  2. Re:$5.98 on Amazon Rolls Out Release-Day Game Delivery · · Score: 1

The stupid part is, whenever I do searches between amounts, I generally only want items up to at the very worst 80% of the amount. So in your example I would be looking from 100,000 to 200,000 (200,000 to 250,000 would be at the bottom and wouldn't even be looked at). Therefor I would never care or consider the 249,999 house. Whereas if I was searching for 250,000 to 500,000. That 249,999 would be first on my list, and more likely I would jump at the chance of buying it.

On the note related to the people buying cars, that just amazes me. Unless I was lied to by the salesman, and/or he mumbled the remaining 950, I cannot see that working. I just wish I saw more companies that deal with *.00 (raise it a penny, I don't care) that way I could tell they aren't trying to outsmart people, but there's few out there.

It's best seeing things priced at like $999.99, as if anyone is stupid enough to think $900. Ask any person on the street how much it is, and they will all equate it to $1000 even. This marketing scheme may have been clever 30+ years ago, but now it's just tradition and actually makes me think they're (the advertisers) are stupid for thinking they can trick me, thus LESS likely to buy it (especially anything marked with 5 9s).

Not to mention seeing 5 digits vs 4 digits makes me think it costs more than just $1000 so I'm more likely to avoid it as well. Guess that's what I like about most games' economy (I'm talking in game, not real world), they mark EVEN prices, none of this translate in your head stuff.

  8. Said it before... on Are IT Security Professionals Less Happy? · · Score: 1

I've said it before and I'll say it again, being a pessimist isn't a bad thing.

When you expect the worse, you can enjoy the good. Having a birthday? Expect crappy gifts? Well, when you get something good you can be happy, appreciative, thankful, and surprised in life. Still got crappy gifts? So what, you expected it, no surprise, no unhappiness.

Whereas being an optimistic, you're expecting a new car in every box... let me tell know how happy you are when it isn't what you expected. You could try being optimistic about that too, and say at least it wasn't a cobra in the box.

I think most pessimists don't understand the enjoyment of being one, sure you may need to learn to have a care-free attitude, but optimists have one as well. If the glass is half empty, so what? That means you have GOALS in life, and you are more likely to be productive and achieve those goals. If it's half full? You are happy with life and couldn't care if you had more.

If you can't have enough faith in humanity to throw a lan party because you fear for all the items that could be stolen, accidents that could happen, insurances, law suits... Your attitude to life sucks.

I guess its pre-emptive pessimism (new word?), because your attitude in life doesn't currently suck, if somebody steal a $2000 system your attitude WILL suck.

But I personally find that outlook on life better: Go to a party expecting it to suck, when you are surprised and happy with the entertainment. You got more than you expected and a nice surprise. Expect a present to have coal in it, now you can be appreciative and happy when its a new video card for your PC. Didn't get what you want? So what, you knew it was gonna suck right, you can't be unhappy.

Sure I played Diablo 2 in single player (pirated), but I bought it afterwards when I wanted to play co-op and with friends online.

Multiplayer - offer a free single player game, or free version with limited amount of multiplayer features (ie: no extra maps/areas, cut the allowed items to less than half)
