When pressed as to why broadcasters would want to do this, Burger replied simply 'because they want you to pay for that right'."
Have no problem with this as long as the broadcasters pay performance rights...now...until the end of time & retroactively. 80 years of not paying their fair share with interest seems to be a fair method to take care of this.
Wonder if the broadcasters are as interested in this idea as much as they enjoy cornholing their current & increasingly former listeners.
Sounds like a good move to me. After all, if it's a ClearChannel station, it must not be worth listening to.
After all this garbage...I've gotten to the point where I only listen to non-US stations. Not only do I get out of my comfort zone...get to hear what others are hearing out the country & don't have to worry about this DRM BS.
Plus...music is music...so the same songs I would hear in the US...if a station were to play them at all...sounds the same. The same formats we used to listen to years ago are still being used outside the US.
I don't feel bad because I've already paid for all of these 'illegal' codecs over and over again. I've bought numerous DVD players, computer DVD drives, video cards which decode mpeg*, a hardware WMV/AVI/DIVX/MPEG* player, an ATSC tv (mpeg again), dvd software packages (windvd, et. al.), computers with Windows (and the licenses for many of their codecs), and more.
This is the kicker that most people don't understand & the companies in question will never allow you to even mention. As long as you have a valid Windows license (came with your PC/bought it shrink-wrapped/given to you by the vendor)...you have a valid license for the use of those codecs & such.
Never bothered me...especially since having worked in enterprises where licensing issues are an everyday occurrence. Just because a company or person says I can't do something...doesn't mean they are right. If this were the case...my VCR...PVR...CD-ROM drives would be illegal...since according to the RIAA/MPAA...they're all used or can be used to "steal" from them. I can read & can understand what my rights are...no matter what lies & deceptions these people/companies perpetuate.
Don't even get me started on the "its getting its full run in England before its on in America" thing.
Have to agree with you on this one. I was SHOCKED when I tuned into Dr. Who the other night to see Sci-Fi running the just completed season of Dr. Who. Was actually expecting to see the last 2 seasons with Billy Piper...which is what I'm seeing on BBC America.
At least 1 good thing about Sci-Fi...only had to wait about 15 weeks...rather than 1-2 years to see what those in the UK had all ready seen. Now...if only BBC America would do the same thing.
Been using Virgin for about 4 years. In addition to what everyone has mentioned...they are the only provider I have seen which allows you to get "free" minutes by watching about 5 minutes of commercials a day for 5 minutes worth of airtime. This is in addition to whatever plan you sign up for...$20 every 3 months or the monthly fee. Plus...they have various value cards for their phones you can buy at many stores & outlets to keep from using PayPal or giving them your credit card. It's your choice.
The only drawback to them in the US is the Sprint network. If you travel on the main interstate highways...as well as cities where Sprint has a network presence...you will have service. Outside areas like this...go with some other provider. You will have no service and waste your money.
Another issue you will run into is battery life on their phones. With their lowest cost phones at $20...less if you find them on sale...it is cheaper to buy a new phone...rather than spend at least twice as much on a new battery for your old phone.
So when you're watching a 1080i source on a 1080p television you are actually effectively seeing 1080p 30frames per second instead of 1080p 60frames per second. You will not see a single bit of difference because the content is 24fps to begin with.
Sounds like the $15 5 inch portable I bought at an outlet mall for my camping trips won't allow me to realize the true 1080i/p experience that Sony & others are hoping for. No stereo output...no digital surround 5.1/7.1 hookups & a black & white screen means that Sony & others need to up their standards for those like me.
Am VERY disappointed in their decisions...since I'm the type of discriminating customer they were hoping for for their products!!!;)
The official name of the 64 bit product is Windows XP Professional x64 Edition.
That name is not listed on the iPhone page, don't expect it to be supported.
Of course...there is an easy answer around this. Download VMware Player (get the setup files over at http://www.easyvmx.com/) or the demo of VMware Workstation...install the 32-bit version of XP into the software & keep the image on the hard drive in case you need it.
Except of course for the 45 Million Americans who cannot afford it and have no insurance.
You forgot to mention the situation that even when you can afford the insurance...there are people who can not get insurance...except for that from the job. For instance...if you're 1 pound over the limit in their weight chart or have a pre-existing condition...no amount of money will buy a policy.
I wish that Senator Kennedy moved to California...then he'd get back in touch with reality and would stop his ignorant rhetoric about "Gestapo tactics" and whatnot.
You really want this "senator" driving or flying across any body of water with any woman in close proximity??? 1969 was more than enough proof he can't drive onto a bridge or near a body of water.
