Remember folks: EVERYONE in the House who was pro-Net Neutrality was removed from power via massive corporate campaign donations (which are now unlimited because of our Wing Nut Supreme Court).
A man with a lot of construction experience - but NOT a Professional Engineer - designed a new church for the congregation he belonged to. Somehow it got built and was then inspected. The building was rejected for the glaringly obvious and justified reason that the plans had no PE stamp, as no Professional Engineer was even tangetially involved in the project.
As he was a devout Christian in the Topeka area, he was well-connected in the state house. The Kansas legislature - always the bastion of level-headed reasoning and logic - carved out an exemption for him as he did the work for free.
But perhaps the legistature has done us a favor in the long run, if all the people standing in the way of reason and progress continue to meet in their self-built temples constructed out of paper mache and styrofom heated by open flames.
We'll very soon know about inherent dangers or flaws, given the Chinese ain't big on Environmental Impact studies... or the telling the surrounding neighborhood squat.
Obama will just give them a free pass, as he did for AT&T's warrantless wiretapping while in the Senate. While Obama is part Kenyan, by his actions and inactions, he appears to have a bit of Penobscott-Bush heritage as well.
If / when Mubarak is taken down, The Muslim Brotherhood will slowly take over, not a pro-Western, pro-freedom movement of the people. We in the West (especially in the US) have this pollyannaish belief that once a tin-pot dictator is overthrown, said country will instantly and permanently become Switzerland or California. This 'Cairo Spring' may well turn out to be a long, cold winter for all the Mid-East and Israel specifically (re-encirclement).
How can you have a successful on-line gaming environment if some of the users' hacked hardware makes them unbeatable? Doesn't sound like much fun. I suppose this could happen with hacked games on the PC side, so maybe mine is a silly argument.
Open Standards? Doubtful. I'm sure the real engineers will design a great system - which will then be nibbled to death by green-eyeshade wearing ducks, haggling over pennies. Low bid wins again, with chips sub-sub-supplied from who knows where, with who knows what kind of buggy hard code - accidental or otherwise.
Plus the unintended consequence of 'making thigs easier for increasingly bad drivers (occupants?) in a mixed-mode system...
