But does this include living expenses? I mean if you are going to follow him around the world, I would expect you would also get free food and lodging.
That is the case a lot of time. However especially in American Culture, if something pleasurable isn't officially sinful yet, we will take it in excess.
Well maybe? You should work out the numbers and see if your hypothesis is correct or not.
Except for jumping to a quick conclusion. Analysis Airports that are under the TSA and ones that are not, compare fatalities with comparable aircraft. Check with other countries that might have similar rules for aircraft safety.
You can go half cock and just give an opinion based on your like or dislike of an issue, or you can use Science and Math to test you opinion with facts.
If you are right cool, if you are wrong hey thats cool too, it is all part of Science!
Centrist mean they are not bound to ideology. Lets use some over generalizations to get a point across: Republicans: Large Government is Bad and let the free market correct itself over time. Democrats: Large Government is good Free market doesn't correct itself.
Centrists: There are some areas that government will do a much better job then private industry and there are areas private industry does better then the government. Lets find cases where things match.
For the most part we all want to see ourselves as a Centrist, But we normally fall to the left or right of center. Your statement appears that you are actually very left of center. As the Democrats and Republicans are actually Moderately Left and Right of Center. A New York Republican is about the same as a Arkansas Democrat. But a Arkansas Republican is far more to the right, As a California Democrat is to the left. But the parties are actually fairly moderate over all.
Yea the difference is after the great depression they renamed them as a recession because it sounds better.
This is a heavy recession, I would say it is a depression. We had Depressions before, and it isn't the Great Depression no where close to as bad, but it is on par with other Depressions we have had.
What the Occupy protesters don't realize it isn't just the 1% that really don't care for their methods or all their ideals, there are plenty of people of that 99% who have issues on their views too.
The United States (and a good part of the world too) is in a Depression (not the Great Depression but a normal one). Once things pick up people get jobs, and start working up the ladder they will find that what lot of what they are demanding they really don't need anymore. And as they learn to be part of the system, they find that it can be helpful.
We get these protest groups (on both sides) like the Tea Party and the Occupy when the economy is down. Why? For one a lot of them have extra free time so they can actually go out and protest. Secondly they are suffering right now so they are angry and passionate in their protests. However when things get better they will moderate a little.

How Doctors Die
·
· Score: 3, Informative
I have worked in health care, I never saw such behavior. If the Dr. is profit motivated. This stuff usually isn't the best use. Too much expensive gear to run, patients who are mostly on Medicare getting a reduced rate for their services, then you will need to fight with the insurance companies and the documentation to try to get your money. Specialists is where they make money. The patient comes in (often with better Insurance) you cure their particular problem, schedule a few follow ups. And get them out and you get a bunch more people in. I haven't seen any doctor (and I have worked with really stupid, mean and greedy ones) that would allow a patient to suffer just to make extra money. For these cases it is often the family trying to extend the life of their love ones or there a request to be kept alive. If the Doctor lets them die, then they get law suits.
No it is the Evangelical Christians who are believing a Pagan calendar designed to help worship many gods. Sometimes I don't think most of these people actually read the bible.
So you unlocked your phone and got it an an unusable level. Well that isn't under warranty but we will sell you a new phone at full price to make it up to you. By the way we will work on locking down our original settings so you will feel even more motivated to need to unlock your phone.
Accountability. Is making sure the person who did push the button is actively involved to fix the problem. Accountability is also making sure the organization doesn't make the same mistake again. When people are afraid to make mistakes they are also afraid to exceed.
Now if this employee has a history of making mistakes and being reckless then yes he should get canned. But for most people there are there to do a good job and if they mess up they are feeling really bad about it.
If you have 12 million dollars of activity tied to one person who can cause it to die with a few keystrokes, then the organization has a problem. If the problem is a situation where anyone could have made the mistake, then the accountability is on the organization because it is a matter of time before someone makes a mistake.
Most organization have Silos (every department that does their own thing). The IT Department is one of those few departments that works with the other departments. We need to make sure there are no conflicts between other departments. For example the information that one department collects needs to match up with an other departments data. So an Engineering Department work with a full breakdown of every part a product uses. The costs and expense of each part will need to be in the finance system. Even though the finance department doesn't really care about parts. But they care about the money flow. So IT needs to keep all these departments who never talk to each other working in sync.