Seriously...he has no idea what reality is. Just like bush jr...he's had his family & their ties get him out of any jam he's ever gotten into. He's never had to live in the real world...get a job or take responsibility for anything. Why should now be any change for him??? Cheating in school...pappa joe took care of it...drowning a companion...pappa joe took care of it. bush jr...failure in business...daddy george contacted people with money to bail him out. Can't stay in the Air Force & caught several states away...daddy george took care of it.
Goes to show that either have never had to worry about anything & it shows in the way they do what they got elected to.
I have more faith in paris hilton doing a better job than either one of these.
If passed, the bill would have effectively turned the Real ID system into a National ID card. I was under the impression that the Real ID system all by itself was intended as a de facto national ID card. What am I missing?
I have to ask myself the same question...especially since the US passport I got 3 years ago can also be used any place ID is needed. That being the case that this document is a federal document from the Dept of State showing this & other countries who I am...does that not qualify as a national/international ID???
As far as I know...they've been around for quite a long time & nobody's cried about it being a national ID. What's the difference between this "Real ID" & my passport...except for the cost & not coming from the majesties at homeland insecurity???
I want to hear from a single guy in this forum/site, who can take this "teleportation might use quantum dots" information and make some use of it.
If these particles can actually travel faster than the speed of light...does that mean they may be from "another dimension in another 'time'" where our physical laws don't apply or being sent by other scientists doing the same experiment only in reverse from this other "place"???
Will we have billions of 1701D's appearing all over the place if this were true or my "evil" twin from this other place come & tell me how rich & powerful he or she is as the galactic overlord??? If it's a she...will she look like a stripper with the mind of Einstein & the talents of Buckaroo Bonzai to become the overlord???
There is a reason Fidel sought help from outside Cuba.
Something that he didn't mention which he should have is how Cuba offered to send doctors & such to New Orleans during the Katrina debacle. Of course...since Miami's Cuban community would've thrown a fit...Bush & Homeland Security brushed them off. Just because Castro drove out the mob & those with the power & abusing the common person...does not mean he did a bad thing. Castro helped bring justice to a people who had never had it. Don't get me wrong...I fully understand what happens in Communist countries. Not endorsing that regime...just the results in the social climate for those who had always been poor & abused by those in power.
It was pretty angry after seeing how profit/money driven our system is. I may not agree with much of what Canada and France do but they have the right idea when it comes to medical care.
I have to agree as well. The thing about this movie which upset me the most were the insurance/medical/pharmacy companies letting/hoping/helping people get worse or die with no conscience. After this movie...I don't feel sorry for any insurance company/hospital/doctors being sued for mistakes or even being jerks. Just because someone sees greed as being a positive motivation to screw others as much as you can get away with does not mean that you will get away with your behavior. Am a firm believer in karma. Have seen it work so many times.
while we have many ideas; they get shot down left and right.
I remember seeing that episode of "Enterprise" on Sci-Fi recently where the inventor of the transporter comes on board with a story of making the device go across the galaxy. He ends up wanting to get his son back...with the son dying at the end of it. The gentleman makes a statement of when the device came out & everyone was postulating about it not being the real you when you materialize or you lose your soul. I see the same thing happening with this topic. You have those in control & making the decisions believing that the earth/universe is only 6000 years old...as well as there is no such thing as global warming or an impending ice age coming. No matter how much evidence you present for logically making a decision...people will refuse to believe it & will turn their god (not God) on you for challenging the believe structure they know as right. For instance...that idiot who opened that creationist museum is in the middle of a lawsuit concerning the organization he started in Australia for "creation science".
With the way the human race is...let us kill ourselves out of existence. It's only a matter of time...with the method all ready known & usable. Just look at the saber rattling of the neo-cons with wanting to drop nukes on Iran. How you have leaders believing & more than willing to implement this is beyond even my limited intelligence.
With humans out of the way...some other species can come along & hopefully do a much better job than we would ever hope to do.
Once you are satisfied the contamination is removed, put it in a clean dish cloth, slingshot style, and twirl it at as high a rate of speed as you can produce using centrifugal force to get as much water out as you possibly can.
Have also read if you put a cell or something like this into a container of rice (Uncle Ben's or cheap store brand)...will also help dry it out quickly. They say the reason is that the rice will absorb the moisture.
the legislation would also extend broadcast indecency standards to cable and satellite TV for the first time: 'In accordance with the indecency and profanity policies and standards applied by the [FCC] to broadcasters, as such policies and standards are modified from time to time, not transmit any material that is indecent or profane on any channel in the expanded basic tier of such distributor except between 10pm and 6am.'
I thought this BS was over...especially since if you teach the parents how to operate their remote by showing them how to turn off the TV or switch the channel when they find something "objectionable"...there would be no need of this legislation. As a buddy of mine who used to work at a cable company in the bible noose used to tell people (hate using this term in such a loose way) who would call in to complain about the Playboy Channel...either you're paying extra for it or else you're stealing it...which one is it??? On the other hand...if it bothers you that much...you have 3 options: 1. Don't subscribe...2. You have a channel tuner...learn what it is & use it...3. Turn off your TV by flipping the switch or unplugging it from the wall.
