You gave me a good idea, how about issue passwords on a credit card size card that also has direct access to your payroll. THAT WAY you have the NEED to protect it and prevent other people from seeing/gaining access to it! Sure, you can still have direct access, but it'll go through a holding phase on that card!
Why doesn't anyone mention the banks by name? Chase.com leaves cookies in this manner. I've also called security into question with sprint.com and their CSR's over the phone. Why do I have to give my "login password" when we have a separate account password? Why would I give them the password to my account so they could go login from home and gain full access to my accounts? After many years, they finally changed this. But it was ridiculous when they asked.
I don't know about the CookieCuller, but the idea is that keeping a cookie to identify YOU is a bad thing, especially when it comes to YOUR bank account. The best thing would be to have no cookies so no one else could look into it or steal it.
i reply because I like your name, I like the band and I do the same. I actually was very weary of one news provider, The Christian Science Monitor - because with a name like that, how could they NOT be skewed right? Well, I took a chance one day just to check it out and sure enough, it was good reporting. So I did some investigating, and what people told the woman who started it sure enough still affects them. But like she said, the content will overcome that problem. So I look out for preferred sources of news as well as those as I try to avoid.
I like to tell this story because #1 It's really about giving other ideas a chance - in this case it was worth finding out that the name does not make the company. #2 Maybe someday someone will remember this and give a company a chance and be greatly satisfied with their product - such as Hans-G who is now known as Hans Spree?
You know how I explain this to non-technical people who ask me about anti virus and protection?
I say: well, think of computers like a lock. It could be a lock to your house, car or garage. Just because someone doesn't have the key doesn't mean they can't get in.
I go on in detail about sneaking in, brute force and other much more elaborate ways of doing it. But even then they think 1 program they heard about can protect their computer. It really comes down to what my buddy Billy used to say "What do I care? I got nothing people want to steal besides my porn. And hell, I give that away for free anyways..."
But that's the point, the extremely low number of exploits compared to other OS'. But once again, the question of usability comes into play. Are you willing to work within the restricted work space or do you want to run wild like Windows 98?
I don't see any manipulation unless these companies were making an a lot of money over the manufacturing cost of the sets...
Technology improves and most of the time the new technology costs more money to implement.
People need jobs and something to work on, so they spend their time improving the technology. I hardly doubt it's some grand conspiracy.
Actually, they're not all gone. If you ever visit Can Cun, you can still find the indigenous people who speak nahualt (sp?). We came across a couple who bussed tables in a restaurant many years ago (20 years at this point). You can "tell" who they are because they stick out like a sore thumb. It's really awesome that they're still around. If you take the time to research the subject, you'll find that many eh, "professors" search these people out to help understand the things they find about them. So from an archeological perspective, they're very valuable as they can help translate things that just confuse the heck out of everyone - such as the "end of the calendar" which some indigenous people say "is not the end of the world, just the end of the cycle."
Guatemala actually has quiet a bit of info but because of many reasons (government structure/lack of care) they are buried and degrading in the jungle. Very sad to have that happen and lose more info about some very interesting people!
See, many years ago, before a little coffee shop turned into this machination of "good coffee," they had wondered into the lands of Coatepec, Veracruz, Mexico. And while there they tasted some of the most "premium" coffee in the world. You see, Coatepec has very unique attributes which lend itself to growing coffee. Thus they produce(d) some of the worlds "best" coffee.
So while Starbucks was there and liking what they tasted, they were also in many other places trying "premium" coffee. So they ended up getting their supply from elsewhere. Now if you know anything about Mexico, their Pyramids and Gods, you'll know that they're not something to be taken lightly! So of course, Coatepec means something like the snake from the hill/mountain.... And thus they're now taking their revenge on Starbucks for not buying their coffee!*
I actually spent some time there and I found out about this and was like o rly? And sure enough they showed me the "gifts" they had received from star bucks, a company from some placed called Seattle. It was actually pretty cool because they were still in their original packaging and branded with starbucks logos! So that's how I know about 1/2 the of the story. The other half I just cobbled up from what the general public believes to be true!
