In reading the response, my takeaway was 1) The Obama Administration agrees with the ideas in the petition. and 2) This is the fault of the Librarian of Congress who can legally make this call.
This is followed by some vague talk of how they "support a range of approaches to addressing this issue" and how other agencies (FCC, Congress, mobile providers) should consider doing something about it. Oh yeah, I'm just holding my breath to see the action commence!
I propose we split it down the middle and agree they're stealing it for a (hopefully) limited time. Beyond that we should probably just agree to disagree.
By this argument locking your car is also worthless, because a determined thief can always break a window, right?
Given the level of technical ability this individual appears to have exhibited a MAC whitelist probably wouldn't help. OTOH, it would probably work just fine shutting out a wardriver or any non-tech-oriented neighborhood mooch.
Generally you don't have to be impregnable (if there even is such a thing), just more difficult to hack than your neighbor.
Let's think about this. They're looking at expanding an anti-child porn blacklist to include animal porn and "violent" porn. Unless they're referring to young animals or violence against kids, this is no longer a child porn issue. At this point it's just a matter of a block being put in place because the subject matter offends someone using the umbrella of "think of the children". Never seen that one before!
As freelance IT, it's the best way for a customer to reach me with an immediate problem. Outgoing, it saves me a huge amount of time taking care of business (with a headset) while I'm driving to/from clients. It's an excellent way to coordinate with your team when you're on site and have to work together while in different parts of a building. It's a vitally important tool I use to make my living.
Not having a forum vs. having the forum but not providing meaningful responses / discussion is effectively the same thing. If making your voice heard in this way simply results in some PR hack glossing over your points and restating the current policy on a given subject, there's really not much point in participating in the forum in the first place. You may well be better off wandering around randomly in public shouting your views or maybe finding the nearest free speech zone where you can go get it out of your system.
I remember seeing a flat loaded for delivery at a Sams Club once on the way in. On top of everything was this huge styrene foam / saran wrap thing of hamburger. A little over an hour I walked out past it still sitting there right next to the heaters by the doors. Pretty much killed any enthusiasm I had for that good idea right there.
Second this! Use Calibre and you can bulk edit book metadata then automagically retrieve book covers and descriptions before sending it off to your reader. Reads tons of formats as well. Not affiliated with them, just use it personally.
I've run the gamut of various linux distros and am currently transitioning off an OS X server for home. I've come to realize that just because I CAN do something doesn't mean that's the best solution. I've hooked up external drives to a Mac Mini (win7 / Media Browser) that drives our main TV. Shared my media folders to the network and mapped those to libraries on Windows, shares in the dock on the Mac. Why windows for a file server? 1) I own the TV machine already. Broken down by cost, it takes a LOT of electricity to equal the cost of a NAS+drives. 2) it never turns off and 3) windows clients get all bitchy when they can't find the windows indexing service on the share and you try to mount to a library. Setup is as easy as right click on the folder and choose "share with...specific people...". Backups done via SyncToy to an external disk give you fair redundancy (backup) and let you take your entire movie/music/picture store with you off the network. I don't have an android but for IOS I'd strongly recommend filebrowser to stream movies and music over your local network.
Ok, you need to come down off whatever you're on just a bit. We're talking about taking a pistol (semiautomatic, fires a bullet each time you pull the trigger) against a rifle (semiautomatic, fires a bullet each time you pull the trigger). Even if the misinformation you're spouting had a basis in fact, I'd still choose a pistol (of any type) against someone shooting at me with anything. A slim chance of survival is still better than none. The media is slanting this in a most disgusting manner, if you're going to play at being informed I'd suggest you try discovering the facts first.
Meanwhile, we're throwing away $ 40 billion every month "until the economy improves". For me, that puts many things in perspective. If we're going to flush money down the toilet, this seems like a much more potentially constructive way to do it.
I'm running Fusion 5.0.1 with the same setup (only 57.6 gig on the desktop tho) on a laptop, so 2.5' platter drive. Not seeing that CPU issue but getting lots of slowdowns when both OSes hit the drive at the same time. If you install MenuMeters it will be invaluable in seeing what your mac is doing when it grinds to a halt and at least give you a fighting chance to diagnose the problem.
No product is perfect, think of AV as kind of like locking your car. If you have glass windows, that lock won't stop someone who really wants in. I think its strength lies in the fact that it's so unobtrusive. You'll rarely see it turned off because nobody even knows the thing's there in the first place. It doesn't inform you when it's updating or pop up to tell you you're protected and never tries to scare the end user with dire warnings about being unprotected unless they pony up $$$ for a subscription. The best AV in the world isn't worth much when turned off or otherwise disabled. If you want to be thorough, slap MB on there and you'll probably be fine.
When I was much younger, I had a truck with a second deep cycle battery in the back. Wiring went from the hot side of the alternator to a battery isolator (think two big diodes) so when running both batteries charged, but they couldn't draw off each other. I could run the deep cycle battery completely dead and not affect the starter battery at all. Once I even trickle charged the starter battery from the deep cycle and effectively jump started myself by jumping the isolator terminals.
There's probably more practical ways of doing it for a once-off but if this was a regular occurrance a large secondary deep cycle (or trolling) battery hooked to a cooler set to a moderate temperature may fit the bill.
I don't know what the availability is in that geographical region, but about 1/4lb (or less) of dry ice wrapped a few times in a towel and stuck in an insulated (lunch) bag would probably do the trick nicely. Maybe use a rubber band to make sure it doesn't unravel and deep freeze an LCD or something. The temps will stay low and there's no water involved...
On the local machine it works fine, but if you're not using a windows server and searching a network share that isn't synched for offline use it fails. This is because it queries the Windows indexing service on the remote server. Should you be running a SMB share off a Linux box or OSX Server, you're pretty much out of luck. If anyone reading this has found a workaround for this, please do share!

I can only assume you're not over 6' tall. If you were you would know better than to say that.

I went on Amazon and dropped $15 on a noname IR remote, works beautifully. Are you sure you've given this a proper chance?
All the effort to design this beautiful device and I totally don't see how it'll ever fit...

There's a post in the comments on the bottom, says it's from a "Palestinian bomb factory". Way to go Daily News!

Not all Amish should be characterized as a "wet blanket" unless you have a good reason.
Point the camera at your adult kid's family portrait photo. Issue solved.
Some people don't recognize a joke even when it smacks them in the face like a wet fish... smack smack!
Admit it, you made those words up didn't you?

Hands down. Lent it to a friend of mine and his only comment when giving it back was "Why would you ever want to read something so depressing?"