Those with the little minds would get so mad they would hang up & call his boss (who would just laugh at them even harder & tell them that unless they were a subscriber to the programming...he needed to get some work done) or keep on complaining. By going into a tirade during the overnight shift he worked...for some reason...the phone would disconnect & stay disconnect for long enough for him to go run some errands for his job.
My point is that if this type of programming that you allow to be in your home bothers you this much...you can either not watch it...watch it while doing strange things to yourself while wearing your Victoria Secret's or not subscribe to it in the first place. I'm not at your house holding your eyes open & pointing a gun at you to watch it...so STFU about someone else other than yourself corrupting your children!!!
Even if they were able to pay them more (which they aren't), you aren't going to get good people who know what they are doing to sit on a phone all day every day dealing with angry/frustrated customers. No one ever calls tech support to tell them how happy they are with their purchase. I was a tech for a year, and it was horrible. You only get angry/upset people talking to you...
Did work for a major PC company in the US for 2 years (1.5 of that in email support...rest on phones)...taking hotel reservations for a casino in Nevada & doing cold calling for insurance leads. You wonder what all these have in common??? Working almost as a slave for almost no money...dealing with people I wouldn't execute on my worst days & having a manager telling you that your numbers suck with a phone in one ear & them in your other.
Got bad enough at the casino job that I was called into a meeting & told my "attitude" was not conducive for good customer service. After 1/2 hour of being on the clock & taking this BS for the whole time from 2 managers doing the "round robin" treatment...was handed the write up. As they continued barking up their tree...I wrote the following: This is my 2 week notice & even though this is the only thing you can find to get onto me about...you can go F*** Yourselves (underlined as I tore the paper)...especially since I'm the only employee who shows up for their shift & agrees to help you out by working extra shifts when others decide not to show up. Have a nice day...I am going to be counting down the moments until I leave here. Yours truly... Funny thing...gave me a 50 cent raise to $7.50 an hour & said they wanted me to come back if my plans don't work out. The funniest part about it is that I had fellow employees shaking my hand on the way out & wishing me well. Ended up living off my savings while waiting for my next job to open up paying twice the amount of money for working 6 hours a day...with plenty of vacation time. No paid benefits...but do enjoy the time off.
most of the problems can be resolved by following a script.
Or even by doing some SIMPLE reading in websites or in chat rooms. Have found out that the more that these type of people spend over $1.00...the more entitled they feel. Another suggestion I had was to get someone to write up the scripts in book form & email it to the customer.
Used to work as a PC tech years ago & people used to wonder what happens when the power went out to whatever they were working on at the time. Stifling back my laughter...I would then ask them what happens to their TV. To this...I would tell them the same thing. To further illustrate the example...would hold up a power cord & tell them that the attention span of their PC was as long as the power cord being plugged into a wall socket.
Simple solution...they don't pay their bills...they lose their power.
Why should those who choose to pursue alternative fuel sources automatically get an out on paying for the roads they are going to be driving on with that alternative fuel?
Am going to be buying a scooter sometime this year to save on gas. With about every model getting 60-110 MPG...does that mean that with a 1.5-2 gallon tank...should the government rape me more??? Since my vehicle gets great mileage...having to fill up with about $4-5 every week or so...rather than the $40-100 people in their cars/SUV's...does that mean because I get more use of the road at lesser cost than others...I should pay the government for the costs they are not getting from me? What if more & more people start using these vehicles...rather than the gas guzzlers the government is used to people driving & pay fuel taxes on? How about those of us who live along state lines...which or both states should I be responsible for? How about if one state does start doing this & I buy my fuel in another state which does not rape me in these taxes???
The BBC should sell their licenses abroad and make a way for those licenses to enable the buyers to download and watch BBC shows
Living in the US...I would certainly pay a license fee to be able to watch Dr. Who & other series the same day or week of broadcast in either streaming mode or download it. While BBC America is nice & can see some of the shows you will see...we have to wait at least a year or more to watch it. (I know those of you overseas are crying a stream about this...since that's normal for you for US TV.)
If this would not be possible...I wish the US satellite providers would offer the BBC stations on a subscription basis...just like they do for HBO & other "premium" offerings.
Eve was naked until she ate from the tree of knowledge, at which point she made herself a skirt with leaves.
Noticed that they don't show either of them nude. If they're that concerned about nude beings...why not cover up the animals as well??? Wonder what happens when a person with tendencies toward beastility tours this facility?
They fail at bible accuracy, in a frikkin bible museum!
According to the "intelligent" people who believe this "information"...this isn't a bible museum...but a scientific museum for those with a literal interpretation of the bible.
