Is the Scroll Ball really a Ball? And if so, how would you clean it - it's not like you could hold it (like you can a track wheel) - or is it self cleaning?
Instead of magnetic pieces, why not miniatures with RFID tags that can be sensed by a sensor network on the table, hook in some software to expose what is and isn't seen on the map based on that information, reduce some of the computer work required by the GM..?
Are there low cost 2D RFID sensor networks that would allow for something like this idea?
My powerbook had it's motherboard replaced at one point (the video display was dead, both on the inbuilt display plus the video outs) - and when it came back, whatever stores the serial number wasn't updated with the powerbook's serial number - it just displays as blank (from memory) in the System Profiler.
The serial number is normally somewhere printed on the powerbook (on a label/sticker) - on mine, it's inside the battery compartment - not exactly convenient, but it is there.
Just about any USB mouse will work on a Mac, so if you have an existing USB multi button mouse on a PC, try it and you may find it works fine (and the Mac will allow to set the right button to do contextual menus etc).
Talking of Indiana Jones and Noah's Ark, wasn't their a fake/hoax script floating about for Indiana Jones 4 featuring Noah's Ark?...some googling later... Indiana Jones and the Sons of Darkness: http://www.indyfan.com/articles/sod.html
The script isn't easy to find anymore - it seems that Lucasfilm don't want it around...
Presumably the Applecare records are shared globally for apple portables - since they have the International Warranty - if the warranty law is better in California (for example) - could better service be obtained by flying oneself and one's powerbook to the US?
If I show up with my powerbook in the US, will I get better treatment at a Genius Bar than I've seen down under?
Laser Squad... was an Amiga game (amongst others) written before X-Com was it not?...was it by the X-Com developers? It certainly bore a lot of similarites - turn based, humans vs AI/Aliens...

I have a feeling that I've seen it officially stated somewhere that Blue and White G3's with DVD drives and hardware decoding don't have DVD playback under 10.2.
For me, that's a perfectly good reason not to run OS X.

I've been to performances (typically music concerts) where the ticket has has small print regarding the prohibition of cameras, recording devices etc. I've always presumed that those caught with them get bounced by the security personnel...
It strikes me that the venues could ban cellphones in a similar way. Have a cellphone with you that you've left on and somebody rings you on? Fine, meet the bouncers - Mr XXY and Mr XXXY, who will now proceed to take you and your cellphone outside so you can take your call. Want to go back in again? Sir, didn't you read the smallprint on your ticket/ticket holder?
If someone needs a book to commit a crime - why borrow it from a library or buy it from a book store? Most Library systems are fairly good at preventing book theft - but there's bound to be a way with even the best to steal books (in the Library I work in, it's called opening a window and chucking the book to a friend waiting below in the evening when our staffing is *real* low).
If Library's keep track of patron usage of the collection, then any *good* criminal/terrorist or whatever would be stupid to use their own details - they'd just steal the book, steal someone else's borrower card etc.
Which leaves the question - how does the government having access to the patron usage information help to catch anyone who is really good at what they're doing - you're only going to catch the amateurs who don't think about data shadow...
>Why don't you delete it as soon as the book is returned?
Because damage to a book is not necessarily noticed when it's returned? Imagine the situation where that happens - someone cuts out pages 31 & 32 (this happens - and it *really* upsets librarians) - something which the average library assistant scanning returned books isn't going to notice. If you don't have a record of which patron id has has the book recently, you can't do anything... Having 30 days means you can at least watch for patterns of book damage - and maybe catch those responsible.

Maybe if I make this a reply to the original message it'll get noticed.
"it was Dave Arneson that wrote many of the early adventure modules, particularly the B and X series."
Based on the authors on the covers of those "early adventure" modules - this isn't true.
There's plenty of sites online - such as www.acaeum.com with listings which detail the authors - Dave's name is not amongst them.
B1 - In Search of the Unknown - Author: Mike Carr
...
That's according to the cover whose jpg I'm looking at.
Looking around the web, I can't find any proof for the claim that Dave wrote many of the B and X series:
http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/ModPages/B.html has details on the B Series, http://www.acaeum.com/DDIndexes/ModPages/X.html has information on the X series - and I don't see Dave's name anywhere
Variation on your premise.
