  1. diebold! on Democrats Take House, Senate Undecided · · Score: 2, Insightful
    As probable-Speaker Pelosi said:

Despite the fact that it looks like the Democratic Party has demonstrated a strong resurgence, I urge the nation to withhold judgment. As we have noted constantly over the past few years, the electronic voting machines from untrustworthy companies like Diebold may seriously and fraudulently alter election results. I call upon the Justice Department to vigorously investigate the election outcome, to determine if Diebold and other conspiratorial companies gave us a victory that we did not deserve.

No, just kidding, of course she didn't say that. We all know there's only problems with voting machines when Republicans get elected.

    (shamelessly stolen from qando.net)

But seriously, while I generally support Republicans, the current batch has been almost entirely useless over the past several years, so perhaps this will serve as a wake-up call.

Considering Halo (and the whole XBox, really) was designed to appeal to people who had never played games before (as Penny Arcade put it once, the "drunken frat fuck"), and therefore thought things that had appeared in other games years before were suddenly "innovative", I don't think it would work out as a movie, since I think the market of "people who have never seen movies before" is rather limited.

  5. Re:great timing ;( on Visa Cuts Off AllOfMp3.com · · Score: 1

Um, not to point out the obvious or anything, but allofmp3 wasn't legal in the first place. To the artists (and yes, the record companies), it doesn't matter if you're buying stolen CDs out of the back of a van, giving your credit card number to shady Russians, or downloading free music from Bittorrent; they still get nothing anyway. So if you switch from one illegal method to another, I don't think they're going to be affected.

I don't know.. I agree with you mostly, but when I look at resumes I pretty much completely ignore whatever they've put down as their "goal" -- everyone knows the real goal is "to get your company to exchange your currency for my services", I don't really care if they're able to BS something else.

But whoever this new "kdawson" editor is is even worse than the old editors when it comes to selecting stories free of flamebait. I think he specifically seeks out the stories where the submitter added some stupid comment. (And if it's anti-Bush, all the better.) Probably helps keep up the page and ad views.

Man has Slashdot turned to crap. I usually hate when people post complaining about /. here, but I've been starting to agree with them. I suppose I could go to Digg more often instead, but at least /. sometimes has a reasonably good comments section on some articles. I've yet to see any sort of intelligent life over in the Digg comment section.

Can't wait for my offtopic mod! Or maybe a troll, or the coveted "overrated". If I'm really lucky, someone will go through my post history and mod other posts down too, which usually happens when I disagree that anything anti-Bush is automatically goodthink.

  22. Re:Not surprising on Wii Hardware To Be Profitable At Launch · · Score: 1

That's not very surprising, when they just announced an hour ago that they're going to pwn the UK for £180 on the thing, only £20 less than a 360 Core model.

For reference, the $250 you Americans will be paying equates to roughly £134.

Hahaha.. you said "360 Core model". Great joke.

But seriously, the UK price includes VAT, doesn't it? Which is 20% or so? So that brings the £134 up to around £160, plus the extra importing costs and such.. so maybe you're still getting pwned, but not quite as much as it might seem at first. Most people in the US will have to pay more than $250 any due to sales taxes, which for some reason we don't include in the price. (Makes much more sense in the UK and other European countries; don't ask me why tax is never included here... well, on a national level it's because sales taxes are different across the country, but even when you walk into a store you won't see the full price until they ring you up at the register.)

Besides, the Japanese are paying the equivalent of $220 or so. So you're really getting pwned compared to them.