* Maybe about 1/2 of this story is 80% accurate - no guarantees
They gave up on trying to make ninja's of their own (since they can only make cheap imitation knockoff's) so they just said forget the ninja part! Let's just make all of our forces invisible!
Now excuse me, I have to get back to forwarding Bill's email I got to 20 people so have I have a chance at the million dollar prize.
Wow you're lucky! In Mexico, Bill Gates was about to close down hotmail.mx but thanks to everyone forwarding that e-mail MS saw that people used it and prevented its closure! Too bad they didn't have a chance at that prize...
Yep I've gotten the same exact thing several times before spamming them entirely. I started asking around if anyone had requested me to join and it turns out only 1 close friend is signed up on it! So no one I really care about (that I know of) is on it. And you're right, they're helping the spammers spam, that's the worst part!
Read most of those posts and it's scary if true. I understand the need to have secrecy and protect information... but it still sucks as it seems to be more of put the fear in your employees by making an example of someone rather than threatening alone.
+1! I run a mix of FreeBSD, windows7 and an xp here and there.
I have an HTPC with remote which serves as the base. I load almost all media to that. Then if we're in the room or where ever, through wireless G i watch xvid/divx quality video. No issues, no lags nothing. Now if you want to run blueray or 720/1080 res, that might be a different story. But then you got more serious problems than storage and networking (GPU/CPU).
I love that series because that is how life could be some day and more than likely will be some day!
Here are some things it covers:
Augmented brains - These give normal (natural) humans an "E-Brain" which allows them many digital advances.
Artificial appendages - For get that old peg leg pirate, that plastic manikin arm, or even that special Olympics bouncy leg/ankle/foot thingy! In the future we'll have straight out robocop style arms and legs!
Last but not least - implants! Oh yeah, not the sexy time, but the able to hack into other people's eyes and see what they're seeing implants! Yeah, get your eye balls replaced with artificial ones that have zoom built in! How about some that have different type's of filters? Such as infra red, just like the predator has! Finally, you'll have the people who'll have jammers, so make sure you don't get that cheap chinese stuff!
As mentioned above, the black market is/will be huge for this sort of thing, so you could very well get what you pay for, something they take into consideration in GITS... you get cheap shit, people with better equipment (govt/military) can hack/disrupt/nullify your devices (eyes, arms, body etc).
I totally see this happening. Who wouldn't want to have an e-brain? You can now store all your files in you! No worry about needing to remember things, just go diving around in your e-brain! But you better have a good firewall set up because you don't want to get hacked to mess yourself at the holiday party...
It'll take a long time but it will help life be a lot better. I would guess that it could possibly help some people like my grandma who's 93 (2 days ago!) and has Alzheimer's. Maybe it could have given her 15-20 years of life more worth living than not knowing who anyone is except at random moments in time. One can only hope right?
No no no, you've got it all wrong! The future of space battles are hull warfare! Land your ships and breach that hull! I easily see shields being produced for both energy type and traditional weapons.
Hey, do you have that CD i let you borrow? Oh, you ruined it? Big scratch huh? No, i can't replace it, you see it's the rare New Order Remix blue edition. Yeah, that one, the one that has the confusion pump remix. Yup, from Blade. No, it wasn't on the Blade sountrack disc. But ok, it was expensive but maybe I can find it someday in a used cd store.... if they only allowed us to sell used CDs:(
So how many deaths are we at this year? What would you say if your company made that many "mistakes?" Not knocking them, it's a hard job, no doubt about it. But we're not talking about the CO or NCO's in the field, we're talking about the people who 1) program/develop for those in the field and possibly 2) the grunts who control the drones (not the smartest bunch).
I think you hit the head on the nail with that comment, "perpetuating the cycle." It's very sad that they're more than likely to continue what has been done to them. But then again, they could become reps and senators and pass bills that protect themselves...
44 years is several lifetime's too short in my book.

here! here! I agree. I mean, just look at ATI and NVIDIA, they both make high end graphics cards that are extremely expensive because of TECHNOLOGY! And, of course, I mean, they wouldn't collude to fix prices right!? http://arstechnica.com/hardware/news/2008/07/new-documents-could-show-evidence-of-nvidia-ati-price-fixing.ars

You apparently believe in "the school system." Have YOUR counselors ever HELPED YOU OUT? :P

Well yeah, IT IS THAT BAD and i couldn't bring myself to watch it again lol
My ISP caps me at 100GB a month! NO WAY I could do 32 a day!!!!!!!!!
