    All the money needed to rebuild more houses below sea level will be directly charged to my taxes. So I'm already "donating".

    Lets all call our congress critters and tell them to help the people, but NOT help rebuild New Orleans.

    You should only get an insurance payout from the government once, then it's permanently placed on a list of places that are on a flood plain and you can never get insurance there again. Problem permanently solved.

    Every US middle-class taxpayer will be chipping in about $10 per 1 billion in damages for people too stupid to live above sea level. Yes, I said stupid.

    Maybe the iPhone will actually work as a PHONE, unlike any other phone on the market. "HI MO.., YEA I'M USE.. MY ..ELL PHONE, HOW ..AN YOU TELL"...

    Of course, if Motorola already had this miracle-grade technology, they would be using it already, so the odds of the iPhone working as a phone is 0%.

    100 songs is about 10 hours worth. I agree, this is not nearly enough for people that go on 6 month trips to Antarctica.

    But for the rest of us mortals, 10 hours is way more then enough songs between when we leave home in the morning, and come home at night and plug the thing back in again.

    I've recently been to a theater after not going for a long time, I guess I needed a reminder why I never go. This is what happened...

    1. 30 minutes of commercials.
    2. Talking idiots
    3. Cell phones ringing every 5 minutes.
    4. Air conditioning set at "cryogenic"

    So screw em, I'll stay home and if I want to see a movie, I'll goto the library and checkout the DVD for free.

    That all the movies are now remakes/ripoffs of movies from 20 years ago doesn't help either.

    How long until the entire American economy is based on people convincing other poeple to buy cheap stuff made elsewhere at a huge markup for the brand that they believe will bring them happiness/money/love/sex?

    Almost everything I buy is the generic, the exact same product made by the same people in the same plant, but at 1/4 the price because a brand isn't printed on it. This way, almost all my money is going to the slaveowners in Asia that made the stuff for 2 cents an hour, instead of an ad agency.

    Yea, it has been a long time since Americans took education seriously enough to invent stuff. Bush says teaching intelligent design will fix that problem ;)

    No doubt about that. If you just added up all the time I put into the Win2003 box fixing fans, other hardware, patches, and all the other stuff that goes with using windows, the extra $$$ is more then worth it. Setup and reinstall is measured in days.

    I've had a iMac G3, and now an iBook G4, and I think I've spent a grand total of 30 seconds (inserting OS CDs and walking away) maintaining and had one crash in 3 years, and that one was my fault.

    Have people learned nothing from the matrix? The only thing worth a damn when you really need it is a LAND LINE.

    That part at least was non-fiction. I can always tell when I'm talking to someone on a cellphone because I can't. They get cut off, distorted, delayed, or just can't make the call at all.

    Phones have joined the world of email - now you have to leave voicemail which may not work, send email because you never know if that works, then just drag your butt to their office to ask if they got one of the above. So you may as well just skip the phone and emails.

    Welcome to the future, nothing works.

    Again, this is why people like it. It nukes the network in order to get you every last KB/sec so you can watch your content ASAP.

    Back in my day, we set up the zmodem and woke up the next morning with files.

    The TCP/UDP change wouldn't solve anything, and wuold only make the NAT/firewalls issues parger.

    But the problem everyone has, and why we get 1k/sec torrents from them here, isn't that torrents suck until somthing is popular, it's that 1 or 2 users with 100+++ TCP streams each can consume all available bandwidth at the company/campus/etc.

    Of course, that's also exactly why it's so popular and people like it.

    Movies are just BIG, and since the torrent protocol is lets face it, about as hostile as you could design to any other traffic, it's always going to be packet shaped/blocked/filtered.

    Still, gotta love free as in not paid for :)

    Doesn't China already have a home grown router based on stolen Cisco tech that's just as good? (for those out of the loop, yes)

    So why in the world are they even talking to Cisco, which makes something at 10x the cost, except to trick them into adding features they will never buy anyway.

    Yes, plenty of people, but all the JOBS are in India, since both HP and IBM have admitted that's what they are doing. So laoffs here really dont matter at all.

    Talent goes where the stock is rising. As soon as Googl'es stock bursts, they will have trouble hiring too.
