  2. Documentation is very lacking on Is Linux Documentation Lacking? · · Score: 5, Insightful

As a linux user since 1995, I have found the documentation to be little more than it was around 2000. It's easier to do a google search than try to find an answer in a man page. Not only that, the man page rarely has useful examples, one of the biggest problems.

If it's a Linux based fighter it will never crash, fly well, but be missing key features like a fuel guage and gun sites. Oh, and there will be no stick to control the plane, but you will have a command line and scriptable flight controls.

Old programmers never go away, they just polymorph into a human. By the time that a programmer is 40 they won't be living at home anymore with their parents, they'll have a wife and maybe kids for at least 3 years! They tend to leave corporate wherever to become either management, or a craftsman. I'm planning on leaving by the age of 40 (10 years) to become a woodworker. And yes, I'll have been married for more than 3 years :). Many of us get sick of politics in the company and want a simpler life, ie, I plan on living in the mountains of Montana, Wyoming or Colorado.

I completed the book the other night and it was pretty good. It ties up all of the loose ends that I could think of. Yes there is some pop culture, and yes Jar-Jar is there albeit briefly. Have fun, enjoy the movies, think of yourself as 5 again, and not as a critical 30 year old, and the movies will be much better.

But again, the book was worth reading and talks about a lot of interesting topics that can't be covered withing the confining medium of cinema.

The reasons for leasing are twofold.

As everyone here has said it's due to taxes. I also believe (but I'm not an accountant) but the leases don't appear as capitol purchases.

Secondly equipment can be kept somewhat up to date by replacing old with new. We all now technology changes at a rapid pace, and this allows the company to keep up.

I agree with you that Erector sets kick butt. I used to play with the set my Dad had as a kid. There are way to many cool things you can do with it, and agreeably it does teach mechanical engineering much better than Legos. I heard starting last year they were going to be available in the US again.

  18. Legos on Classic Toys For Christmas? · · Score: 5, Insightful

You have to love Legos. Not only are they fun, but they teach creativity, mechanical engineering, and design. If you are playing with someone else, they teach teamwork and sharing. Not to mention you can build some cool guns and spaceships.

On this topic, I'm not a big fan of the premade Lego sets for Star Wars or Harry Potter or whatever. Kids need the generic box of bricks and plates.