Most newbees in IT want to tell everyone what goes on. What happens, we get yelled at. Because each silo doesn't care what the other department needs they only care what they need, and they get mad because they think IT is giving special preference to the other guy. Your system went down, we got it working, but we don't know why it went down, is not a good answer. Your system went down, we got it working, and we found out why here is why, is not a good answer because then they will point fingers left and right and trying to figure out why IT didn't think of this department use case that they were never told about nor is in their scope to know it will exist. When we do try to explain the problem, most of the time they don't care so they will cut your short.
The reason people hate IT, is because we cannot say Yes all the time. If we did then we wouldn't be doing our jobs. We need to come up with issues and problems to be worked out before hand and make a process for it. Other Departments hate dealing with this level of granularity and think of us just being a bunch of no men. That and because of all the things we need to deal with, we need to stay calm when everyone else isn't, so we just seem cold and impersonal.
So ask for a paper bill and use your credit card to pay for it. Online payments even with the credit card is cheaper for version unless they have idiots for their IT. There is a lot of expense in people pushing paper around.
Um... For GoDaddy to support SOPA would mean more work for them and will cut into their bottom line. This corporation vilification is nonsense, Most corporations do not have Billions of dollars. They are smaller businesses that provide the backbone to the economy the CEO's know the employees and work hard to keep the company growing and keeping their employees hired. Except for targeting corporations you should target the corporations that do evil things.
What is a corporation. A corporation is a legal setup for a business where in case they go bankrupt the employees/share holders are not legally responsible for the dept themselves. So if your company goes under you do not need to sell your house during bankruptcy. Why was this created because economic prosperity needs people who take risks. A corporate license or LLC helps the business take some risks while protecting the person from some of the consequences.
What happened during this economy was the bust started in the housing market (Adjustable rates sub-prime loans, made lending less risky per lender, and offered loans to more people, most of which shouldn't have been able to get such a loan). Housing Market was normally recession resistant area where people who needed loans could use their homes and property as collateral. As well the banks who leaned their money made a good chunk from Mortgages. So Banks lost a source of income and their primary source of collateral is loosing values so they became hyper risk adverse to giving loans. This means employers cannot get loans to expand their business or pay the bills to go threw the down time. So they are getting short on money, a lot of a companies values are in non-liquid form such as property, equipment, and long term investments. So they face a crunch in cash they they need to pay now. They cannot just sell their property or equipment so unfortunately as they have less business they need to layoff people. Layoffs are actually bad for a company in long term as on the average Employee turnover costs a company 150% vs keeping the employee, and laying off a person during a bad time means they will need to spend more when times get going again during good times. But however employees are more liquid and demand payments (for a piece of equipment you may be able to push maintenance from once a week to every other week) Cutting employee pay usually effect performance worse then layoffs. So they need to layoff people. Now a lot of companies are in this situation so a lot of people get canned. This means there is a drop in demand for goods and services that exasperated the problem.
Now we are in a Depression (not the Great Depression but a normal Depression) People are afraid of a lot of stuff so they are not trying to start their own business because they cannot get loans to start one. We need companies and people to start new companies to innovate and grow to expand. Corporations are mostly good. There are some large bad apples out there that needs to be brought down. If a company is too big to fail then it is too big. But there are a lot of companies out there that are doing a lot of good. We need to stop demonizing corporations and start supporting the good ones and not be a customer to the bad ones.
People make mistakes (a company is a collection of people). For some odd reason our culture has become one that wants blood for every mistake. We hear about a security breach or data loss at Google or Amazon and we go "Well someone is going to get fired!" Why should someone get fired for making a mistake that anyone might have done. Was the person who pushed the button the did the work take all the blame, or should the whole organization be at blame because it was too easy to do that with a push of a button. I remembered early in my career I was cleaning out some temp files that emacs makes "ends with ~", I had a bunch of them so i did an rm -f * ~ vs an rm -f *~ So I ended up clearing out my project then continued onto my home directory. I felt bad I lost all my work, I didn't get fired my Boss asked about backup, I only had some a week ago. so had to work harder to get caught up, and in a few days I was back. But now I became very careful when using the rm -f command. People make mistakes and learn from them. If we need to punish people extra for mistakes people will not learn from them they will just be hostile to the organization that makes it easy to make mistakes and then severely punished for doing such.
