nowadays the president probably wouldn't have to make that decision. the people on the plane far outnumber the terrorists and would likely mob-rush them to prevent another sep 11... which is exactly why terrorists won't do that shit again and all these draconian measures are pointless.
and then all the conservatives could go after cereal makers for encouraging canabilism in the same way they now go after video games for encouraging violence
why would a good sys admin need the support?
our sys admin handles our debian boxes which run php/mysql/various versions of coldfusion, and even the gentoo box that the previous sys admin (idiot) set up as our DNS server without paying for any support licences...
there's a helluva lot of 'nix software that doesn't reach it to Windows... and "hunting" for it on google is such a time waster when all I need do is "apt-get install $app"
Highly unlikely, they don't really care that much if you read a few external websites and get around their firewall
if however you start a blog and start inciting dissent, badmouthing the chinese govt... then they may have something to say to you.

the car analogy is a bad one, a turboed, bored and tuned 4 banger can outperform a v8, especially around corners, ever pitted an exige against a dodge viper on a twisty track?
when you install the qt-gtk-library and tell gtk apps to use qt themes theres a button you click to fix the scrollbar bug in FF/T-bird... worked for me.
the judicial system is finally recognising that the MAFIIA is making a mockery of the courts, while there have been isolated incodents of common sense in the courtroom this is a big win because now multiple judges are sitting down to look at the issue. It took them long enough.
