FYI: We have a "Constitution" for the purpose of protecting MINORITY rights. Our founders rightly understood that the majority (ie people that think like yourself) rule can/will eventually unjustly strip the minority of their rights with out protection. It is protection of the minority rights that the constitution provides. Hence the reason we can all still own guns despite the fact the majority of the Americans would like to curtail that right. Authoritarian government is not necessary.

  3. Except for... on The DHS's Latest Investment: Terahertz Laser Scanners · · Score: 5, Insightful

Go and work in your garden with fertilizer and get some on your shoes or hat. Maybe your person. Next take a trip to your lovely TSA scanner and see if they let you on the plane:) The problem is the molecules they scan for are all over the place. There would be far more false positives than they would be willing to handle. If I remember correctly they where testing for nitriles by wiping with a cloth. So many people tested positive they finally gave up. Of course they have probably forgotten about that.

  4. Missing the point on The $100 Masters Degree From Udacity · · Score: 1

It really isn't about the cost totaly. His point is that going to school, mastering some aspect of a field and going about your way for the rest of your life isn't working anymore. We constantly have to re-invent ourselves with new skills because things change so rapidly. Udacity will aid in solving that problem and make it cost effective.

I have a foscam wireless camera that will upload to an ftp server of your choice. It was inexpensive (~$60 on amazon). Can be set to take an image on some time interval. You can then collect the images into a movie for that day ( use 'convert' from Imagemagick).

What is the problem here? Even if your tablet doesn't have the distractions your phone does or the computer you are using. Or the guy next to you. If you are that easily distracted then you probably aren't really focused or it is a bad read. It isn't the tablet's fault. This is another one of those I don't like tablets kvetches.

Why on earth would it take a year to learn to code? This isn't like becoming a surgeon or politician. It might take a couple of months to really type well but come on. I train someone in a matter of weeks to do as well as a Stanford or Berkeley CS Grad. Bottom line people skills are what really matter in programming. There is one very import skill however. You really need to be able to answer a ridiculous question in a phone screen. That is a true test of a great programmer and any Google employee can tell you that.
