Yes, I know the odds of Obama declaring himself a muslim are low...
But there's always that haunting feeling in your head. I believe him when he speaks, I know he's an honest man. But even honest men can have a change of heart... Still, I have to admit it's not really relevant in the end, because I don't even think he could do any damage, and if he tried to he'd get the boot.
Right, warning, I know I'm going to karma hell, I don't care at this point. I can't vote in these elections, namely because I turn 18 just after the US elections, and because I'm in Canada... But from what I've gathered over this year, I've drawn up my own opinion on this mess. Feel free to correct me if I've got some wrong information.
McCain's only real problem is his age, and the whole "we're staying even if it takes 10 years" stance on the Iraq war... Had this been 10 years ago he would have been a fine candidate, but now I don't know, I'm very afraid he's going to go senile in his second or third year.
Clinton... I think she has a chance of being a good president. Her only weakeness is the healthcare bill. Otherwise I think she'd be perfect for this sort of situation, bonus points if she can pull it off like her hubby did (say what you will, but the US was at its greatest in the 90s). And I mean plenty of women have done an excellent job at leading their countries; Angela Merkel is doing wonderfully in Germany, Thatcher they say was good (I'm too young to remember her well)... Pretty much only Kim in Canada was a bad choice, but she wasn't elected.
Obama... He scares me. I don't know. He's a bit unprepared; I think he'd be perfect in 4-8 years time, he'd be ready to storm the scene. I'm going to get modded down to the bottoms of hell for this... But I'm afraid in two/three years he'll declare himself a muslim. His step-dad is one, and he was raised for the most part in Indonesia and went to some of the schools where they train Al Qaeda members... That's a serious chill for me, not only because uh let's just say we don't get along back home, but because of the fact that muslims seem to be getting quite... Aggressive around the world. Namely in places like France. I mean, it's not all muslims, but could you imagine how mad the press would go?? It'd be like Putin declaring he's a Lutheran and a German...
I don't know. Maybe I've just lost my mind. Or I'm too used to canadian politics where at this moment nobody really cares who's running the government and we're mostly satisfied with the conservatives... I guess the cold keeps us apathetic.
Any idea where to buy LED "bulbs" that can drop-in replace incandescent bulbs, then?
Even if it costs 10$ a bulb I'd consider it and probably change all my bulbs to them. Decades of use out of a 10$ bulb beats the cheapo 1$ bulbs any day of the week.
I don't even download music, I don't even buy any.
Hell the only recent "music" I have is my uncle's (SamSly) latest music CD. That's it. Everything else is radio. (I'd go internet radio but I have a bandwidth cap...)
And damn them if they think they're going to charge me for something I don't use.
Since we have the "source" for both the Niagara and the T2, couldn't you just get a fab company or something to build you one? And how difficult would it be to cut down the Niagara to be able to do this?
And how much would you charge to build one of these?;P
Really. The Wii is being pumped out at 1.8 million units a month, but so is the DS, and the GBA is still selling in/some/ quantities (speaking of which, where do you find GBA games? I can't find anymore). Nintendo can't bring up production of the Wii without killing the DS and vice-versa, so they're just going to have to keep going at 1.8million/month until the new factory is finished, and even then it'll be mostly split.
So Nintendo has only Nintendo to blame for manufacturing limits. They didn't expect the DS to catch on like this.
VIA used to sell a 4-socket C3 motherboard. A local store still has a few.
And since each C3 would consume only about 4-7W (depends on model) that's a grand maximum of 28W, probably idling at around 4W. It was intented for servers, but I don't think it sold very well. Still, it was a great idea.
Well, IANARI*, but I was reading an article on Highly Hon. Mr. Chretien's "memoires", where he mentioned that if he wasn't busy being stabbed in the back by Paul Martin (yes you read that right) Canada could have made it into the Kyoto Protocol's upper limits. (IE, just barely making it) But of course, Chretien was more or less forced to move his focus elsewhere, Mr. Martin effectively pushed him out, they abandonned the Protocol, and then Harper was sworn in by a bunch of morons, so he just couldn't bring up the balls to stick with it for a few more years than normal (IE: Goal at 2018 rather than 2012) so he dropped it officially.
Of course, we've got a bit less room to work with than in Europe. Canada's huge, cities are mostly horizontal. Except in Toronto, and possibly Ottawa, public transportation is just not that great nor ideal. And then there's the heating issue. (Doesn't get very cold in France.) Of course, I bet a TGV from Halifax to Windsor would kill most emissions. =)
Behold, the fool saith, "Put not all thine eggs in the one basket" - which is but a manner of saying, "Scatter your money and your attention"; but the wise man saith, "Put all your eggs in the one basket and - WATCH THAT BASKET."
Tried and true. You might think that having one safe is a risk, but I can carry one safe out of a burning house. Can't do that when I've got a copy in Ottawa, one in New York, and another in Zurich.
If only you could mod someone "+100 Truly Insightful" once a year, I'd do that for parent. The Chinese deserve one hell of a drop-kick to the face right now, letting one magnificient species go extinct. From what I can recall, the Baiji river dolphin is unique.
But let's just pray there's still a large community hiding somewhere...
What if MS put its money where its mouth is, cut off all the old shitty "Works formats", and let it export to ODF? Or would that be too drastic? I mean, OEMs don't really care about selling copies of Office (IIRC, doesn't get them any money unless it's a trial) but giving customers something to STFU would be beneficial...
I'm glad they're giving it away for free. Ads, not so much, but it kicks IE-preinstallation-methods's ass.
Smokers, have your cigarettes and die, but goddamn you all if you think you can walk around and poison us all.
The worst thing is coming out of a shopping centre, or a large store. Smokers everywhere right outside. What the fuck? How is that doing any good? I once saw someone doing that infront of a children's hospital! What the hell?! No one wants to smell your fumes!
4GiB is good enough too for/, as long as you put/home on a 1/2GiB SD card or something; it's only 14$ Canadian for 1GiB SD card, and I know a store in New York that has 2GiB SD cards for something like 20$, "trusted" vendors too, like Kingston and Crucial. My current desktop has like 10GiB for/, but I only use like 6GiB (With a lot of useless programs sitting around, stuff like OO.o, FrostWire, wine, etc. aren't necessary on a subnotebook) and I could easily drive it down to less. The SD card doesn't stick out either, so it's like it's non-existant, and you could use it on other PCs to transfer data quicker.
The only issue with getting one of these would be trying to turn off the OS's logs, if that's even possible...
1GiB card, 14$. But a 2GiB is something like 30$-40$. Futureshop/BestBuy, as horrible as they are, had a pack of 2 2GiB SD cards + 1 4GiB one for like 79$ once... But 2GiB is good enough, I'm still doing fine with that much assigned to my PC's/home.
Maybe it's just like a prototype and they'll change the keys in the final runs?
That said, remove the windows keys, or printing penguins would be great; they would even print like a styled "K" or the Gnome foot, or maybe just a Xandros-style X. (Poor choice by the way ASUS, Debian, Xubuntu 6.06.1, or heck even Freespire would have been much better)
- How could you get another OS on it? Could you just boot from USB?... Will they set up the BIOS to allow it?... - Can you set hard drives as read-only, or possibly stop log files of all sorts from being produced?... - What about putting/home on a USB drive? Good idea, awful idea? IMHO, the only problem would be if someone comes and yanks it out... But some, like the one by PQI on Newegg, are extremely small.
I never really understood how having the menubars at the top is logical...
Not trolling, I'd just like to know "Why?". Maybe I'm just used to the "Windows-way" (Though I'm using Xubuntu now) but I'd think having all your menu bars attached to the windows they belong to would help; constantly reaching for the top of the screen doesn't look very fun...