GoDaddy wants a reputation as a reputable DNS register. They probably supported SOPA so their name will not be targets as a friend to people/organization who perform software piracy. Then people started protesting it and pointing out how the rules are too strict and can hurt the good guy, so they changed their position.
Software Piracy is a bad thing. If you believe that software should be free then go out and support GNU and other Free software projects. But pirating closed software and state you are morally right to do so, would also mean the people could violate the GPL and other Open Source Licenses using the same moral standards. However we are having a hard time coming up with a legal/technical solution to the problem with software Piracy that doesn't dramatically hurt the honest customers as well.
So if they Didn't Approve SOPA they could have been seen as a harbor for software pirates (That gives them a bad name, and making new customers worry about choosing them). If they Approved SOPA they would would be branded to be against the small internet company who wants to make the next new thing (Pissing off their key customers) If they took no position then they would be considered apathetic to the goings on in the internet world. (That would mean that if a regulation passed they may not be in compliance and thus go out of business, so customers will avoid them) Or they swap position depending what they feel is public opinion (Then you get what happens now)
Yea, Software Developers shouldn't ever make money by developing their code. The hours of coding, and making sure is a good clean app that runs well. Should all go out for free. The Years of studying computer science degree, should just be for the joy of it. And for Food and Housing we IT Professionals should just live with our parents for the rest of our lives.
These small apps that take a good amount of work, are really easy to use. So you are not going to make money doing consulting, Or would you rather have an Open Source Free app that will find a way to trick the person into giving them your money, like going threw a cloud service or something.
If you want to Develop a Free app you should be allowed to do that. However Vilifying why do you need to vilify people who want to make a living or at least some extra spending money in these tight times, in one of those few markets that are growing.
Using GNU and Linux there are string attached. You need will get the "You are a bad person" Alert if you need to install a closed source driver to get your PC to work. Or breaking the law in order to get something that can play a DVD.
How many people get smart phones just because they work. They get them because they have cool neat new features. In 2008 I got an iPhone (origional?) Then in 2010 I got the iPhone 4. My Wife got my old iPhone and that old phone still works. iOS is stuck on version 3. But you can still get apps for it that work fine for it. I may upgrade on the iPhone 6 but that depends on what comes out. I wanted the iPhone 4 because of the high resolution display, easier to read text in small fonts. The new features in the iPhone 4s isn't that appealing to me Siri is a cool toy but I will get board with it quickly... Mostly because I am not one who talks much.
(I am using standard staff prices for my area, Labor costs can very) You have 10 engineers who are paid 90k a year. 1/2 of the time they are focusing on IT related issues which isn't their field. (450k spent on IT) If you hire 4 people in IT that are paid 60k (240k spent on IT) who can focus on their jobs and get more work done as it is in their field.
So in this case the company is currently spending more per IT hour and the effectiveness per it Hour is less.
If you replace it with numbers in your area who knows... You may not be justified for an IT department or you may have a bigger need.
Well Apple just needs to delay payment as long as possible as the Euro drops further the fine in American Dollars will be less.
On a side note... I haven't been seeing as many snotty messages from European Slashdotters, Saying how great things are in Europe and the US should do things the same way here.
Really the problem is with peoples life style and diets don't match.
The office worker who doesn't do too much activity should have more veggies and less protean and carbs. The guys who are doing physical labor will need more carbs and protean (they need the quick energy after the meal, and they are doing a lot of work that damages the body so protean helps them heal up stronger). Then you have people with different body needs. Some people tend to need more of a nutrients then others. For example. I tried to go vegetarian in college a few times, the college had a good selection of vegetarian meals a lot of them were tasty. However after a few weeks I wasn't feeling good at all from this. I needed more protean (Increasing Tofu, nuts and beans helped some but not enough) Then a decided to add eggs and chicken and Fish I started to feel better. My body isn't well suited for being vegetarian. Other peoples are, they don't like the taste of meat or they are not really much into it, and their bodies function fine with needing less protean. So they thrive of being a vegetarian, that is all fine and good. But to the point I really don't want big brother or big corporation telling me what I should and shouldn't eat, and suffer financial consequences for my choice.
