Or... 1. They work for a Unionized employee base and the Boss needs a PI to fire the slacker. As they need real proof before they do any HR. I have worked for a lot of companies Big Ones little one, with higher management with the low men on the organization Unionized and Un-unionized and let me tell you this there is no attempt to keep the people down usually there are attempts to bring people up. However most people will not allow them to do things like a Raise and more Responsibility. So they stay at their same job doing what they did, and no raise. Union people tend to feel ultra entitled (being entitled is a bad thing) so they will more often abuse the system then just being honest. So a company will need a PI to cut threw the red tape and fire the dishonest bastard who is wasting money.
2. If the Boss is going to waist company money to hire a PI to fire you. Then he better have a good reason otherwise he is just wasting money. Most companies actually try to keep people hired as training costs are high. If he is going to spend all this money to fire you because he doesn't like you then it is just a double bad for business.
3. How is hiring a PI new? They have been doing this for hundreds of years.
Corporations are easy they are about making money. If they are going to do something that is opposite to that goal then there is a serious problem. Keeping their workforce down doing low level jobs vs. hiring them up is counter productive and bad for the bottom line. If they are going to hire a PI it will be because they need to prove that you are costing more then it will be to correct your behavior and hire a PI.
The year of Linux on the desktop is the same year the the Desktop becomes irrelevant.
This isn't about the death of the Desktop, just as the Mainframe hasn't died yet either. It is a shift in usage. The Mainframe was widely used across orgs including many smaller companies then the PC (and PC based servers) had slowly replaced them leaving the mainframe reserved to large companies who need the big horse power. A lot of mainframe companies have died or been merged and became less relevant Prime, Digital, leaving IBM and HP to control that market.
The PC will have a similar fate. It will loose the home market. and its job will be for more for jobs that take medium level number crunching (think excel sheets and basic DB stuff), and software development jobs. Probably Dell and Lenovo or HP.
Are we going to loose something as home users... Yes. just as the small business lost out when they in essence downgraded from mainframes to Desktops... However they will gain features too, such as improved mobility, power savings, and better price.
Is Microsoft going to be dead in a new Linux world order. Probably not. Right now Android is looking like it will become king. However the game for mobile is still rather early. Apple is still strong, Microsoft does have a reputation of coming in late in the game. And the GNU community does have a tendency step on its own feet and change its rules to fight off profitable use of GNU software that has any sort of lock-down.
1. If they were to leave it will take years to do so.
2. While they are there they will need to protect themselves
3. There is a fine line between a civilian and militants when people are protecting their own country. And many civilians will become militant even when it isn't warranted.
4. Solders will protect themselves if they are threatened
War isn't nice or pretty good people die. However sabotaging it and just make it more dangerous is not effective, and will just cause more pain on both sides and does nothing to help resolve the conflict.
Harm... 1. It is now much harder for musicians to land recording contracts. Because music industry will only record big sellers as the other types would spread via file sharing.
2. Not respecting the license is a bad thing pirating software is just as bad as taking GNU software bundling it and not giving access to the source.
3. Distorts supply and demand and free market economy as it creates a high supply lowering the cost of the software. Meaning us professionals don't get paid alot.
Ummm. No. You take it out. That is why it is rape. The longer it is there the higher chance for a STD pregnancy, or just the fact he didnt stop he is controlling power over her. At whatever stage or the relationship when one side says stop you stop.
If he did a good job he would have self censored names and minor details which crossed the line of giving information and creating a dangerous environment. Sure information should be free but not all details. Ok the military killed more civilians then they reported, that is good leak that the public should know. But who had each kill or the name of a platoon that did it, is dangerious and wrong. Because it puts them in greater risk.
There hasn't been any legal action against people who read the documents however, a lot of students are trying to get some nice government jobs that may require some security clearance. That means you may get a full check up on your habits... If they see that you are you browsing WikiLeaks it just may mean that you may not be the best person to be trusted with classified information. Hence you will not the job.
Why is information classified? It is not as much to keep it away from the honest citizens but to keep it out from other countries... Sure it is nice to say all information should be public... But do you want say North Korea to know our military plans? Do you want the people of Iraq know what we think about a candidate before an election? Do you want the Taliban know which troops have a higher civilian kill rate then other troops?
The WikiLeaks articles really didn't give out any information that we found as shocking. Any Idiot knows that that our troops have killed innocent civilians, or that some leaders of other countries are not the most upright leaders. All this does is puts names next to the remarks and puts it on an official record.
It is like I am sure you browse for porn. You cross the line when you do such things for profit vs. for yourself. Buy doing this for profit and in bulk he is abusing one companies business model to create his own.

