I've been using Zap2it with Directv and it never really worked well, instead since I only record cycling races and they only happen so often I check the listing on the Directv box, keep the Mythtv on channel 3 and use it like a vcr, the Directv box is the one that selects the channel and the Mythtv box uses the manual programming to record channel 3 from x time to x time. If not I just do it manually, start the Mythtv box with enter press R (record) come back a few hours later and stop it. Not a big deal, it won't say what program it is on the file but thats ok.

A way more detailed and explained article than the original one. The ECS facilities seemed a little more organized and neater than gigabite's. Thanx for the link, i too would buy one of this boards, I don't know why I tended to think ECS boards were not very good (probably because they sell cheaper at my local Microcenter), after this pictures I stand corrected. The article is more technical and the pictures are better. I wonder why is it that women are better suited for this type of work than men, is it because they complain less, or is it easier to pay them less money, more attention to detail?. I imagine a combination of all.
Just like the cop told them they were being videotaped (probably as a form of legal disclosure), they probably could have just told the police that he himself was being videotaped and then it was not undercover or spying on the cop?. That the guy needs the consent of the people he video on a public place (and a public officer of the law), I really wonder if that is needed. IANAL of course.
I never thought to see a news like this in Slashdot, yet, i never watched the Sopranos either, the closest thing to watching it was an episode of the Simpsons where they play the music with chief Wiggum going on his car as if he was Tony Soprano, I have to admit i did see the intro to the show once and I like the music.
Its funny that Slashdot posted this story on the front page, yet my journal story about itunes including users names and accounts numbers in itunes store songs files didn't make it.
I use knoppmyth and i love it, but I wish some things where different, personally I don't like fluxbox too much, its too rigid, I wish it came with kde, I understand that some people want to keep the system light but I like to have easy access to hard drives and to use the desktop some times. Also much easier to update and upgrade the system that way. In the mythtv dept. one thing I don't like, and it could be my own fault for not configuring it correctly, is that programs have to be viewed soon or they will be erased automatically, there are buttons to undo this, but sometimes even when I ask the box to save the program if I don't view it it will get erased. Very small details, and i know that i can apt-get install kde and so on but it would be nice to have it as an option at install, which in knoppmyth BTW is a breeze.
As for fedora, I have never really liked it. fedora core 3-4 never got my sound card right. I have not tried fedora 6 even thought I have downloaded the dvd. Instead I use Sidux and I'm very happy, any Debian derivate is easier than fedora.
I would like to thank Cecil for the work he does at Knoppmyth.
All they probably need is Abiword, a light and stable office compatible program. I use both NeoOffice and Abiword, they both work fine, but if you just need to type papers and stuff Abiword is better since is so light. I would never buy Microsoft software for the mac, also i thought they were going to drop support for the mac anyway.
It's a waste of good recycling paper for more books (hopefully not Harry Potter or Ann Coutler), or just plain toilet paper, as well as contributing to the pollution just to make a statement is irresponsible too. A publicity stunt that stinks all the way.
I know what she is talking about, it happens from time to time with updates (at least on my machines, all of them ppc), the update finish downloading, then the dialog comes up and prompts you to reboot, you push the button to reboot or turn off, if you reboot some times when the download is of certain kind (specially security ones) it starts to boot the apple comes on the little circle underneath the apple is spinning and then it goes to reboot again, like the update needs an other settling, then it reboots normally, I've had that happened a few times, mostly since 10.4.6 the first time it happened it kind bothered me that it was taking so long to boot that I pushed the power button to kill the booting process and restarted again with out problems, essentially doing the same process manually. Nothing to be alarmed with. I have 4 macs and all of them did the same.
I was spammed and just changed my email address

Is Email 'Bankrupt'?

