our sys admin handles our debian boxes which run php/mysql/various versions of coldfusion, and even the gentoo box that the previous sys admin (idiot) set up as our DNS server without paying for any support licences...
there's a helluva lot of 'nix software that doesn't reach it to Windows... and "hunting" for it on google is such a time waster when all I need do is "apt-get install $app"

if debian is breaking you are doing it wrong, it's arguably the most stable linux distro around. if you are worried about stability take the universe and multiverse repos out your apt sources.lst