Perhaps it is because GNU and other FOSS are distribution license not a technical guide or operational guidelines. I can produce crap and put it under whatever license I want and it will still be crap.
Now there will be the argument if I make crap and make it Open Source then someone else can see if an make it better. However it was crap then they would make their own or just not bother with your product. As if it was closed source no one would buy it.
Now if it was a good product (and got enough attention) other developers will flock to add stuff to it and make it better if it was open source. If it was closed source your product will sell you will make money and hire more developers to add to it so you can sell more or new versions.
Good or Bad software isn't from the license. It is from design of the system, the quality of the coding, how well it fixes a problem... The issue with the license is more about legal, funding, business model, personal beliefs etc...

There are only few cities in the world that can get away with that thinking. New York, London, Paris, Chicago... Why can these cities work with high taxes on corporations. Very simple Supply and Demand. These major cities are places where businesses want to be as there are other businesses to work with and a large customer base, as well as a huge employee base to choose from and being able to pick the best of the best. Sure you are going to pay a lot for it but it is worth it. And the cities can charge a lot of taxes on these guys as they know that they will pay for it and not move out, as they can make so much more money there.

It isn't as much the job but the attitude of the person doing it. To some people Every Job is boring, mostly because they are slackers and are trying to find reasons not to work. For most of the population there are some jobs they like and jobs they don't and know that and willing to stick threw the parts they don't like as they can get back to the parts they like. Then you get the nuts who love EVERYTHING or they are just Ass Kissers.
Every Job has good and boring parts to it. They saying "If you find a job you love you will never work a day in your life." is false. There will be boring parts or parts that you will not enjoy for your job. However if you keep your mind open you will see there are often a lot of good parts too...
Even though I have been making applications over the network for decades, I still think it is cool when I make an initial connectivity test program where I type some stuff and I see it on on a different computer. Other people will be so what. While they are pointing out to me what I think is kinda dull and they think it is cool. You job is what you make of it. Try to find joy in your work vs. focusing on the negative. And perhaps IT people will be a bit less bitter... Unless they see it as a job perk.

Pretty much. If people know that small children will be allowed to go threw the cracks they will use them to get threw the cracks. If their morals are warped enough to think that killing a bunch of people who may or may not agree with their political/religious views. Just to make a point that most people already know, just because they have been warped to think that it will grant them good graces in the eyes of God or Alla. What makes you think they will draw the line for sending their small children... Hey it is Fast trip to God.
We have been using kids in warfare for thousands of years.
Sure the child may not understand what is going on. However we cannot bend the rules for children and make the rules stricter for adults. As it will invalidate the whole.
Now is it too late? Probably not for android phones. But the UI choppiness has been a real barrier to desktop performance and acceptance.
I know some people are touting this as proof that open source works (We saw a problem and we fixed it!). But the fact that Windows and OS X and many other lesser OS have fixed this problem years ago could also be used to show that Open Source is not quite as up on the times as you would like to think.
Really I thought it was accelerated by the left wing and those environmentalists who say that all new technology is bad and evil, and unwilling to see that life is about balance.
Or...
It could be that China is a country that has the highest population and its new free(er) market economy allows to better utilize its human capital and brain power. As well they are in a culture where when they are competing they will try to win at all costs even in spite of them selfs. While in the US we try hard to win but on a longer term.
Or...

It could be that China is a country that has the highest population and its new free(er) market economy allows to better utilize its human capital and brain power. As well they are in a culture where when they are competing they will try to win at all costs even in spite of them selfs. While in the US we try hard to win but on a longer term.
