true, but asus.co.uk redirects to uk.asus.com, which is asustech. while i initially agreed that something seemed fishy (as in underhanded), i don't know if i think that anymore. while the quality of the itsbetterwithwindows.com site is horrible, it seems unlikely that it's an illegitimate site. instead, they're probably being heavily courted by MS (with promises of cash, marketing funds, and the usual bit), and wish to please them, at the expense of their loyal fan/customer base.
exactly. further investigation leads to http://www.rdcpro.com/, the "Developer's Home on The Web", apparently owned and operated by the same guy, mike sharp.
to say the least, the legitimacy of this site should be taken with a grain of salt.
there are no links back to either Asus or Microsoft, no "About Us" page, no contact page, no Copyright/Trademark notices, nothing. there's absolutely nothing official about this page, whatsoever.
on the other hand, it is directly linked from asus.co.uk, about 2/3 down the page.
update: when trying to retrieve my "forgotten" user name, it tells me there isn't an account associated with either my email address or cell phone number.
has anyone else had similar issues?
i'm wondering if the complexity of the registration process, or their unexpected popularity is breaking user signup?
i'm sure the fantasy role playing game jokes abound in this lab (more-so than usual). hopefully everyone remembers to keep their blunt weapons handy, just in case...cause you know, whatcouldpossiblygowrong
except, the impression i got from not reading tfa was that this stuff *moved*. not sure how i'd feel if my hair gel decided to leave my hair, crawl around, down my face/back/arms/etc. if they could get it to stay put, but move around, but this stuff just takes off, apparently to wherever.
that i've heard so far ("how many lives put at risk from consumer goods", "o, woe is me it's not linux"), i think this is very cool.
i see this more a test of whether or not a small, (maybe) cheap, easy to use, versatile electronic device can and will be welcomed by the military.
given that most people under the age of thirty (if not older) are very comfortable with electronics, i see this working out very well. just wait, the fancy PDAs and other personal electronic devices from your favorite FPS are coming soon.
before i return to work: if he's already getting the PDFs somehow, save them to a directory, and use google desktop to search through them for the keywords. It will search through most common documents.
is in iraq on his second deployment. before he left for the second time, he picked up a laptop, and now communicates with the family via skype, and keeps in touch with his buds via wow.
iraq is iraq, and afghanistan is afghanistan, i can't really speak to what differences there may be from base to base let alone country to country, but i'd have to assume that there would be some similarities in infrastructure, availability, etc. expect your latency to be pretty high. my buddy's wow ping is usually around 2k. not sure how well skype works, but he hasn't asked about finding a replacement, and voice chat/vent for wow worked ok.
Is he really ignorant enough not to know better (unlikely, but quite possible)? Is he trying to excite his base so they'll give him more money next election? Is he following a promise he made when he was running? Is he trying to get some other politicians to oppose the bill so he can accuse them of being in favor of profanity and obscenity? Or is he just being rude to the public?
ooh, i know this one! it's the last one! (or the second one)
The funny thing is that the only other people that seem to be able to act like that and get away with it are governments. So if you are not the government or Big Entertainment you go straight to Federal Pound Me In The Ass Prison when you do act like them. Isn't that just hilarious?
it's been in the hardware business for a while and expanded its presence with Android.
can someone clarify? i know Google has their search appliance, but as far as i know, it's just a cheap dell server, of a line intended to be used by other parties for rebranding: link. there's even a case study on google on that page. the google search appliance is google software running on dell hardware. android is software, running on htc hardware.
i think the real question is, whose hardware (cisco,/linksys, smc, hp procurve, foundry, f5, etc) will this google routing software run on? (or am i missing something?)
then no. when you sign up for a free account, you agree to their TOS, which, if i'm not mistaken, includes agreement that anything can change at any time. you're paying them nothing, they OWE you nothing. if we're talking about a pay web-hosting company, then yes, but we're talking about a for-profit company providing a free service as a value-add to its clients (and often strangers). they should quit bitching, spend $20 a month and get a real, cheap, web host.
and shame on anyone for not backing up anything that's important to them.
i have to agree with what's been said many times here, why so many distros? if you're going to go that route, why not focus on the truly important, such as OpenSolaris, or, if you must keep cuddling up to ubuntu, why not mention mention paranoidlinux, a distro based off of ubuntu, designed to keep users security and privacy protected at all times?
You might try oDesk. I don't know much about them, but the site's been around for at least a year or so, and you seem to be able to choose whatever work suits you. Might be a good starting point, at least.
If you're a holy roller bent on extinguishing any glimpse of human genitalia from public view, then maybe you might want to consider who designed the human body to excrete waste fluids and eliminate waste. Blame God, if you think it's so evil.
this exchange comes to mind:
Peter: I'm looking for some toilet training books. Salesman: We have the popular 'everybody poops", or the less popular 'nobody poops but you'. Peter: Well, you see, we're catholic... Salesman: Ah, then you'll want 'you're a naughty, naughty boy, and that's concentrated evil coming out the back of you'.
I won't touch the origins of sex offender laws, though I believe they do not (in general) predate the US Constitution. Even if they had, many other unjust laws have predated the Constitution. Age is no basis for holding to a law.
(emphasis mine)
in high school, we read a short story called the lottery, and i believe it's still taught to this day (hopefully). just because something's been around forever doesn't mean it's right, just, or good.
in fact, and this is merely my opinion, it seems that the older something is, the more critical we should be in its examination, and the more cautiously we should approach its application.
the point of the story i linked is that it's easy to lose sight of the original intent after much time has passed. i don't want to start a religious debate, but look at some of the laws and codes that are "still on the books" (though almost certainly not observed) in the oldest, still extant religions... carrying paddles with you so when you poo, you can bury it so god doesn't step in it... not eating pork, likely because uncooked or poorly cooked pork carries much higher risks of sickness or disease than other meats...
and to go a step further, regarding what's been mentioned many times so far on this thread, the story challenges us to examine blindly following the crowd, and instead, ask why... i know thinking for one's self isn't popular these days, but it doesn't change the fact that we should, and that those who do should speak out or ask public questions when they see something fishy.
it's likely that everyone here is on the same side when it comes to feelings about sex offenders such as rapists, child predators, etc. questioning measures such as the one in the article should not be construed as sympathy for these people, but should be seen as concern for our own rights.

how very confusing. and yet, since asus seems to have no oversight or actual control of itself, maybe this is all legit, sort of.

a description of my attempt to use the site (and i'm sad i can't, thus far):
register, receive sms with link, click on link, validate my cell#.
check email, notice that i have a welcome email, followed immediately by a "we're sorry to see you go and your account is closed" email.
validate email address
try to finish registration, no luck, my cell# already has an account tied to it.
try to reinstate account following directions (or lack of) in the goodbye email, no luck.
try to sign in (having validated my cell# and email address), no luck.
that's too bad, really, i was really excited about grabbing some legit, trustworthy apps for my n82. maybe i'll try it again in a couple of months...
(also worth noting, their layout isn't that great. the website would often forget the format that i was browsing apps in, ie list vs thumbnail view)

"It is in so called 'quote marks' because it is a quotation."
please go on, i'd like to learn more about how these "quotes" work. are you required to put 'quote marks' when you type "'quote marks'"?

Hopefully it wont have to reboot after every new incident report.
am i the only one getting tired of these lame "look at how clever i am bashing big bad microsoft" pot shots?
seriously, have a little dignity and self-respect. treat other people like they actually use their brains (even if you don't).
uhh, exactly how clean are we talking?
very clever, sir. that enticed more than a mere chuckle from this one.

yes, the only question now, is, which of you ass-holes is volunteering?
