No that's not what they are assuming, necessarily. While you're jumping to the conclusion that the answer must be one of *either* "they're not being hired because they're different" or "they're not being hired because they're genetically inferior" you're forgetting about the very real socioeconomic issues at hand. The very very real fact of the matter is that a few decades ago FAR more WHITE Americans had spare income with which to fund a home computer their children could learn from than any other American demographic. This has absolutely nothing to do with racial aptitude, just historical availability of resources.
This is probably not the case anymore but in many regions around America the *very* real fact is that access to such home computing at a young age made many people far more employable today than they would have been just left with public schools as their only learning outlet. This doesn't mean any one race is inferior or superior in any specific way it just means that the public schools have failed utterly to level the playing field and we need to fix that.
Oh maybe I am. I think a lot of people are like me though and believe that when they hear "equal opportunity employment" and "affirmative action" that they're just different badges on the same crap.
No, I would not. I am with you that sounds like total rubbish if you know even a little about the target demographic. I might write a threatening letter to said jackass and post it on Slashdot, but I would most certainly never bother getting off my couch to do such a thing.
If I had mod points I would mod you up. Equal opportunity is flawed because it is based on a flawed assumption of equal aptitude. If you think about it just a little you'll realize how applying this at a business level instead of immediately at kindergarten level is doomed to do more harm than good.
Pretty much every time flash opens something it seems to instantly demand 4GB of RAM......I'm not sure how much of that Flash at fault or just undisciplined authoring.
It's not a total waste of time. All this technology we spend so much money on has a strong tendency (as you seem to have clearly noticed) to be largely frivolous. At times when it proves to also have practical value it is good to point it out because maybe it will help future developments to be less frivolous.
Knoppix is great for this purpose too. Granted it's a full-sized CD iso so it will be a long download, but it's also worth the download so that you can keep a copy around for emergencies. Like the Ubuntu LiveCD it's also a fully-featured desktop suite (KDE by default unlike Ubuntu but also very similar to Windows) because it is loaded with drivers and useful utilities.
That's very true however FWIW I read somewhere that Newton had claimed he'd gained many of his initial insights about physics and mathematics while in process of re-translating the bible to English. Only having read a couple recent popular English translations myself, it seems a bit strange as a source for that type of inspiration but I'd also read that he was not the only huge figure in science that claimed this.
I think maybe it is possible that there are times in human history when in certain societies being extremely religious may have actually been an enlightening pursuit... perhaps one of the only few available. Keep in mind there wasn't a lot of funding of public libraries or schools or even literature going on outside the walls of the church back then.
This window manager may be old fashioned but it still has by far the most flexible as well as responsive virtual desktop to be found in modern software, period.
Isn't the brain essentially an electrical logic system that like any other example of such systems we have (computers) certain frequencies of e-m radiation can interfere with it's basic operation at the right power levels and proximity and such?
I don't know much about it but it sounds possible. It also doesn't sound like it'd quite fall under the category of allergies. It also sounds far more likely to be an excuse to sue a neighbor you don't like than it is to be actually happening to this guy.
Lol@ it being a decade later and Marathon still comes up number 3 on the list of "games available for Mac"
Kudos to them for open sourcing it though...
Seriously tell me you didn't already know.
Reading crap like this.
I don't mind steam except for the fact I still can't reliably play left4dead for more than 5 minutes without being kicked erroneously.

I think it was an episode of 24. I agree. Citation needed.
Damn where can I get some of that? Looks like good stuff.

OH! Apparently my sarcasm meter was broken. Thanks.

*cough* you forgot to post anonymously *cough*

... but it was a good try.

Yep, sounds awesome. Someone needs to manufacture a drug that mixes this effect with that of MDMA and we'll have ourselves a winner!
Liar it sucks twice as much and you know it.
apt-get install e16

You're naive. Radio waves don't burn your skin because they go right through it to burn your DNA instead.

Yes with the highest degree being called "terminal" and they forcibly retrieve the product then shoot you in the head.
VC funding doesn't count.
