    depends...in university I learnt how to communicate, do proper presentations, scientific writing in reports, critical thinking etc..moreover, your life would be boring if you learn everything by just reading the books. Lectures and labs are more lively (especially if there is discussion in the classroom).

    FYI there is an option to change the keyboard layout in your OS and there is every language in there. Including French. You can even swap between languages by pressing ALT+SHIFT together:)

    Now excuse me, I will switch my layout to type in some Greek blog...

    Seriously though, it is nice to have a lowest common denominator in characters, so that everyone can type every address on the Internet.

    Um...Why? Do you know every address on the internet? There are already web sites in other languages that you don't know about what is the problem if their address is in some other language? Does it really bother you?

    Furthermore you need plenty of training data partitioned into training and test sets so you can evaluate the generalisation error. If you don't do that you can have absolutely no confidence about the performance of your system.

    There are a lot of network protocols designed to save as much energy as possible. Check Low Power Listening. This is actually an interesting idea and there is much research from Cambridge UK too (see Pocket Switched Networks). In the end yes, there is more energy usage, but technology will progress:)

    this is ./ and everyone is on the side of the person who refused to give their key, but you are acting like zombies in these cases.

    Ok, yes there is a chance the person wants to defend their rights and not give their key to the authorities, but it is also more likely the police has a really good reason for prosecuting that person, and the person has a pretty good reason for not giving the key (i.e. he has done crime). That's why they have this law.

    how do you know? PERFECT is a strong word. it is suitable and it works yes, but how do you know there aren't better conditions for life (as we know it)? Like, no threats from outter space, nor the sun blowing up so early in a cosmological timescale etc.
