Honestly, in this industry it is more important to get things done than for them to be good.

The people who get to be the "idea people" have toiled years (if not decades) among the various disciplines in the industry. You need to prove that you can get something completed. And then you have to prove that you can get something good completed. And then... maybe... someone will buy into some idea that you have.

But really, most of the creative types in the industry are working their asses off so that one day they can make their "one great game idea." I don't see them giving that up to others who are trying to take a short cut and/or don't know anything about development.

"As violent videogames have become more popular in the United States and elsewhere, violent crime rates among youths and adults in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Japan, and most other industrialized nations have plummeted to lows not seen since the 1960s." - Texas A&M International University researchers Christopher Ferguson and John Kilburn

The fact that this game has been given a lower rating than what I think any reasonable person (gamer or not) would think it should have just goes to serve Atkinson (the one politician in AUS standing in the way of an R18+ rating) more ammunition. He and other ignorant politicians will point to it saying things like "see how violent our MA15+ are? Imagine what it'd be like if we had a R18+. We'd have games like Rapeplay!"

The point of ratings is not to stop kids from playing games that are inappropriate for them. The point of ratings are for PARENTS so that they can be properly informed about what a game contains, so that THEY can stop their kids from playing them. Misinforming parents by giving an incorrect rating to a game is not serving ANYBODY.

Why am I qualified to say that Aliens vs Predator deserves a higher rating than MA15+? Firstly, I've worked on a number of ESRB M(17+) games. Secondly, (NSFW) http://kotaku.com/5428934/does-australia-have-a-point
