Some ISPs list what their policies are on the details of the packages. The cheap policies normally list 10, 20, or 40GB transfer limits. The more expensive ones normally state that it's unlimited but a 'fair usage policy' applies but don't list what this policy is, meaning they can just throttle whenever they like.

I just recently moved from Australia to the UK and that's one of the interesting things I noticed. In the UK you pay for the speed of your connection rather than how much you can download. ... You can download as much as you want.

You must be new here. They all advertise that it's 'unlimited' but then massively throttle how much you download if you go over their secret hidden limits.

Make yourself visible. The majority of managers don't see the guy that sits in the corner and makes beautiful code, but the guy sweating and working they think is working his butt off.

Again, this is one of those pieces of advice that applies differently in different places. I didn't do an internship, but a lot of people here did. I'm one of those who sat in the corner writing beautiful code rather than making a big song-and-dance about what they were doing. When it came to put all the software components through acceptance testing, it was noticed that my component was the only one that went through testing first time with only a couple of minor fixes to be made - every other component failed with major problems. Doing your job well may not get you noticed as quickly as making a fuss about it all the time, but you will get noticed at some point and it will be far better than trying to sell yourself at every step of the way - especially if you're an intern (who they don't expect to come out with great results).

The booster was supposed to fall into a tumble to increase drag so that it wouldn't hit the upper stage simulator (which it may have done anyway). It had rocket motors attached at the base to perform this manoeuvre and you can see these firing at separation. The upper stage simulator (USS) was unguided and little more than a lump of metal to act as the mass of the real upper stage. As such, it's not surprising that it would fall into a tumble after separation, but it seemed to do more-so than people were expecting. This is not a problem as the USS had no parachutes and landed and sank (as intended) in the Atlantic.

The windows media streams are about 1-2 minutes behind the live events. RM stream is about 10-15 seconds behind live events. If you're getting problems with the higher bandwidth streams, then it may be because of bandwidth issues, either at your end or because there are so many people subscribed to the feed. This has happened before (LCROSS) and I've had old versions of VLC appear to lock up if the stream drops packets (I don't know which version of VLC you are using)

Yahoo (provider of the feeds) does not bother to update their metadata and just leaves it on "Nasa Space Shuttle Launch" the entire time.