When spam took over my inbox and I had the fear that my email was insecure I just discarded that address and just started an other one. Now i pay more attention on where I put my address and who I email, I also have a different address to use when I fear spamming, like when answering ads on craigslist, I think most of the phishing happens when ads are answered. I can pin point the email I send and the first spamming email that comes in. And if the account gets taken over by spam I just replace it, my personal email acct. is only for family and friends. I think one has to have a few email accounts to be safe.
I mean there is music that is independent from corporations, is there a restriction to this music, like a tax or something that anyone has to pay to transmit either on the air or on line?, also what about music made in other countries that is not bought by American corporations?, this should be the way to do radio, just skip the music that is owned by the conglomerates and go to the source, the artists. Most bands are lame anyway, and even thought i do like some dj's and some hiphop i would give it up. I had hoped to put my own internet radio station but since i started hearing all this issues it made me wait and see what comes out of it, then i thought about air waves radio (ala pirate), but that is pretty hairy, so i think the way to go is find good free music and use that, with the consent of the artists i imagine.
I don't need HDtv and have a Directv connected to my Knoppmyth system and can record anything i want. True that myth is not perfect but is free and won't restrict you at all. Knoppmyth is very easy to set up and use pretty average hardware (happauge cards are pretty average), so i don't see the problem, i hated Microsoft always and don't use it for anything (my wife has to for work), i don't see a reason to purchase this kind of software that restricts you and cost so much.
I for one wrote a little note asking if it was worth it to give money to this project. I did give them some money, and as a fan of racing (car and motorcycle and cycling), am exited to watch the race and root for the #77 car. Not only they are one of the under dogs out there (they even lost the first driver in a crash in the qualifying rounds) but a lot of the linux community was against them in a bad way, apparently even/., so more of an under dog IMHO. The new driver is a seasoned driver that has always been a "replacement" driver, but he is no doubt a good driver (better than the original in my opinion), also driving a formula one car, he even has won a few races in the champ car and the formula 3000 leagues. He also was running as of sunday morning practice in 13 place. I hope he does well, and just by being in the race it has proved that projects like this deserve the attention of the community, advertising anything in any media is very expensive and this is a good conduit to reach average people, or do we don't want to see Linux advertised at all?.
First of all, who cares what she does on her spare time, second she is not underage or was at the time, third she paid her school in time (I asume), and pass her classes. So they should give her the diploma of what she was studying. As long as she wasn't drunk in class, they (school admin.) have nothing to say.
I like to play music with my friends as a hobby, and looking for free options i stumbled upon Musix . Having used a mac with Reason and found it a little lacking and a bit expensive, i found Musix very usable. Not only it had most things that Reason had, but also came configured to use jackd server with a bunch of applications with no real work involved. Using it in a laptop I did have to use the command line to configure the wireless card but it was easy. I have to say that Linux is ready to be in the studio, yet as all things linux most of the software is in beta stage so bugs might appear. Just don't be afraid of the command line and you will be fine.
The US will ask for extraditions such as this one, for obvious non violent crimes (in the US), but when it comes to their own agendas (like sponsoring terrorism via the CIA), they will not let other nations get their justice. As is the case of Luis Posada Carriles a known airplane bomber and former CIA operative, Posada has been accused of involvement in various terrorist attacks and plots in the Western hemisphere. But the US government won't extradite him to Venezuela. Or even keep him in jail.
I hope all this rampant corruption and abuse is the sign that the worst administration in the history of the U.S. is about to collapse. If history is our guide, Rome had the same signs. What will be the aftermath is the question.
The original sounds are pretty ugly, there is a guy (brad?) that made some alternative ones, they are better, but it would be nice if they were already included or if they made some new ones that don't suck.
I'm not sure if its easy to ensure that the people that use the licensed material (depending on the license you chose) is used the correct way. I was using CC to license the drawings that i made with the Draw software at the Openstudio website from MIT, now out of service (they say for the moment), and people were using my drawings how ever they wanted (changing them even tho i had restricted that option and then posting them under their names like they made them in the first place). I really don't care much if they do, but the license wasn't of much use it seemed.
Entrapment and spyware, those two things are illegal.

That is hilarious.

No one picked it up. if you care too look it's here

RIAA will ask elevator operators to cough up money for their elevator music, per floor per person.

Check out the google video that puts Bush Sr. in the center of the conspiracy to kill JFK
Sadly and in a way very scary, the U.S. is on the lead in using the net against people. As Professor Andrew Feldmar, a well-known Vancouver psychotherapist learned, when it comes to the current U.S. government, and the use of the Patriot Act, a simple border patrol officer, or a normal cop, can google your name and "decide" what kind of person you are. Laws like the Patriot Act, put way too much power in the hands of low level security workers, that with the internet tools can ban, and maybe even incarcerate anyone on their sole judgment. Prof. Feldmar wrote an article published in the spring 2001 issue of the journal Janus Head. The article concerned an acid trip Feldmar had taken in London, Ontario, and another in London, England, almost forty years ago. It also alluded to the fact that he had used hallucinogenics as a "path" to understanding self and that in certain cases, he reflected, it could "be preferable to psychiatry." The guard didn't like what he saw, and pulled him off the line and in to a nightmare that hasn't really finished. He has been baned to enter the U.S. for ever due to "narcotics" use. LSD is not a narcotic substance, Feldmar tried to explain, but an entheogen. The guard wasn't interested in technicalities. He asked for a statement from Feldmar admitting to having used LSD and he fingerprinted Feldmar for an FBI file. I don't think computers should "forget" stuff, in this case for example, the computer would have to forget the professor's work entirely. I think the use of the internet as a weapon against people is just ripe for a government like the current U.S. administration. I wish we could just forget despot laws and politicians, but the net will never forget.

My records are free of DRM and sound great, on top of that i can record them in to my computer and if the hard drive dies my records are safe.
