I am gonna go way, WAY out on a limb here and say "No".

No major company would willingly piss off this many people and customers without carefully considering how it would affect them (Not if it plans on remaining a major company).

They probably have estimates of how many lawsuits are likely, their probability of success, how many donuts they are gonna eat during the trials...

That said, SHOULD they change their mind? I think that forcing your customers into one path tends to piss them off, especially if your forcing them into a path that is extremely profitable for you (AKA MS Vendor lockin).

It might work in the short run, but it could damage Amazon's brand name.

However, with the changes of making IE8 much closer to standards (Won't accept this till it is out) I am in an interesting position.

If Windows 7 allows competitors the knowledge needed to integrate with the OS, and treats user programs the same as Window's supported programs (Like WMP and IE), I will renounce half the things I said about the company.

It will take a lot to make me a MS fan though.

Sure. Fair use allows small portions of copywritten works to be made into other products, as long as it doesn't take the form of the original product, and doesn't damage the value of the original product. The original products in this case was an audio only song (Multiple versions I assume), music videos staring Prince (again, probably several), etc. The new product can NOT be confused with the original (You don't see price, and honestly I can't even understand the words in the song the baby is listening to). Also, the video is very obviously focused on a baby, NOT the music. This product is therefor a fair use of the copy written work. At least, until our society makes it illegal to use any copy written item for anything, at which point public creativity will stop, or society will revolt. (Think of how many songs were based off of tunes of other works, how many pictures look 'simular', how many movies have simular plots, etc)

And as for the case thing, I have seen some cases scratch up a disc MORE than leaving it on a desk... although that is rare.

I do not want to loose a viable option just because some users never have a problem.

This will get worse if this passes. Next we will need to create a version of the site that can print using a brail printer and get mailed to your house if you think about our site in english, spanish, french, etc. People don't want reasonable accomodation, they want accomodation for them... most don't care about the other users. Since everyone WONT be happy, shouldn't we try to make the majority? Otherwise, we will never produce ANYTHING online, cause we will never finish it.
