.40 S&W was invented because.45 ACP already existed.
I guess you're trying to make some point but.40 S&W was invented because 10mm was perceived as too heavy.
The 1986 FBI Miami shooting shooting taught the police that they need a heavy caliber (compared to.38) and a lot of rounds. It lead to the 10mm and.40 S&W. The North Hollywood shooting gave an indication that having a rifle was also a good idea..45 ACP is too big: large grips and few rounds per standard magazine.
The problem wasn't the (lack of) quality of VB or the popularity by its users. VB made Microsoft look bad and made it harder to attract new developers. C# was only partially an answer to things wrong with VB, perceptions from people other than VB programmers mattered a lot more.
Late '90s software development for Windows sucked. And Windows sucked because it crashed for the slightest of reasons. And there was Visual Basic. And there was the latest hype in town: Java. Roll in.Net with C# and Visual Studio. Pretty neat and fairly idiot-proof IDE, decent set of libraries, managed execution to lower the amount of BSOD's and introduce a new language to extinguish both VB and Java.
None of these reasons was relevant outside the MS world. Plenty of languages, IDE's, editors available on Linux, some say even too many. No BSOD's, no VB. Oh wait, there's one reason: that wanker Miguel de Icaza.
The only thing that makes sense is to realize that digital content is so fundamentally different from analog that silly notions like "intellectual property" are unattainable. Bytes don't work like original works of art.
Let them have nukes. With Russia, Pakistan, North Korea and Israel having the capability, I don't see how things can get worse. It's simply something that appeals to weird people, especially of the religious kind.
... and yet we now spend 50% of our total budget on health, education, or entitlements. And yet we still have poor people....
Health and education are where most rich nations spending goes to. It has nothing to do with leveling the wealth, more likely 'the rich' profit most of those communal spending.
Octopodes sounds incredibly stupid, because I can't think of another word in the English language which is pluralized with "podes" -- which makes it such an extreme outlier as to be doubtful.
I get so tired from the BBC for having videos with plenty of warning upfront about their potential shocking nature and in the end cutting the video off/pixelating everything when the real content arrives.

GPL is anti-developer
Nope. I'm a developer and quite often think the GPL is the best solution. It helps if you're a developer and user of the program.
I have ~/.macromedia soft linked to /tmp. Works because I switch my pc off basically every day.
... flock of starlings ...
Is called a "murmuration".
In the Netherlands, I didn't really need certification. Now in Chile, it's a must.

Play check.

I've G+, Gmail and a YT account but can't comment on YT. I blame adblockers, noscript and a hosts file.
"whoosh"
I had a record by him, in the '60s he was a singer too.
I can. It's a butt ugly standard dropdown box but it works.

He copy pasted the first paragraph from tfa in tfs. Windows is immediately mentioned in the 2nd paragraph but do you really need it in tfs?
Driving towards the equator is all uphill.
Remember the 'world wide' part in WWW.
I always loved the sound of "Pluto" at the end of the list of planets.
Why stop human evolution?
Because sometimes alpha is better than beta.

What if the other brane also has a reactor shield in the same spot?
Don't worry, it's branes all the way down.

One thing is 'legacy' projects and distro's wanting to support them.
Asterisks are intended for the pure of heart who don't want to defile their pretty fingers typing "bad words".
