I registered very early for Flickr, back when it was in beta and you could email the founders with questions and get a reply within five minutes. I became a paying member last year but this fsckup with the Yahoo login (I don't like, or trust, Yahoo) made me delete my Flickr account.
It was back in 2002 at the CeBIT show in Germany that the people from YellowTAB gave me a "late beta" of Zeta for reviewing purposes. "Only a few problems left to fix", they said.
Turned out the entire GUI crashed all the time and tons of drivers where missing. Then came a big upgrade, then another beta and then... nothing.
Now it's 2005, and it's now "ready for a release next month". I suggest they bury it instead. For good, or turn the whole thing over to the OpenBeOS people.
>If Europe wants to freely violate US copyright, then we have no obligation to respect Swedish products and/or copyrights.
Well, actually, american companies have been ignoring several swedish patents for years now by stalling them in courts. Swedish inventor Håkan Lanz has the patent for colour graphics in a computer and several AMERICAN computer companies has helped ruining this man when he came to them pointing out that they owed him money...
I'm here at the IT-forum in Copenhagen right now and during the opening keynote on Tuesday, something very interesting happened.
The very very boring keynote, I should add, was divided into several shorter presentations. And during one or two of them the speaker was pointing out how Microsofts products had gained marketshare.
Quotes like "More than X thousand websites that used to run on Apache and Linux now run on Windows Server 2003!" where met with a complete silence from the crowd. Since this is my first IT-forum I where expecting the same kind of reaction as at an SteveNote but this didn't happen here.
My point is that Microsoft doesn't seem to get that people aren't impressed or interested of their FUD anymore. At least not the ~3000 people attending the keynote...
That Quark is finally coming out with a OS X Version of Quark is indeed important news. But for me who works at a magazine and sees how important it is that everything just WORKS I would say we are a long way from upgrading to either Quark Express 6 or Indesign 2.
Just switching versions is far to dangerous and it takes loads and loads of testing and re-testing to make sure the new software makes the cut. I for one think this is too late - the logical upgrade for many of my collegues in the business have been Windows and Indesign. It's a cheaper and better solutions for those who work in a 99% Windows environment already.
And just for the sake of it - I'm not a Windows troll. I use Mac OS X exclusively at home and both Windows and Mac OS X at work. I love Mac OS X but from an IT Department point of view, Macintoshes are just to darned expensive if you are going to upgrade and buy ten new PowerMacs with ten new versions of QuarkXpress 6.0.
They usually cost more here but the prices seems to have gone down in the last couple of days. Probably in time for christmas and the shopping frenzy...
when participating in several print-ads for the VIC-20 home computer in the early 80s, did you get to keep one for yourself and if so - did you use it ?
.. here in Sweden, Microsoft is more or less giving these machines away at about 2000SEK (about 180-190 USD) with two games, DVD remote control and a DVD movie. As I understand it, they aren't making any money of the actual Xbox unit but instead they are selling the games quite expensive.
I bought one and am a happy user so far. I would prefer a PS2 but they where too expensive.
.. I left a small consultancy company after 7-8 months there. I really never got along with one of the owners, even though he was a nice guy but after I left, I was called several time by one of their brown noses that worked there about helping them with their firewall, their email server and so on, all stuff that I installed for them while I worked there. I helped them out for a while but one day I got fed up and just said "Look, I left six months ago, either you start paying me or you can find someone else to help you".
Now, this wasn't really advanced stuff they needed a backup function configured, and maybe a new email account setup. Being that they uses Win2k server, the built in backup software and Exchange Server 5.5, it wasn't really high tech - all they had to do was to enter the right stuff at the right place and read the fscking instructions...
Anyways, after I set my foot down, I never heard from them again.

This has been around in Sweden for like 3-4 years now.

What's this "GNU/Linux" that keeps being mentioned from time to time? Torvalds named it Linux and that's the proper name of this operating system!

.. this is pre-historic news. I've had this mouse for a month!
. and yeah, it looks great next to my Mac but is really plastic and it feels really cheap to use.

Nokia has made several mistakes with this phone. First of all, the most obvious thing is that it's _so_ ugly.
Secondly, it's a UMTS phone, which could be a good think except Nokia doesn't think video chat is important.
Third - Nokias track record when it comes to quality in their products sure as hell won't pursuade me buy this phone.
No, Motorolas A920 is the way to go. It looks great.
They seem more and more desperate. I say screw 'em and lets focus on he stuff that matters instead.
As long as it isn't called "GNU/Kroupware", I'm a happy man...

I also live in Sweden and and don't know about you but nobody asked me about any tax. I, on the other hand, I voted NO when we decided to join the EU.
English is not my native language, troll.

.. there will be more lawyers assigned to SCO than there are developers within SCO.
I went with CAT5 in every room in my house. Two ports in every room which enables me to do both ethernet and phone easily through a patch panel.
It's really hard work unless you are taking down walls anyway or just have easy access and/or the right tools to do the job but it's worth it.
I got the press release from Yamaha about this more than a week ago...
It would be fun if someone would have a look at the drivers and port them to BeOS. Geforce4 is yet to be supported.
Actually, it turns out we got five additional games (no I'm not kidding) which makes it eight games and one DVD.
I can't comment on how the price was set since I don't know. It's a collegue at work who made the deal.
They usually cost more here but the prices seems to have gone down in the last couple of days. Probably in time for christmas and the shopping frenzy...

I've had this card for a month now. Pretty neat stuff though.
