It's graphics were too cartoony to even remotely interest me.
Been a long time EQ1 and now EQ2 player, would only check out "WoW" if Blizzard paid me a hefty chunk of cash to so. Since the possibility of that is nil, guess I won't be checking out "WoW".
"Fahrenheit 451" is one of my classic sci-fi favorites.
However, Ray also wrote "Dandelion Wine" (not sci-fi), which I read when I was pretty young. I could best sum it up as a story of a young boy that realizes he is alive and kind of marvels, at times, at the world around him. Great story!
I just invite them in, tell them I was getting ready to sit around the house in my underwear, smoke cigarettes and drink whiskey. They always turn a bit white, say "No thank you" and leave.
If any ever took me up on it, I would strip down to my skivvies, break out bottle of cheap whiskey, light up a cig and tell them "Well, get your clothes off, take a swig and start puffing!"
I taught myself on this route:
Learned HTML and then taught myself JavaScript (you code, load up the page, see the result almost instantly).
Taught myself the C programming language.
Starting some Java now.
JavaScript got my mind wrapped around variables, functions and the like.
For C, had to dig a bit deeper into how a computer works, great learning experience, used C Primer Plus book.
I actually tried to code some Java after JavaScript. That was a bit steep, needed some more programming basics, which learning C provided. Java is going much easier now with C under my belt.
I have also, since starting Java, dabbled a bit with C++ and will be learning it next.
Ding! Ding! Ding!
I have wanted this in Windows for a long long time!
I mean, I am pretty good at tweaking systems within an inch of their lives to kill resource hogging crap. Sometimes, it takes some research and some trial and error. It would be ideal to have something like a very advanced installer but also a way to save configurations out so, if you needed a particular setup for something (a setup also configured for minimal use of resources for another purpose), you could load that configuration (hopefully on the fly, but with one reboot, could live with that), then go about your business.
Well, When I was in grade school they wheeled TVs in on audio-visual carts, so we could watch moon launches, landings and capsule recoveries . These TVs had antennas, took their signals from the air waves! We didn't have cable, internet, portable nor cellular phones, hybrid vehicles, etc. Heck, we even did math before it became *new* math!
Oh, and gasoline, well, a little story about the late 1960's. We had three gas stations in the little SE Wyoming town I grew up in, when gas was 25 cents a gallon. They decided to have gas wars and, when it was all said and done, gas was 19.6 cents a gallon at all three. Those were the days!
Which, is why I stopped watching TV eight years ago.
Any news, information, etc. I get via the web, radio or, if I want movies, rent of buy DVDs.
When I had TV, basic cable, complete with the SCI FI channel, ESPN and similar, but only 78 channels, I was constantly saying "There is nothing on worth watching". With 600 plus channels now, I would just probably be saying that more often.
Yes, we have four or five with a CS background and experience that monitor, direct me on how to correct my work (when needed), etc.
This company has been around for 20 plus years now, lots of very experienced programmers around, including our CEO.
WTF are they thinking? Police ticket people for talking on their cell phones they are holding up to their heads. And, I know it is distracting, I was almost hit, twice, crossing a street, light with me, in the cross walk, by two people holding a cell phone to their heads, gabbing away, not paying attention to what the hell was going on with traffic, lights, etc.
All we need now is someone getting messages and other crap beamed into their heads while they are driving, operating heavy equipment, etc. and horrid accidents to follow. This crazy world has just got a bit more crazy.
Well, from the G8 viewpoint, you are missing the bigger picture.
By keeping "the masses" entertained *and* making them pay through the nose for that entertainment, "the masses* could not possibly have the time or wherewithal to do something effective to counter the outright wholesale removal and denial of their rights.
So, from the G8 point of view, all of this will help keep society stable running as the G8 intends.
Well, truth be told, I have heard of "WoW".
It's graphics were too cartoony to even remotely interest me.
Been a long time EQ1 and now EQ2 player, would only check out "WoW" if Blizzard paid me a hefty chunk of cash to so. Since the possibility of that is nil, guess I won't be checking out "WoW".
The gene that keeps giving wood. Yes!
Yeah, just a coincidence that the bullet hit him in the head. Certainly.
does it run Linux? Doh, wait! Never mind!
EverQuest 2 player: What is this "WoW" of which you speak? Is it an in-game crafted item or fabled drop off a raid zone mob?

Jerry will plug Vista? Like popping a cap in it's ass? THAT WOULD RULE!
Original variant:
Give a man a fire, he will be warm for a day.
Set a man on fire and he will be warm for the rest of his life.
Eurasia. MS$ has always been at war with Eurasia.
If I only had mod points, I would give them all to you.
I shot an entire Mikie D's hamburger outta my nose when I read your post!
WELL DONE!
Really?
If all Pystar did was edit some configuration or batch file equivalent files to get the software to boot, then, no code was modified.
Yes, text files would have been, but no source code would have been.
Work with dates?
Pfft, here at Slashdot, we'd be happy just to *have* a date, let alone work with one....

Seriously, what he said is spot on!
Old MSFT sales slogan:
Where do you want to go today?
New Auto-Windows slogan:
YOU'LL GO WHERE WE DAMN WELL TELL YOU TO GO!

Keep the three letter acronym, but just change the first letter...
SOL!
Heck, was already reading 50 plus books a year for many many years now.
So, I switched it up a bit, starting this last May, I started writing one.
I have had a bunch of book ideas running around in my head for some time now, finally just said, "Well dang it, get to work!" and did. :)

Now, shortly after this, they will be able to send you parking tickets, by cell phone. How convenient. :/
