and they do not even have any upgrade process, forcing us to either move to subscription, or abandon and create new version that few see, nor like, far from seamless nor user-friendly.
We did Mac Software since 2004/5 when Apple was nearly bankrupt. The AppStore only help new competitors who wanted quick money, and Apple takes the extra 30% from us when we already run a web server, and software update for a decade longer. Even dos not allow us to link to our 14-day free trial, refunds money immediately without even getting any customer feedback what was wrong etc. And they change automatic review each months: "reject because of old xcode version", "rejected because invalid binary", "rejected because no xyz screenshot", "rejected because this API function is deprecated",... and sometimes uploads get just stuck or hang in the automatic binary processing scan process. Without the AppStore we did not had any of those nightmares, total waste of extra time and pain.
That we even discuss this. The feature is there to flush all the write caches. When you "eject / safely remove" after copying hundreds of MB or even GBs worth of data this "eject" will usually even take a while until all the write caches are actually written to the medium. Where do you think the data goes when you just pull it out? Yeah, right, straight into the/nowhere/ nirvana,... This article / discussion is living proof that humankind becomes more stupid.
is that they are HUGE,..! A big maintenance effort, more lingering bugs, bigger attach surface, plenty of possibilities to hide nasty things. Containers are a much smaller thing to take a look in and review, keep updated etc.
Issues like this, the keyboard, lack of ports, sd card slot, overpriced, usually outdated, and they are even internally hiding the iGPU on dedicated GPU models form OtherOS, so they consume more battery: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
Unfortunately the only thing the Trump pseudo president baby can babble is "but the Refugees" destroy Europe:-/ I have to say, things are pretty good here in Berlin, Germany, Europe. Actually I avoid traveling to the USA for all the crime, shootings, TSA and such,... Instead I now travel more in Europe, France, Spain, Czech, Poland, and all the other nice neighbours we got. Together we are stronger!
I have been on Macs for the last decade, I gave up, macOS at this point is just crippled abondoneware. Also their non standard vendor lock-in hackery is going too far. Even the iGPU is hidden behind "secret" EFI magic now: https://www.youtube.com/watch?... Guess how much my new AMD Ryzen build screams, 12 TB + SSD cache Linux server, f*ck yeah: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
I have two decades worth of Macs and display, actually I do not need anything better than my 2015 15" Retina MacBook Pro or my similarly old 24" Dell 4K UltraSharp. Spending that much money to a vendor locked in product for a display that you rarely see a difference and makes every day work tasks less optimal (incompatible colorspace documents and receded 8-bit per colour channel effective sRGB dynamic range) does not make too much sense. https://rene.rebe.de/2014-01-2...
Has Michael that good/. contacts to get so many minor patch news reported every other week!?? In other news, FLAC now decodes ~5% faster on my Sgi Octane w/ Linux: https://www.youtube.com/watch?...
I was not talking micro transactions. our Apps cost 19, 29, 79, 99 $. Even for 99cent your example comes up with nearly the same value as Apple, and PayPal has some micro transaction tier that might be more attractive.
Apple and the AppStore are doing zero marketing, actually instead they now want more money for their integrated app promotion ad business. Developers have to do their own marketing, Actually AppStore visible became worse, with all the repetitive junk and scamware overloading it anyway:-/
we have to run our own servers anyway, still do, any happily so. much more pleasant to deal with than apple's notorious monthly changes, ABI validation, forcing new xcode version, outages, hiccups, missing binaries, you name it. We otherwise mainly use PayPal which takes a maximum of ~6%, usually less ~3% (depending on country, and money source, e.g. CC vs. PayPal balance, etc, )
many Apps, especially on iOS are not that "quality", and also assuming software was already sold before, Apple managed to snitch in an extra 30% of all software sales, effectively taking from what developer would have earned anyway. Plus preventing some Apps, competition, as well as still not having a clear update path, except creating a new v2 app, or charging for subscription,...
After writing an entire application stack in Obj-C / Cocoa (ExactScan, OCRKit,...) we will not continue using Apple only technology. To much vendor lock in, too much extra work porting and sharing code with other platforms. Yes, Swift may be partially vendor neutral, however all the Cocoa / AppKit / UIKit et al. APIs do not help, and Swift is otherwise not too native on Linux and Windows.

the benchmark is skewed due APFS copy'n write cache etc., ... anyways.
