I though 2 came from Bell Labs. And 3 Came from Microsoft.
And you Think Ubuntu is at par with windows and os x... You say that after I spent a day trying to upgrade Linux on a Dell that was preinstalled with Linux... With Ubuntu giving me the Free Lecture when I needed to install the free non-free drivers. Use a different kernel to get the video driver to work, and play around with encryption keys to hook up to a different source.... All I wanted was my system to disply the correct resolution.
That could be same with the GNU fanboys (or any fanboy for that matter)
Being free thinking is not a paradox on the tools that you use, or the license for you to use them. I switched from Linux/Unix to Mac about 8 years ago. Because Mac gave me what I needed.
1. A clean efficient UI 2. Enough Unix backend to do the tough stuff. 3. Friendly enough with Microsoft to work well on Microsoft networks and use office files.
It works for me and helps me to work.
That being the case Macs are not for everyone. Windows is a tool that solves other people problems. And linux solves others.
And just because GNU and Mac users tend to be liberal it doesn't mean they see Eye to Eye on license and IP rights.
Do these stripes have to do anything with your business hours....
Starting work say a 9:00 everyone logs in checks and sends their email out getting server responces will create a stripe. If other countries work with the organization they probably have their schedules match to the US time zones. (AKA working nights) So you get you start of the day stripe. After cofee break stripe, lunch stripe, etc...
The stripes are not really a big deal. I would pay more attention to the active countries
For one the market share for iPhones is still much much larger then all the Android based phones out there. It is second only to RIM Blackberries. Most mobile application/web development is primarily tested for the iPhone So right now iPhone as more apps. The iPhone is the standard that all the other phones need to set the bar against.
It isn't about features or technology it is about mindset. Right now the iPhone is still the winner (next year who knows bur right now they are the winner)
AT&T got a lot of new customers just because people wanted the phone... For the most case this is opposite... People search for the plan they want and get the phone. If AT&T looses iPhone exclusivity it would really heart them. Well lets go with the other ones instead they may have better coverage or faster network. Spring G4 iPhone would be cool. Perhaps Verizon my have a cheaper Service. Perhaps t-mobile will allow tethering.
Android is still second fiddle... I for one like to see it grow and give apple a good run for its money however you have to be an idiot to think the iPhone is irrelevant.
Government agencies doesn't like Companies doing what they do. They portrait a company as a greedy organization who will cut all the corners and create a product that is doomed to fail.
Companies doesn't like Government taking over what they do. They Portrait the government as a huge inefficient bureaucracy who will spend more then what they need and make compromise over compromise until you have a bad product which doesn't do anything well.
Early to the Mid 90's is when most computers were able to do at least 640x480x8bit this was a big deal, before we were stuck on 320x200 resolution for 8bits (if you were lucky, I was a 320x200 2bits CGA) But in short this is when computers now able to show photo realistic pictures. And many developers have long waited for the ability to make programs that look so much like the real thing, As the earlier systems required a lot of artistry to come up with a cartoonish icon at best. So it was really a large scale experiment on how realistic you can make your program... What happened over time was people realized that being to realistic wasn't helpful and overlaying a 3d Interface with 2d controls was counter productive
Well much like the TFA stated it is really a balancing act. Adding enough detail to get the point across but not to much to make it distracting or to detailed for the concept. Colors and gradients do help when used correctly. Eg. when you represent a button it will need to be colored in a way that it appears to be 3d, or a toggle control will need some gradients in it to make it look more then a box in a box. Heck even putting a shadow under the active window to help it stand out.
What do you think Union Dues are for... It was supposed to be for Paying people in case of a strike... However when there is a strike they rairly pay people.
The only difference between a For Profit company and a Not For Profit is that For Profit call the money they make as Profit. NFP call the money they make as excess revenue.
So The Conservatives get huge funding from Corporations. The Liberals get huge funding from Unions.
What is new here. Both sides are just as corrupt and twised.
The right will steal money out of your right pocket. The Left will send next to you on you left and reach around and steal money out of your right pocket.
It wasn't jumping the shark going 3d... It was necessary... If you are still using sprites your game will look old and out of date. Even when they went 3D the games were still based on the old method.
Every attempt at doing so creates a serious privacy problem, adds an extra level of security problem, or is very complicated that it is difficult to deploy on a large scale.
I agree. Apple is just making life difficult for its users. Espectially because the iPhone doesn't multi-task that means if you wanted just use 100% cpu sure it will drain your battery faster but it is not like you are slowing down other apps.
While Microsoft won the browser war they failed their objectives.
The point of winning the browser war was so Microsoft could change the direction of web standards, eg pushing Active X except for Java Applets. VB script vs Javascript etc. This failed miserably for Microsoft now they are putting time and effort into IE a Free OS Addon to the product and they are not getting anything really out of it. Except for this big push to make IE seem like this great browser they should just well use Firefox it is just as good if not better, we will keep IE going and as secure as possible for a while but will phase it out in about 10 years.
