Shows only about 60 Million net receptors (rods+cones) in the human eye. Only 1/20 is for color, and almost none are for blue. So unless it's gonna be printed on the side of a building (which you view from far away) you only need a few megapixels for your little 4x5" prints.
The VC's are drooling, the press is desperate for a story, the big companies are all pitching the exact same technology claiming how new and shiney it is...
This is OLD technology folks. Try the 1970s. Yes, really.
Hear that sound? It's money being flushed down a dot-com toilet.:)
This is all about the taxes, and accounting. Options were great because they were paid for by investors, not the company. That's changing soon.
Now they need ways to pay non-salary money, that comes from nowhere - print more stock!. And they may as well do things that keep you around longer as they do it. Luckily, printing more stock still doesn't cost the company any money, it's from the current investors that get diluted.
It's getting really hard to pay your workers with other peoples money!

There is really no need for this. Eventually you need to "grow up" and "get a job" at which time you will no longer play these types of games more then an hour or 2 a day.
Yea, sad thing is if they couldnt take their HQ elsewhere, the taxes are so high here they would just move EVERYTHING. SO be glad they can do this otherwise Wall Street would flatline their stock.
OK, a quick look here for some hard numbers: Count and density of human retinal photoreceptors.

Of course, that wont stop anyone...
Because that's way to obvious to anyone with a second grade education ;)
Everyone admits (now) that RSS was a really stupid protocol even as protocols go.
Oh, and the timestamp thing adds far less processing overhead then the reduction of packets would save.
Learning and multitasking have never mixed well.
Multitasking also doesnt mix well with research, creativity, or anything really worth doing well for that matter.
This article is about databases, why are you talking about MySQL... stay on topic please.
How long until they raise the retirement age to 980?

2.5 Mil should buy a decent one too
Now why can't Americans try to stay ahead of the Chinese too?

So we all know dialup became unprofitable years ago...
:)
Does this mean broadband is no better thanks to all the competition?

Paid beta is a PERMANENT condition in MMORPGs.

You should nkow that by now
and.. it's as far as you can get from Quebec!
I wonder how the Fold@Home total CPU power compare to this in terms of percentage?
Folding@home has almost 3x the FLOPS, but we're all on the same side here. Slightly different problems can be tackled when you have local bandwidth.
Also keep in mind that Folding@home is not one project, but dozens of projects sharing the same CPU pool.
Years to go before we figure out how folding really happens...
You're surprised there is more money in the spam and spyware then the anti of them?
Wake up. There is orders of magnitude more money on the advertising and blackmarket side.

Remember to hack your local Diebold machine to make ALL the votes your way :)
Hack the vote!
Up in Minnesota, all voting is done on paper, with nice clear #2 pencil style forms.
So will all of Slashdot's advertisers be getting this 2 FP story treatment? Maybe some of revenue sharing?
Poeple here should understand this... Americans don't actually MAKE anything anymore. Nothing, nada. You can't buy Made in the USA if you try!
So enforcing IP laws are all that stand between _ALL_ of us geeks and unemployment.

Taxes have to pay for that deficit ya know.
Attack one of the slashdot sponsors like that!
Did they pay extra for the story links?
And Folding@home is actually _doing_ (as in the results take that many to compute, not some machines*N crap) 196+ TFLOPS.
:)
I win
Yea, that was supposed to be a joke. A joke son, a joke.
Actually, most "players" online are now bots.
So you really have no chance. pun intended.
