Seven pass overwrite with ones or zeros, then open the drive up, easily done with a decent set of computer related tools and a decent metal file, hammer and small chisel (for the sometimes difficult to separate items). Then, separate the platters, put a platter in a vice, get a Dremel with a nice stone-like grinding tool, quickly grind to bare metal. Oh, and wear your safety glasses, just in case. I do this for all my old/defunct drives, got it down to a very quick and easy procedure.

Yeap, "make work" projects are not sustainable in regards to growth. The greatest economic stimulus package would be to cut taxes 50 percent across the boards, and reduce government spending by 60 percent or more. And, getting the hand of government out of most things it has had it hands in for the past 60 years (like no welfare, no social programs whatsoever, letting charities handle these things like they used to), no Fannie, no Freddie, no Community Re-investment Act, nothing. Clamp it the hell down. I mean, that's what individuals have to do, clamp it down. Individuals do not have the luxury of *raising taxes* like government does, which is and has been horribly abused over the past 60 years plus.

Last time I was there, they were filming Star Trek III, got to see the Enterprise in front of the blue screen after it had taken damage. And, they also had a miniature forest scene setup for the flying bicycle scene(s) in ET. The model and monster shop was also astounding, seeing the different molds, tools, partially completed and complete models and monsters.

I even saw the baby dragons from the movie Dragonslayer, which were designed and operated by my former brother in-law for that movie.

I am VP of Quality Control at a specialized computer-aided-design software house. The rule, from our CEO down, set in company policy is: If a user is confused, even in the slightest, about what to do with software or how to do a particular thing in it, it *is* a user interface error. Period.

We extensively alpha and beta test our software and the UI intuitiveness and ease-of-use have the same weight, quality control-wise, as what the software does. Bad UI getting to me as VP of Quality Control gets it sent back, with the Product Manager having to get it re-done, and as part of that, getting re-trained on the UI design policies that were missed or not applied to the program.

So, if I was in charge of quality control for these machines, the software and design of the UI would be sent back with instructions for them to re-work it and to test it thoroughly with a broad range of potential users (computer literate or not, old and young, etc.). It would only pass my checks with the raw UI testing data which I would have instructed them to do. I hold a very hard line on this particular thing, on the UI and design side of the software, as the company's reputation and use of its software by our customers is what butters our bread.

Years ago, in California, you could have both, and I did for this reason:

    1) If I lost my driver's license and only had it, I could not cash checks or do anything else (at the time) that required an ID.

    2) With lost driver's license, I could A) get to the DMV, show them my State ID and easily get the replacement driver's license stuff done. I did not have a copy of my birth certificate at the time, and the one time I actually needed the State ID (having lost my driver's license) it came in very handy.

However, current state I live in, you can have only one or the other, not both. But, I have a passport now and copy of birth certificate as backups in case of losing driver's license as an ID.
