I didn't realize slashdot would turn into a debate on religion vs science, but I'm game:
The only problem is that you get to make that choice only once, here on earth, with imperfect knowledge Do you know god? How can I make a choice about someone I do not know. That's almost like picking a future spouse based on what you've been told by someone who met him/her.
If it turns out there's no God, you've lived a good life, the people around you will thank you for it, and you can go to dust in peace. If there is a God, you'll end up in heaven instead of the other place. So you are saying, pretend to believe in God for a win win solution.
No offense to religious people, but I don't think god created us just to worship him every Saturday (or however you are told). Just like how you don't create your child to worship/idolize you every weekend otherwise they don't get to go to "heaven"/"hell" (disneyland, etc. whatever) when they finish growing up.
There might be a God, but religion takes things too far. I would love to discuss religion, but people tend to get shorted out too quickly, but if you wish to discuss further drop me a line.
Technically google would only show a link, and chances are it won't be #1 (meaning no redirection even via "I'm feeling lucky").
To be honest, I for one PREFER this type of information, knowing all competition before making my choice.
Last week I was looking for an SQL solution, and typing in some of the more "famous" names led me to a better solution (free) that wasn't the one I originally searched for.
This is what search engines are for, displaying information related to a query, it shouldn't say "this is a competitor, I can't show you this".
The game is violent, who cares about the drinking involved. Hell Team Fortress 2 has a drunken demoman shooting people, is this perceived okay because he isn't driving?
Shooting people = okay
Drunk = okay
Driving over people when NOT drunk = okay
Drunk + driving = a problem?
So... FUD right?
Yes, of course, because Ubuntu's web site promises that the distro "will always be free of charge, including enterprise releases and security updates.
If knowing the salary was a big issue for someone in the first place, I don't think the person would even have the money for the subscription...
Kind of like selling homes to homeless people. You can make up your own car analogy.
No kidding, when will the government stop posing it's morals on it's own people?
Accept the fact that people are DIFFERENT, and if it doesn't affect you (or the majority of others) in a forceful way, then stay out of the way.
Disclaimer: I personally don't have any of these images, nor do I care if others have them. Whatever you prefer and enjoy is fine by me as long as I'm not forced into it.
Question:
I found it underwhelming - I mean, instead of an interesting exhibition on some of the capabilities of UAVs and how significantly they are changing the tactical landscape, it was just a few UAVs hanging at one end of the hall. (shrug). Answer:
Not sure how new this is, we were there well over a month ago and it was already there. That seemed pretty easy:P
The astronauts also put out a request for new ideas for space sports. Have any suggestions? How about watersports? I hear those are growing in popularity.
The bigger question is: Why did we post the address of the exploit sites?
Wouldn't it have been better just to say "nmid*.com" or link to a list somewhere else instead of advertising the address on a front page (for free too)?
We can't assume everyone who visits slashdot knows not to type it in their browser, but curiosity can be overwhelming.
Not to mention, these were thought intensive tasks they were testing. This has nothing to do with second nature tasks (driving, playing a game, etc.) where sometimes you don't even realize what you are doing. I bet this device would go crazy with activities like that.
Then you have missed the entire point:
My "argument" is what is worse for a child? Seeing how the GP is arguing that when did pedophilia become a crime.
This morning while walking in to work, I saw a parent smoking around her (5-7? yr old?) child while holding the child's hand (so, right next to it).
That's right, how often she does this I do not know, but think about it. How much worse is smoking around a child than touching a child? It's normal for parents to touch their children in certain areas while bathing them, but the second the parent somehow gets a "joy" out of it, its criminal.
Yet, comparing the two offenses (hell looking a child and getting a "joy" out of it is criminal in itself nowadays) which hurts the child more?
I'm not against smoking, and I'm not for child abuse/ponography, but I AM for EQUALITY, therefor I am only making an observation to an equation for you to solve.

Agreed, to be honest,
Since when is looking a bad thing?
If it's such a big deal then where's little Billy's parents?
Funny how we seem to keep trying to repress nature (sure the model may not be "natural" but that's another debate)
I thought the same, but now that's been publicized, it's only a matter of time before you get audio captchas that you can't even decipher.
The RIAA motto: "What can we do wrong now..."

More like an etch and sketch, or quite possibly, E-Paper?
Agreed, not to mention, we can now hopefully view which cables NOT to cut on our next fishing expeditions.

/. is being an awfully depressed and pessimistic bunch today. Well, it is about 5pm in some parts of the US, and it is TuesdayAppropriate tags:

You are attempting to bypass all the security on this system:

Lawl?
Agreed:
We discovered the theory of mathematics, but we also invented the numbering system to apply this theory.
passphrase? Singular? That's easy: its probably sex69 or something.

I didn't even think HTML had versions. When did HTML 2 even come out?!
Despite going against the flow of karma. I agree
