There isn't firewire support compiled into the kernel. If you want to connect an iPod or use any other firewire devices you have to recompile the kernel. That is a really stupid omission especially when it was reported in bugzilla during test 2!

From what I remember, not only was Firewire unstable in time for release, but was causing instability even for people without Firewire. I'd rather they held off on including it until it is stable rather than risk data loss by including it prematurely.

So that's where my old laptop went... But seriously, I owned that exact same model of ThinkPad and had little trouble with PCMCIA devices from RedHat 5.2 to 9 - when I sold it. What card are you having trouble with?

The winmodem isn't ever likely to work and I never bothered with the S-video port. But the only trouble my 390E ever gave me was some flakiness with a model of 3Com Ethernet card I've long since forgotten. It turns out that the default Windows 98 installation was even worse, as I found out when I reinstalled it prior to sale.

You can't check the md5sums of the ISOs until the entire bittorrent download is complete. Bittorrent makes no guarantee that all of ISO 1 is finished downloading before you start getting ISO 2. Of the three adult anime features I listed in my reply to the parent post, only one ("Metropolis") is really intended for a teen audience. The other two would probably be perceived as rather dull by most pre-college teens.

"Grave of the Fireflies" was meant for young teens and preteens as an educational sort of film. That's why it was originally shown as a double feature with "Totoro". Ultimately, there's a lot of anime that adults can enjoy, but hardly any that's specifically made for adults.

Most of the supposed "adult" anime really is aimed at teens. Especially the hyperviolent stuff. But the really popular, non-fringe anime doesn't have those elements and is meant to appeal to kids and adults alike - just like Pixar. This includes Ghibli films and long-running shows that air during "family hour" like Inu-Yasha.

The DS's backwards-compatibility with the GB, GBC and GBA gives it a big library right from the start (the same reason the PS2 garnered such fast adoption) and it's all but assured to cost less and have longer battery life than the PSP.
