I would say that being skeptical of what THEY say shouldn't be because of financial interests, but rather because of misinformation.

How many people really research anything they hear? We're on a technical site talking about things that interest us. But people who watch news or read news don't really care about learning more in depth what they are reading about. So, it's good enough for the ignorant masses.

But news isn't meant to go into depth anyways. I don't know how it is in other parts of the world, but in the US, no one cares! And if they explained too much people wouldn't watch the news. That's why they go something like this:

I think that if you didn't make it, you didn't make it and it's time for something else. Sure it doesn't sound nice, but we could make it work.

Also, for those of you who think elections is the only way to go, let me tell you about a story of my state capital. Assistants to congressmen had "better" (closer) parking spots than newly elected congressmen. The reason is because their congressman was a SR. member, and thus had more power. And that is the real problem, people who have been entrenched for so long that they have a nice network that can deal with everything and anything.

Like NASA, until you get rid of all the people who've been there way too long who keep the bad traditions, you can never really get it to serv the people.

But that doesn't mean things will get better. When Arnold took over as Gov for california, he "changed/improved" workmans compensation. The problem with that, is that he saved companies tons of money, insurance companies tons of money, heck saved money all over the place! But the people who needed the money, like those who hurt their backs, legs or shoulders, had to lose everything because they only got 15%, when before Arnold they could have gotten 50-75%.

So i'm not so sure i want random people like in greek society (although their entire college wasn't random citizens), and i'm not sure i want open ended term limits. I want people who want to make it a career, and like in the corporate world, work a few years at one place and try to move up. The last time I payed as debit was an optometrist.
You know that's funny that you mention optometrist, I just got my new shades and i paid visa, credit! Although i learned that it is a burden on businesses, i don't feel so bad. I learned about their fee's for running credit when my mom had a salon. I was like "what a scam!" But, on the other hand, they do mark up their products at least TWICE as much as they pay for, so i don't feel so bad anymore. And besides, whats like, .35 cents to anyone now a days?

Well, since i picked up my shades today, the lens was loose. I was worried it could fall off while on my motorcycle. So after work i took them in. They "fixed" them and gave them back. The girl said "it might be a little loose, but not to worry about it." SO i asked, so can i wear these on my bike? She went to fix them again. 10 mins later, she stripped the screw. Well, please remember that i worked in a bank many years ago, and lots of things have changed. Direct deposit was still fairly new then. That being said, i really don't know what that regulation is unless i read it, and even then i might understand it correctly. From friends experiences they have a card time getting credit back. Unlike Coke, Ford or even "rolleblades" who could actually sue others for using names that are easily and instantly recognizable, "buy it now" is not something someone should be able to patent, trademark or copy write. I included rollerblades because that is a company, not the actual name for "inline skates."

Anyhow, the dummy law would only be able to be used (abused) under certain restrictions. Any time the dummy law was used and approved in judgment -- regardless of in who's favor, it would go to an appeals committee to verify the authenticity of the judgment/matter and checking for abuse. Those using it for abuse are similarly punishable as for purgery.

Some say thats stupid! But i say it's great (could be). those bad guys who get off because the cops said something they shouldn't have, or did something, or forgot to say something no longer go free. For too long have bad guys gotten away. Right now we have a politician who gets a presidential parden and doesn't have to say anything else because of white house integrity and security matters. Bring in the dummy law! There is no executive power that can prohibit the testimony because it is a matter that requires the truth and nothing holding it back.

Like i said, this has great potential for abuse, which is why it has a built in appeals committee, or maybe it should be called a review board. Everyone is held responsible for the judgment and the punishment for any abuse harsh! But this also has great potential to save many people from inappropriate judgments. I didn't come across a lot of posts from /.'s who've worked in financial institutions. So, let me clear some things up. Forgive me if the exact details are off but it's been almost 10 years since i worked on the customer service side.

    - Any large cash transaction needs to be reported. I believe the amount is $10,000. You can deposit checks that are larger than this amount, and they do not need to be reported. There should be no way around this, even if you make 2 separate deposits at two different times on the same business day. A total $10,000/min limit exists for this report. And for those of you wondering, this isn't an uncommon event in a bank that works with businesses primarily.

