First thing i'll say is this Violence is the last refuge of the incompetent. Most decent police officers would agree that using violence to exercise the power they wield is very much a last resort. To describe their role in such a simplistic manner is to describe their position in society more in the role of an occupying army, not a public service.
To publicise details of undercover officers in this manner is downright dangerous. to start linking people's addresses to their 'day jobs' is outrageous. DO NOT forget that police officers are citizens too
not correct. Apple are clearly using the same workaround until they can implement a better solution in Safari as well. Firefox and Safari are using the same API function, but neither should be really. nothing to see here, move along.
so are you saying that the politics section of slashdot is for US politics only? guess the countries that make up rest of the world don't have any political processes worthy of comment and analysis then:)
have you got a source for this information? care to cite your source? because unless there was something else illegal that he was doing that they could not nail him for, i cannot see the police wanting to bring this to trial
just out of interest, i thought the device itself would have wear levelling built into hardware rather than relying on a software driven filesystem to do it? The overhead of a software solution to maintaining a wear levelling filesystem directly on the hardware would get pretty noticeable imo.
partially true, but what supposedly caused the major problem afair was the technicians noticing the runaway chain reaction and dropping the control rods in a panic, which happen to have graphite tips (a pretty exclusively used moderator material). This caused a sudden and massive spike in reaction, and heat generation which was not removed because of the fact that the reactor was almost shut down. This caused the explosion.
the 'just doing my job' thing is the excuse of the morally vacuous. If people have to excuse themselves, or be excused, for 'just doing their job' then they're in the wrong career.
Because he is trying to build up a personality cult. It would appear Mr Putin has deigns on power greater than the Russian Presidency. And if he's trying to take his country where it looks like he's trying to take it, it'll all go tits up in a few decades time. ALL HAIL COMRADE LENIN^H^H^H^H^HSTALIN^H^H^H^H^HPUTIN (did you notice how they all end in 'in'???)
If you go to another country, you abide by their rules or you face punishment. The belief that "our" way is better than China's way is the same kind of thinking that got the US in the Iraq war. (Oh, look how wretched they are! We most go liberate them!) All countries have PR campaigns that try to keep the populace going a certain way, China just goes further.
err, ok, so it wasn't the oil now?
just because it was legal doesn't mean that it was moral. The cruiser was not a threat:o)
the carrier could be described as a threat, , but the cruiser could not. Theres no way you could equate the threat from the carrier with the (lack of viable) threat from the Belgrano.
calling me a tool without actually reading between the lines a little, or asking me for my viewpoint.
What an ass.
you sir, have made the ****wit list. the Scottish vote was not fixed since it, er, appears that all parties lost equal numbers of votes through rejected ballots. Hardly a fix.
(Although to be fair i think there could be a case for a reballot in all areas where the winning margin was less than the number of spoilt ballots- there would be problems in doing this however)
diablo isn't just a dungeon hack, sheesh, theres endless amounts of nuance in diablo 2!

yes, the ubuntu install cd would clear that up for you nicely ;)
one would hope that it would be backported into -STABLE too though.
so if i make a post in this thread will it appear back in time in the other thread too?
agreed, and preferably either in a 'say hello to my little friend' style, or a 'its a tommygun akakakakakakak' style best parodied in The Mask.
shhhhh, or you know who will sue slashdot. and make unfounded personal attacks on everyone who posted.
MOD PARENT UP Exactly right, free beer and speech, NOT free lunch. Let them develop their own os for their freedom restricting drm laced wares.

guilty as charged i'm afraid =D
sigh, they shoulda used FreeBSD of course
err, ok, so it wasn't the oil now?
Does the fact that there were only ever 2 Sith at any one time not kind of preclude that possibility?
Holy unexpected fictional world character crossover batman!
Maybe the bacteria could keep Marvin company
Of course!
Marketing spin doctor types would tell you that 'it's the science of language synergy, combined with the art of media manipulation!' Or something.