Staying #1 in the browser market where every version you are pushed to follow everyone elses standards is just a wast of your time and money, espectially when you have a slew of other people making good alternatives. Firefox, Chrome, Safari, etc... That really want to follow the standards. Let IE fall too 20% market share, this is OK.
Why these trade rules aren't being used to enforce environmental agreements and not IP ones is somewhat beyond me.
Because environmental concerns aren't part of the trade agreement.
This of it this way...
The United States cannot Create enough cane sugar to meets its demand. However it does have a huge amount of valuable IP that it can sell. Costa Rica has more Cane Sugar then they need but there is a demand for IP.
So you setup a trade agreement where you can buy their sugar and they can buy your IP as long we agree to particular rules. Now Costa Rica may have put some rules on the United States... Perhaps we need to buy so many units minimum of Sugar...
IP is not imaginary property or it is as imaginary as money is. There is real value to such property, as creating it has an expense. Not giving IP law part of a trade agreement would be stupid it would be like allowing a non-US country to print US Dollars to pay legally pay for its products.
Lets put it an other way. Lets say Costa Rica took GPL code and created a Closed Source application and began selling it across the world. Costa Rica could just ignore FSF and all the other groups who may say you cant do that. In reality it isn't a case to create a war... However by doing this they would be in violation of IP laws and the host country could restrict trade.
It is not bullying or being evil. It is about insuring we play by the agreed rules. Selling Sugar to the United States keeps a lot of people in Costa Rica fed and alive. Do you want to risk killing a major percentage of industry by breaking the rules.
Also modern infrastructure doesn't make secured connection less necessary... Ok before you go ranting here me out...
Back when we needed encryption is back in the days of hubs where the cost of switches were way to expensive. Now that we have switches port sniffing has become more and more useless as the equipment directly forwards the traffic vs. a wide broadcast that was even popular 5 years ago. So today the method of getting personal information isn't really useful for the problem encryption solved.
That said, We still don't have a trusted path on the internet. There are still hubs floating around and someone in the middle can setup something in the middle, to get your data... However Encryped vs. UnEncrypted data is being relegated to the people are doing more direct attacks on information vs. the old day just get as much data as possible. So if you are going to risk getting caught and being on the "inside" of the traffic you really need to make sure your reward is greater then the risk. And a lot of the information passed really isn't that useful. And not worth the risk.
The Foot ball player still needs to show up to every practice if he wants to or not, as well he still needs to keep his grades at a passing level. The fact that some schools give athletes free passes only really hurts them.
Shhhh. Quite... We want to live in a world were every Microsoft bug will remain unfix and slowly become so problematic that we can life fat dumb and happy with the alternatives.
First a lot of these skills can be gathered by more productive methods.
Things like. Joining a school club, peing part of a play, even joinging a sports team, or helping with public service.
Secondly with gaming if it is not fun you don't play the game. Unlike work sure you may love your job but there are some days/weeks that are just so boring that if it was a game you would say screw this game it is way to dull. And get a more interesting one. World of Warcraft makes sure you rewards and the amount of what is going is own is fast. Real life there could be weeks/months/years/decades before your work pays off.
Hiring someone who puts their video game skills on their resume would make me very iffy about hiring him. Once he finds that real work isn't as fun or ballanced or fair as it is in a video game he would most likely quit. Or just struggle in work as real work often require a UI that is a bit more complex then games are.
You do... I don't... I am sorry. China's success is based on them slowly taking elements of our culture combined with the fact that they have a country with the worlds highest population Having about a billion more people then the United States (300 million) occupying the same geographical size, and having many of the same resources. The question isn't wow look how strong china is, it is why isn't china so much more powerful. It is because their government/culture doesn't work well.
Or just a bit more about what they are studding or showing... It isn't about ignoring the issue, it is just about preaching when it isn't always wanted. Do you want to hear every time you post on the internet the carbon you create is melting the icecaps and leaving the polar bears to die.
I though 2 came from Bell Labs.

Your Concept of project management is akin to a PHB on software development.
Your program need the following
1) Take Input from User
2) Process Input
3) Save Information
4) give output.
5) Document for future use.
If we use 3 Months (1/4 year) for each step, we're looking at 1 year, three months to implement, including figuring out time lines for implementation.
Once you start rolling out, you cookie cutter as much as you can, so you have easy, consistent configurations and implementations.
I don't get why it takes so long.
It is just standard politics...
So in the end Your screwed both ways.

These are all valid concerns unless of course Google implements such features then Bing has a new set of issues.

hey there are still people who need to do FORTRAN code... And most likely they use the same computer to write real documents as well.
Well the only group that we can really make fun at now are the White Male Catholics. Any other group is considered in bad taist.