Even though I believe in the Bible...I don't go off the deep end like these "intelligent" people. The one thing which bothers me about places & people like this...they only talk about the "nice" parts of their book...rather than seeing the whole picture of the Old Testament together. For instance...what about all of the bloodshed & not so nice things mentioned.
Literally interpreting their bible is like literally interpreting Stephen King or HP Lovecraft.
But remember that it was Apple that got a law put through the Congress about importing any foreign bought Apples...due to the massive cost difference at the time. Kept a lot of people (military & such) from outside the US from importing the Apples they bought for several hundred dollars less overseas.
If I remember right...this allowed Commodore/Timex/Atari to get a foothold in the US...especially since there was no way I or anyone I know could get our hands on an Apple at twice or more the cost of either of these three systems in the early 1980's...except for the college computer lab.
Loved playing Acid Trip/Star Wars/Castle Wolfenstein/Integer Trek on the Apple ]['s in the lab with the composite Apple monitor with 2 floppy drives. The 5.25 360K floppies cost $1.05 each at the campus bookstore. After graduating...ended up reformatting those floppies in the 1541 Commodore floppy drive I bought 5 years later at Toys R US for $200.
1: No DRM
2: Not made by Microsoft (just kidding, although that is a factor for some people)
3: No DRM
Have tried several times to setup MythTV...even with KnoppMyth & Mythdora. Fine program...IF you want to spend the time tweaking it to work like it needs to be. Even using (K)Ubuntu 6+ & installing everything from apt-get...was a pain. The previous two are easier resolutions & do work...but I & others want to use our PC's for other things...other than a high-priced VCR.
On the other hand...you can get free/open source PVR software for Windows with no DRM...not made by Microsoft & programmed outside the USA. Not only that...but I can record & convert programming with Auto Gordian Knot at the same time I'm doing whatever I need to with my PC. Even though MythTV can be setup like how I & others use our PC's...it's a more painful job than getting the dentist to do dental work without any pain killers(IMHO).
If you knew about the public opinion on the RIAA, why would you take money from them?
When one of the media leaders at one of the republican debate asks how many of the candidates (which several of them are currently serving in congress) did not believe in evolution...three of them raise their hands. If they refuse to believe in science or math & think that creationist "museum" in Kentucky is what represents what they believe really happened...what does this say about their morality & intelligence about taking money from any source? How about all of these representatives which read the "patriot act" or the immigration debacle currently in the senate before anything was mentioned...debated or voted on?
I believe these sum it up nicely about the voters in these districts & their elected representatives..."I showed respect even though I disagreed with you and yet you have the audacity to call me intelligent." - Focus on the Family Listener to Keith Olbermann from MSNBC. Or this..."Why is it our most "christian" politicians run the sleaziest campaigns?"
By & large...this is giving these "ladies & gentlemen" more than enough intelligence & morality than they will ever posses.
While the drugs which companies add to our food supply may or may not be good for you...they are great for the bottom line of these companies. Am not going to tell anyone to consume or not to consume anything. The reason is that a friend of mine with diabetes & nerve damage told me this truism...you are going to die 1 of these days...whether or not you consume anything they say it bad for you. Losing a few minutes/days or years off of your life isn't going to mean anything at all. The reason...look at the time you spend at the computer...watching TV or wasting time. Worrying about what you eat or drink will only shorten your life even more.
Unless you have a particular reason for not consuming a chemical...enjoy your life while you can. It only comes around once!!! Aspartame or whatever can only kill you once.
Anyway...with the way the world is going down the tubes...just look at the Mad Max/Road Warrior or Soylent Green movies to see what you have to look forward to.

the legislation would also extend broadcast indecency standards to cable and satellite TV for the first time: 'In accordance with the indecency and profanity policies and standards applied by the [FCC] to broadcasters, as such policies and standards are modified from time to time, not transmit any material that is indecent or profane on any channel in the expanded basic tier of such distributor except between 10pm and 6am.'
As they continued barking up their tree...I wrote the following:
This is my 2 week notice & even though this is the only thing you can find to get onto me about...you can go F*** Yourselves (underlined as I tore the paper)...especially since I'm the only employee who shows up for their shift & agrees to help you out by working extra shifts when others decide not to show up.
If this would not be possible...I wish the US satellite providers would offer the BBC stations on a subscription basis...just like they do for HBO & other "premium" offerings.
it goes against the bible which clearly states that only 2 of every land vertibrate were allowed on the ark.
Funny thing about this...it said only 2 of the "unclean" animals...according to Mosaic Law & 7 of the "clean" animals from Genesis 7:2-3
Don't see many people mention this part of it...especially since all they seem to remember is the 2 by 2 going to the ark.
The part I would like to see in that museum is when Noah's son Ham saw him naked & passed out from being drunk.