Beware of the Percent (%) When I see the a Number with a % I worry about the message they are trying to portray.
Because with Percent increase for a small market we should expect a large percentage increase. for a large market smaller percentage increase expected.
8% increase for solar panels isn't a good sign that people are really jumping on this technology. Solar Panels are a small market. 8% increase is probably more closely to people who wanted it but now are in an economic position where they can get it now. Get above 15% then you have some demand.
But for a larger business an 8% increase is a good number because there are so many customers right now that 8% means a lot of extra people are jumping in.
The Percent really summarizes data down to a level that really isn't that useful unless you see it in full context. And you are comparing Apples to Apples, Actually it would be comparing Granny Smiths with Granny Smiths to really make them useful.
The problem is simple, the free market has been corrupted. Government subsidies decreased the costs to these companies so they could produce more product for lower price. However not all companies can get the same subsidies so they are forced to compete with some companies who have the ability to sell more for less, increase supply thus creating a situation where other companies need to sell at a loss as well there isn't that high of demand to allow these companies to invest into more efficient production methods. Thus they go out of business because they don't make money.
"If you build it then they will come", is not an economic principal. A lot of people have been burned by green energy, my father put up a wind turbine (on top of windy mountain) that cost him $20k and he saves $20 a month on his power bill. Other forms of green energy like Geothermal seems to only have a marginal effect. People who have tried going green with big investments have gotten burned. So with solar energy no one really believes the claims on how much they will really save because the green energy market has lied to the public too many times to try to sell their goods.
Solar Panels will need to improve more to a point where their price justifies their cost. Not lower the price where their price justifies their performance, because this method sounds like they are dumping junk on us.
I have always considered myself as my own personal business of one person. My business has limited resources so it normally only takes one customer (AKA my Employer) Besides monetary compensation my customer has agreed to also pay for Health Insurance and other Benefits for my services.
As my own business, I want to insure a steady business from my customer(s) so I work to distinguish my business from the others, to give my customers the best bang for their buck.
As a way to expand my Brand, my services include the job requirements as the bare minimum, then a value add of additional work beyond the requirements that are meant to add value to my brand and delight my customers.
Now if I feel that I can get a better deal with a new customer, I will notify my customer that I need to move my services and work on a migration plan to help transfer my core services and some of the value adds that the customer was use to to others in the organization. Then will leave that customer with a feeling that they got value from my service and will start with a new customer working again to get my brand name up but now charging a rate that is better, to allow my business to grow.
Yes it sounds like a bunch of MBA mumbo jumbo. But while you are employed you have sold your time to the benefit of someone else. They are expected to profit more off of you then you are getting compensated... However your compensation should be just for the work that you do and should fall around the points where supply (of people who do the job you do, or very close to what you do) meets demand (where there are people who want/need people that can do that job) Hard work and taking the extra step helps make you more attractive (thus increasing the demand for you) however the elasticity of the supply and demand for your job may not not allow for too much extra compensation. However the supply and demand elasticity can change over time, and one should make sure that they are just not on the bare minimum because a huge influx in supply or a decrease in demand could mean you would be the first to get the ax. Economics tends to take place even when we don't want it to.
Then you have him give you a raise.
I bet you can do it with regular expressions.
Replace "Stars", with "Give my IT Guy a $90.00 an hour raise."
Also "Your fired" with "good job"
But does this include living expenses? I mean if you are going to follow him around the world, I would expect you would also get free food and lodging.

(I am using standard staff prices for my area, Labor costs can very)
You have 10 engineers who are paid 90k a year. 1/2 of the time they are focusing on IT related issues which isn't their field. (450k spent on IT)
If you hire 4 people in IT that are paid 60k (240k spent on IT) who can focus on their jobs and get more work done as it is in their field.
I was using chrome.
However your compensation should be just for the work that you do and should fall around the points where supply (of people who do the job you do, or very close to what you do) meets demand (where there are people who want/need people that can do that job)
Hard work and taking the extra step helps make you more attractive (thus increasing the demand for you) however the elasticity of the supply and demand for your job may not not allow for too much extra compensation. However the supply and demand elasticity can change over time, and one should make sure that they are just not on the bare minimum because a huge influx in supply or a decrease in demand could mean you would be the first to get the ax. Economics tends to take place even when we don't want it to.