    - All money is accounted for, and double checked. So if you "deposit" more money than you were supposed to, its actually really easy to find out who's it is at the end of the day. Believe it or not, it is also easy when the CSR is short to find out who owes the money. Once the error is found, it is fixed immediately by debiting or crediting your account.

    - There is nothing you can't do in a bank. If you have a check to deposit, and they want to put a 1 part or multiple part hold, don't be afraid to ask them to release more of the money right away or sooner. Oh wait that has nothing to do with this, but is still helpful. Always talk calmly and don't get upset!! The bank can almost always help you out.

    - Accepting deposits has never been a problem, and even though bank of america sucks, and might require some form of ID, if i recall correctly, as long as they get "A" form of id, they'll take the deposit. I have done this for a friend many years ago, and they took my drivers license as the ID.

    - Withdrawing money is a different story all together. When i worked on the CSR side, we were required to contact the customers home branch and request a fax of their signature card. That card is exactly what it sounds like, a card with their signature, but with a date and a bit of other useless info. The customer always has to sign a withdrawal slip or a check to cash on the spot, so you have proof of their signature. You compare that signature to the signature cards and if it's a match or close enough, they get their cash. When customers change their signature, and this is admitted on their behalf, then they are given a chance to write out their old signature. If the signature was close, then we'd look at the other info on the card to try to prove that it really is the account owner.

    - With cards having magnetic stripes now, this is much safer, as long as no one has your PIN. But the signature above part is still important in case the ATM eats your card or it's lost/stolen. So make sure you take care when signing for a new bank account.

    - ATMs are stocked with a LOT of cash at some point of the day, sometimes multiple times. Although i never really got to get a GOOD look at the machines, i was assured by everyone and the techs who went out to service them that "they don't make mistakes." Now, check my signature

    - When an ATM dispenses money and it doesn't add up when the machines are checked, you pull up the records of it's transactions. And like i said before, and difference is easily found. In the cases that i've been aware of where large sums of money were paid out once or repeatedly, their cameras have come into play to help identify the end user. Regardless, the card holder is responsible. If the card was stolen, used and an extra $3,000 paid out, the account holder is responsible. That is why you MUST call and report your lost/stolen card immediately!

    - If you are even short changed at an ATM, make sure to report it immediately to the branch if they are operating under normal business hours. If they are closed, call it in immediately and find out what you are required to do. Under normal circumstances you will get your money either through credit to your account or cash on the spot.

I'm running away quickly! When they raise the rubber guns i won't be first in line for the firing squad -- i'll be running away. Now if i'm still around to get beat, well i'm just stupid hahaha -- for the most part anyways.

But what if i'm "temporarily blinded?" What if i can't get up and run away because i don't know which way is away? What if my instincts take over and my body starts running but runs into them? Now the law enforcement officers might think i'm trying to attack them, and now i get shot in the face!

That actually is the least of my concerns. My real concern with not being able to see is what other people around me will do. Surely people will panic, try to run and do it over anyone who has fallen. Haven't any of you seen video of people getting trampled? If on may 1st they had use these lights, imagine how many more people would have gotten shot and beaten simply because they couldn't get up and run away.

And the whole idea of "use this on terrorists" or whatever is ridiculous! You will then proceed to fill out the complaint form, submit any proof you have and then that's pretty much it (as long as you have a legit complaint of fraud).

On the other hand you have Master Card. Their process goes like this: you call and make a complain of fraud, they send you a letter. You submit any proof of fraud you have. They "go over the details and verify them." Once they are satisfied, they will reimburse you. This could take months.

My experience has always been great with Visa and online merchants. Only twice in the last 7-8 years i've been buying a lot off of ebay and web stores have i needed to call fraud, both with visa and instant credit to my accounts.

Once have i had to claim fraud with my master card, when a town car didn't take me to the air port. I was picked up on my return flight, but i was still charged for pickup and delivery (2 trips). The car didn't show up because the driver crashed on the way to my pad, it was raining that day. So i had a taxi take me to LAX. Although the company said this, master card refused to cover my charges.

Point of the story is, visa is better for fraud on your account, and master card is the worst. As you can imagine, i shortly after closed my account with MC.
