once. That's probably the last time you'll need to reboot for 3 years...the support life of Hardy Heron.
I'm calling bullshit on this one. Did you actually INSTALL? Or just run the LiveCD?
Ubuntu (and Linux) has vastly upgraded it's proprietary hardware drivers that are available. Unfortunately, you need to install them into the kernel, which requires a reboot. Never since pre-Feisty days have I had a problem with WiFi...it's just a matter of installing, updating and installing the restricted drivers over an ethernet cable, and rebooting.
Heck, even Broadcom is integrated into the kernel that's shipping with Hardy (2.6.24).
I used deluge when I started using Ubuntu (had Ktorrent under Kubuntu for a few months before I switched to Gnome). I absolutely *hated* the bittorrent that came with Ubuntu Feisty and Gutsy. Deluge was really nice.
On Hardy, though, I'm a big fan of Transmission, the new default bittorrent client. Small, light, fast...very similar to uTorrent. It does everything a basic user like me needs without the clutter of something like Ktorrent or Azureus. (not that the clutter is bad, just not what *I* want.)
Hey...I really liked MS Bob. Lots of fun for a 7th grader to play around in without screwing up the whole computer. Although I did get in trouble for nearly signing us up for $20/month "Bob Email" service. That's right...no Internet, just email.
I doubt they are the same. These glasses and movies will most likely be very similar to the 3D movies/rides at Walt Disney World. I can easily move around in your seat without getting sick, whereas the Red/Blue glasses make me dizzy. The glasses and movies at Disney are absolutely top notch...if you ever go you have to see Mickey's Philharmagic Orchestra, It's Tough to Be a Bug, etc.
Site5.com offers very simple domain registration if you already have their hosting service. The registration is $8.88/yr, and the hosting is cheap and EXTREMELY fast and reliable.
You don't know how true this is. When I visit the Online Banking section of my local bank's website, using Firefox 2 or 3 in Ubuntu, I get an error saying that I need to upgrade to an up-to-date browser and Operating System, such as IE 6, Firefox 1.5, or Netscape in Windows, OR Safari 1.x, Netscape, or IE 5 on Mac. This is retarded, and I've contacted them several times about it....
Oh, wow! I just went to their website and it works now! Looks like they took out the stupid javascript that was checking the OS. Well, I guess the above isn't true anymore, but I'm sure some banks still check...
The key is that you can DO every THING in Linux that you can do in Windows. People say "But I can't play Halo 18, or run Office 2020, or Photoshop CS 12!" Yes, this is true, but you CAN play FPS (and other) games, and you CAN edit photos, and you can read and write office documents.
It may be different, but I still have yet to find something that photoshop or msoffice can do that can't be accomplished with GIMP or OOo. Especially with GIMP extensions...one of the big ones being CMYK support which is available with http://cue.yellowmagic.info/softwares/separate.html
That comment is out of date. I downloaded that extension and it works just fine for me (AFAICT) in the version of OOo that came with Ubuntu Gutsy Beta.
"Inadequate" is probably a better term. Newtonian physics are indeed correct for certain instances and areas and perspectives that are "normal" for earth, but they start to break down as we approach C. Given that, per slashdot last summer, our galaxy could be accelerating faster than others as we careen toward a massive black hole, our velocity could indeed eventually approach the speed of light, and newtonian physics would begin to break down, at least from a frame of reference larger than that of the earth.
I just wish that Apple would see that helping Linux would also help Apple. Breaking MS's dominance is the most important goal and Linux can help that to happen.
A mod point! A mod point! My computers for a mod point!
This is an amazing sentence. Somebody who works for Apple, please get Steve to see this, PLEASE! I've never thought of it that way, and it is SO true. Apple will continue to play second fiddle to MS for as long as people don't realize that there is something else out there other than Windows...or really, for as long as people don't even know what Windows is. You have no IDEA how many calls I get each day with a user complaining about how their "Microsoft isn't working!", not knowing the difference between Windows XP and Office, or not knowing what a web browser is ("oh, you mean my internet?").
His name is Rover. You would know that if you ever used MS Bob. Man I miss Bob. I added that to my startup menu an did EVERYTHING through it...it was like a second OS! I had 1 of every type of room, complete with custom doors to get to ALL of them if I so chose, and hidden passages covered by dragons, and safes covered by calendars. Boy those were good times!:-D And it had an awesome calendar, database, and checkbook. I learned SOOO much using GeoSafari, too!
Time to break out the 133 pentium with windows 95 again...
Thanks for reminding me of that. Remind Google, too. Send them a letter and let them know what you think of censorship. You all can use mine, if you wish:

To whom it may concern:
I have been a faithful user of Google for several years now. I'm proud to support a company that offers great products (search, email, calendars, photo management, videos, etc.) while remaining consumer friendly. I especially appreciate Google's efforts to "not be evil" when asked by the U.S. Government to hand over searches performed by Google's users.
It is for these reasons that I daily attempt to switch people from less consumer friendly web services like Yahoo or AOL. I warn friends and family that Yahoo has given information to the Chinese government that was used to imprison at least three Chinese journalists (Shi Tao, Li Zhi, and Jiang Lijun), while AOL released to the public every search term made on their site as well as a personally identifiable user number. Thank you, Google, for standing up for free speech and user rights.
I am, however, quite disappointed in Google today. This morning, when I logged in to my Google Homepage, I was greeted by a story on Slashdot discussing the recent YouTube banning of Egyptian blogger and free speech/anti-torture activist Wael Abbas. I realize that Abbas's videos demonstrating police brutality and torture may have been somewhat graphic and against YouTube's Terms of Service, but American users regularly post videos of people being TASERed or getting in fights. If something is indeed graphic, it is normally tagged as "mature" and still allowed to remain on YouTube.
So I ask you, Google, why are you suddenly censoring videos that were used to fight police brutality? What happened to your motto "Don't Be Evil"? Why do you stand up for the rights of Americans, yet censor free speech in other countries?
Thank you for your time. I eagerly await your response (email is fine).
Even for a registered user like myself this is difficult. I never got around to editing much, but when I did I'd get a notice criticizing my edit for putting periods and commas "inside quotation marks," as opposed to "outside". It seems like the other editors just disregarded the fact that I corrected some major grammatical flaws. I soon stopped making edits while logged in and just waited on other people to fix most problems.:(
(By the way, in US english, commas and periods should ALWAYS go inside the quotes.)
GetDeb is great...I use it all the time. Also, a lot of projects now offer.deb's or even repositories to keep you up-to-date. Miro, Wine, and Google's Picasa and Earth are just a few applications that come to mind.

No, seriously. Does the Zune work on Linux, and will it work now that it's cracked?
True. Having a kernel update does require a restart.
