oh - so, by your logic, if I have a demo that I don't think people will watch, I can advertise it as "naked pictures of your mom" - of course, it's not _literally_ naked pictures of your mom - I'm just using it because I can't find any other term which would make people sit through the whole demo - naked pictures of your mom, btw, are ultra-sleek

  3. Re:Another perspective on the closure on The Last Will and Testament of Circuit City · · Score: 1

I can tell you exactly why. The short answer is that most people are dumb. I used to work in a music store (guitars, drums, etc - not a record store). Dudes would come in all the time because they wanted to buy something. It wasn't like "I need a new guitar." It was more like "I have some money and this place sells things." Dude would typically go into our PA area (sound systems, EQs, compressors, etc), find some rack piece with a certain price, then ask "what's this?" I'm serious. These dudes - mostly hispanic and hatian men - were primarily interested in the price and the discount. Functionality was a second thought. People flooded into that store because they thought they were going to get deals. Dude didn't need a new TV or a DVD player or a game system. He bought it because he thought he was getting a deal. It's fucking stupid if you ask me, but so are they.

  5. i'm glad to see this study on 45% of Dutch Media-Buying Population Are "Pirates" · · Score: 1

i buy a lot of CDs - on average, one a week for the past 6 years - I also download a lot of music - when I download something I like, I almost always buy it on CD (or sometimes LP) - when I dowload something I don't like, I delete it - if it's just OK, I may keep it around but probably rarely listen to it, since I tend to prefer music that I like (?)

I use downloads as a way to try new music on my own timetable - I don't listen to the radio or watch MTV (does MTV even still show videos?) so I really hear about things mostly through word of mouth

so, yeah, I download crap, but I also give a fuckton of money to the record companies and rarely listen to the stuff that I don't own on some physical format - sounds like a win for the record companies

I just don't get it ...

so I jumped over here to read the comments and no one posted about how awful the comic was - just about how awful the idea of the comic and/or microsoft was (is). did anyone else read it? it's really stupid
