Only in Vista x64, as far as I'm aware. Vista 64-bit is kind of a non-issue... it's a niche product of a niche product (much as I love Vista, most people don't...). That's just my opinion, anyways.
Er... huh? I'd rather like to believe that my Athlon 64 could run a 64-bit OS. And surely an Opteron or an Itanium could run a 64-bit OS. Granted those two aren't mainstream processors, but... what about the Athlon 64? That's AMD's bread-and-butter these days, is it not? I'm fairly positive that it can run a 64-bit OS, so... your statement leaves me scratching my head, when a mainstream processor can do what you said it can't do.
Who the fuck has been moderating this thread? The original post got marked funny for some ungodly reason, even though it seemed to me to be a serious attempt at discussion, and now this one? This post is a joke in the same sense that rape is a joke: it's not a joke! At all!
I normally respect the work of the slashdot moderators, but come on guys, you can do a lot better than this.
Yeah, it's true. New Super Mario Bros was like a breath of fresh air for me, I haven't played a Mario game I liked since Super Mario World (I recognize the popularity of SM64, but I just think Mario should not be in 3-D. Ever.). Maybe the success of that game will lead to more 2-D platformers, here's hoping!
I think this doesn't really apply, unless Sega bills the game as being a proper Sonic game. This is rather akin to when Nintendo made Super Mario RPG, imo. The important thing to remember is that Sonic is a setting as much as it is a game, and using that setting in a different style of game doesn't violate the originals at all.
You are not going to be browsing... a porn site on your iPhone, are you? Heh heh heh... don't underestimate the allure of porn that you can touch to interact with it!
And finally, there is Stallman himself, who is so dogmatic and, above all, impolite that he's actually been known not to speak to people unless they use his preferred term. I seriously, seriously hope you're kidding. Please tell me you're kidding.
If not, I hereby have lost all respect I may have ever had for that man. That's just unacceptable behavior, no matter how much of a genius/pioneer/visionary/leader/whatever you are.
Online access costs money
False. The only thing you can't do without paying for XBL gold is play with other people (oh, and see the Gears of War trailer before Silver members). Granted, that's a major thing, but there's plenty of other stuff that's simply included by owning a 360. Patch downloads, demo downloads, trailers, XBLA, video and music downloads. Lose one point (I'd score it two for being flat-out false like your remote control claim, but online play is a big reason to be online, and you do have to pay for it).
The rest of your post is quite good, but this is pure bullshit. For a console, playing games is the online access. I don't give a damn how much stuff you let me do for free, up to and including curing cancer, but if I have to pay to play games, your online service is terrible. Period. (imnsho, of course, I don't wish to sound like I think my opinion is objective fact)
I do. I personally think the older auto designs look atrocious. I just took a quick look on wikipedia for pictures, and the 2003 corvette looks light-years better than the 60s models, or even the 58 model. Same for the 2006 models they have pictured. I won't compare a 2007 mustang to older models, because I don't like the new design at all, but the early 2000s mustangs they have pictures of on wikipedia look, again, much much better than their older counterparts.
This doesn't invalidate your opinion at all, but I hope you don't seriously think that it's impossible to like newer designs over older ones. Beauty has been shown time and time again to be a highly subjective thing, for cars as much as for anything else (hell, I'm sure there's someone out there who will insist that the Model T is the very definition of elegance and grace).
So all in all, I'd go with the "disagree" option you presented.:)
However, not password protecting doesn't mean you have intent to distribute. It could just mean you're that lazy. Is it likely? Probably not. Is it possible? Very much so, which means (imho) that the court's decision should reflect that.
If you didn't like it, fine. I loved it, it's the best FPS I've ever touched, bar none (even the supposed greats, like HL 1/2 don't come anywhere close).
I disagree. We really didn't hear much about Halo 2's single-player before it was released, they guarded it much more closely than multiplayer. Just because Bungie isn't telling us about the single-player doesn't mean they aren't committed to it, Halo 1/2 had amazing single player experiences, and I fully expect Bungie is working hard to make sure Halo 3 lives up to its pedigree.
The first part of your idea (closed source, no copyright protection) is an astoundingly bad idea. That would make it so that no one, ever, would ever have closed source software. That may be your intent, of course, but that's a dumb idea. There's nothing wrong with closed source by itself, no reason we should eradicate it. It is a person's right, if they so choose, to not share their ideas with the public. It is also their right, if they so choose, to not let people have a copy without paying them--if they want to be compensated for their work, it's their right.
Personally, I agree with the poster further up. Software patents should be very limited, giving the owner a 1- or 2-year span to be the sole beneficiary of their innovation, but after that, it's no longer innovative... software is a fast-paced market, after all, and at that point the patent needs to expire.
It's not a matter of understanding or not understanding. I've heard the reasons for it, and find them quite unconvincing, even though I understand what they're saying perfectly well. IMNSHO, there is no acceptable reasoning for sticking with a one-button mouse. But I don't use Apple computers, so it doesn't affect me.
I really wish that Mac users would stop bringing this up, because it has nothing to do with the joke. I recall being told that Mac OS had support for multiple buttons since version 9, but that doesn't change the fact that we all know it supports multiple buttons. The joke is that Apple so stubbornly insisted on shipping with a one-button mouse for many years (and hell, even their two-button mouse sucks according to those I know who've used it). That is the point the GP was using as a dig at Apple.
That's elitism on your part, then. Linux is still a niche market, from everything I've seen (I think it's even smaller than Mac, but could be wrong on that point). Windows is the platform of choice if you want to reach the vast majority of your potential users, it's just how it is. Is it good to support more than one platform? Absolutely. Does supporting only Windows mean you aren't "a serious contender"? Absolutely not.
They're not all easter eggs. One of the items, for example, is pointing out the inherent weirdness of cross-dressing in FF7, instead of just--y'know--using your 7-foot sword to bust up the bad guys who've taken Tifa.
Did you happen to skip FFX? Because Tidus and Wicca are the two most annoying characters in the entire series. Vaan can be accused of being bland but he's not outright whiny and over emoting like Tidus or as outright stupid as Wicca. a) It's Wakka.
b) That, like any other statement you can make about FF games, is a matter of sheer opinion. I like Tidus, I think he starts off rather whiny but shapes up by the end of the game. I think Steiner, in FFIX, and Brother, in FFX/X-2, are by far the most annoying FF chars ever. *shudder*
As a freethinking Atheist I feel all religions should be banned globally. The quicker religions are banned, the quicker we will achieve peace globally. I don't know what definition of "free" you use, but that's not very "free" thinking in my book (or most people's books, for that matter). A truly enlightened man would wish to educate those he feels need it, not try to snuff out their way of thinking with force.

I can't agree more with this. I'm planning on buying music I already have, just to send the message to EMI that I appreciate what they're doing.

Maybe he doesn't have an account. For the longest time I didn't have an account because I posted once in a blue moon, so I just posted AC.

When the hell did we get off into developer land? The entire discussion thus far has seemed to me to be about the user's experience.
Define "native". I ran my Intellimouse Optical on XP just fine, although for all I know the multi-button support was in the driver, not the OS.

Why do you say the lockpicking minigame was torture? I loved it.

Because anyone who has ever read Slashdot for a non-insignificant amount of time knows what response they'd get from the Slashdot crowd.
