In one shopping centre in Essex, they had 3 stores. None of these stores sold anything that you couldn't get at the others, and the floor space in two of them was quite large.

As well as competing with themselves, there are 4 other stores in the centre that _also_ sell console games.

When my wife and I saw all of these stores open we took a bet that it would be 6 months before Game went bust. It turns out it took 18, but we were close enough.

Problem is that in the UK, just an arrest can ruin your life. First, they get to keep your DNA and fingerprints even if they don't charge you. There's now a time limit on that, but it's still invasive and wrong.

Secondly, if you work in any profession or volunteer in any area that requires an ECRB check, all interactions with the police show up on this report. This includes arrests and hearsay recorded against you. In an economy like this, if you've got an arrest on your record, regardless of whether or not charges were brought, you can forget almost any job working with certain groups. There are plenty of people out there who _haven't_ been arrested to choose from.

That's nice for you, but paypal stole around 200 quid from me.

I sold a cell phone on eBay. Payment was made via paypal at around 08:30. At lunch time, I initiated the withdrawl of the funds to my bank account and went to the post office and posted the phone.

About 3 hours later, the funds were removed from my account, my account was locked down on the basis that it had been 'hacked' and I spent 2 days going through a process to get access to my account back. The reason that they believed it had been hacked is that it had received funds from a compromised account and then tried to withdraw those funds - I never knew that the sending account had been compromised, and I had no way of knowing that.

Even after proving that the money was for the ebay sale and showing them the link between these, they never did refund the money that they took back from my account.

That was the last time I used paypal to receive funds.

So they lied to you in their reply ? Neat ... Makes me trust them all the more.

This was NOT just a mistake by the YouTube content ID system. By their own admission, once the poster challenged the claim, it went through a further review by them. THAT would have been the time to release the video and relinquish their claim, but they chose to lie and confirm that they owned the music.

I believe that under the terms of the DMCA, they have perjured themselves and should face legal sanction, but they won't.

NEVER accept a caution. If your solicitor advises you to, get a new solicitor. Always opt for charges and a trial. You're far more likely to walk away clean that way.

I just sent the following complaint to the ipcc

    ---
    To whom it may concern,

As part of reading an article on the efforts to reduce music piracy, I visited http://rnbxclusive.com/

The message on this page advises "The above information can be used to identify you and your location. " It goes on to say

"SOCA has the capability to monitor and investigate you, and can inform your internet service provider of these infringements.
You may be liable for prosecution and the fact that you have received this message does not preclude you from prosecution."

This is completely heavy handed abuse by a police organisation. I should not be threatened with tracking and prosecution merely for visiting a web site from a news article. Please can you investigate why I have been threatened in this manner for simply following a link from a legitimate news website.

Flood them with similar complaints and maybe someone will get a talking to :)

  20. It's not the wages silly on Hackers Hit Apple Supplier Foxconn · · Score: 1

Every time one of these stories come up, people ask why the products aren't made in the US. A discussion then gets bogged down in staffing and labour cost issues. But these are just one part of the cost of running a factory.

Because most of the USA and Europe have strict laws about manufacturing conditions (circulation, legislation about working in areas with harmful vapours, waste disposal, etc.) before you put a single staff member on the factory floor, your costs in these regions are MUCH higher.

If you can get away with dumping your waste into the local river, of course you're going to be cheaper than someone who has to dispose of it properly. If you can get away with making people breath in fumes from solder and other fixing agents instead of properly ventilating your work area and extracting these harmful vapours, of course you're going to be cheaper.

I do. After about 3 weeks of getting used to the change from my Blackberry device to my iPhone, I find I'm more efficient on the iPhone.

I only use a messaging device when I can see the screen and focus on my message. The iPhone keyboard works more than adequately as long as you can look at it for the initial typing - once you've started, your hands will touch-type. More importantly, it seems more forgiving than the Blackberry once you're typing long messages.

Overall, I'm happier. I have one device that serves me well, company security are happy with it and it doesn't anoy me as much as the BB does.