The Home Depots in Ottawa-Gatineau all have CFL recycling "bins", but I don't know about WalMart...
To be honest, CFL is a lot like LCD: Not worth it, there's better stuff just round the corner. (LEDs & OLEDs + SED.)
I don't even download music, I don't even buy any.

I get to have something invented over the weekend??
GNU Hurd!

;P
And how much would you charge to build one of these?
Yes, but what happens to my lowly Pentium 2s?
Do you honestly think everyone's going to dump their old PCs to the curb?
(As sad as it is, I know plenty of people do this, but not geeks.)
The DS.

(*I Am not Remotely Intelligent)
A lot of GUIs are shit. MSN Messenger, AIM, WMP11, IE.
Should we go around and copy their UIs?
Well, Chaps (Or whatever it's called, men's clothing) remained good, maybe even "better", depending on your view.
But Chaps is one in a million.
If you were being serious, tried Gnumeric?
Behold, the fool saith, "Put not all thine eggs in the one basket" - which is but a manner of saying, "Scatter your money and your attention"; but the wise man saith, "Put all your eggs in the one basket and - WATCH THAT BASKET."

I didn't notice that. Changes a lot, then. SD cards are extremely innexpensive.

A couple things that sprung to my mind:

I'd definately buy one. Looks freaking awesome.
Everyone knows BSD is dead. Netcraft confirmed it!
