    Work experience in engineering fields is a GOOD thing. Use it.

    You have forgotten almost everything that was useless in the real world. So your comprehensive/qual exams will kick your ass to put it bluntly, plan to study.

    You will have NO social life, unless you're already married, in which case you will have no life at all. You simply will not have the time.

    Living on the cheap is fine, educational loans are at record low rates, and will be trivial to pay back once the dollar crashes and hyperinflation hits.

    I saw alot of posts about partying or dating undergrads. I have some swamp land in Florida for sale...

    Most importantly - If you're doing this becasue you think the job market will be better when you get out - forget it unless you're Chinese. Your well paying job in India is already gone, and companies are already looking at African outsourcing because the Chinese are getting too pricey to compete with open source.

    Well you see, over here we have loopholes. Deductions and things.

    It means anyone with any real money, brains, or just a compitent accountant, doesn't have to pay any taxes at all. It's a great system, and it works.

    Your system is all "fair" and we don't take kindly to that over here in the USA.

    Any of them yet? I didn't add the ultra critical "plays on mom's 50$ DVD player" because I'm sure none of them will do that.

    There is no point at all encoding anything unless the above are all true.

    That's absurd, noone can read Cisco source code.

    Correct, that's the only way out of the GPL, rewrite anything not done by the forking team. Not fun, and a non-optimal use of everyones time, but it is a USE of time, which is often the point.

    Stop being so mean! It's not PHP's fault they can't run in a thread model. Threads have only been commonplace for 25 years, and the standard way you do things for 15.

    They just need some time to catch up. Apache 2.x is light years faster/leaner/meaner then 1.x was. Oh, and PHP runs perfectly fine under 2.x, as others have pointed out.

    OK, so yea, it's actually kinda sad (read: pathetic)

    No, glibc was just one of dozens of libraries I could have used as an example. Not to mention the 39 flavors of installers/packaging systems out there, etc.

    Writing an application to work reliably under all variations is not a slam-dunk.

    Solution: Python, Perl, ANSI C, etc. i.e. don't code "for Linux" at all, just code. Of all the ports I've done, Linux is always the biggest pain in the arse, due to the joyous work of glibc, and of course Redhat's need to do everything their own way.

    You heard it here first, Apple will invent the iPhone, the first phone in the world to work as ... a PHONE!

    Because ya sure as heck can't but a phone now, sure a PDA, or a camera, or any of that, but nothing that you can use to talk to people with for more then 15 seconds at a time, with a battery that lasts more then 30 minutes before the thing superheats and burns your hand.

    They will sell exactly ONE of them, to me, since I'm the only one on the planet that wants such a rediculous product!

    Not sure for _who_, but it's great.

    I can see some people having huge use for this, drug dealers, chat room stalkers, and of course all communications between an executive and their broker ;) Any place you need to be able to say "I didn't say that" later - where woulkd that be except a courtroom???

    I can't think of any good reason for _me_ to use it tho. Maybe I'm just not shadey enough.
