You can argue that the food chain exists for that reason, and that might debunk a lot of teenage girls who think that not eating cute critters is a good way of being different among their highschool class. However, the problem that many vegans have is not that animals are consumed, but that they are literally tortured in the modern commercial farm.
No creature deserves to be cooped up a small cage, kept in filth, injected with cocktails of growth hormones, and then thoughtlessly killed before one another. That's not what the food chain dictates in the least bit. n fact, I believe that if prior to eating, everyone had to personally do that (or even just watch it), that they make think differently as well. This isn't going out into the forest and swiftly killing a single creature now and then. No one quietly gives thanks to the animals that die to keep us going, and then we waste copious amounts of "the product" on top of it.
If you have to eat meat (which you really don't), then at least buy organic and look for truly free range meat. Don't just take labels at face value, because they are deceptive. Of better yet, raise or hunt for your own food. Not only will it be of better quality, but you'll know exactly what goes into it.
From the article:
Painting the current scientific community as just as bad as the Spanish Inquisition, an extended trailer of Ben Stein's "Expelled" has a lot of people (at least that I know) talking. It looks like his movie plans to encourage people to speak out if they believe intelligent design or creationism to be correct. That sure is a funny comparison. Last time I checked, the Inquisition worked the other way. You had to believe in creationism of else some nice priest would brutally torture you in order to save your soul from eternal damnation. Just one case in a long list of travesties caused by nut cases following the word of their god (whether it be Christians, Muslims, or Jews... all the same god)
People that believe in these barbaric superstitions should be embarrassed to speak out. And that's being nice about it.
This is exactly the kind of thing that Wizards of the Coast has always been known for. It doesn't matter if you're replacing "banned" Magic cards every year, being muscled out of the wargaming scene, or any number of other scenarios. This is what they do.
However, most DVDs are non-widescreen and laptop screens are small enough as it is without having the lost real-estate. Only if you're one of those idiots that go out of their way to find the "FULLSCREEN EDITION" of every film because you "don't want the top and bottom cut off". Really, it should be illegal to sell films outside of widescreen. Why watch a movie if you're not even going to see everything you were meant to see?
They've already paid. What they do during lectures is there business. Plenty of people--in general--can pass classes without paying attention. Many people just go for the wittle piece 'o paper saying that they do indeed know the material, despite already being well versed in it.
While a decent film in its own right, I prefer The Last Man on Earth as far as I Am Legend adaptations go. I'm kind of a Vincent Price fanboy anyway.:P
It's hard to get much better than Planet of the Apes (even the sequels were decent). Heston was decidedly great even in his Biblical films though, such as the Ten Commandments and Ben Hur.
But, I guess a science and technology web site doesn't have room for one of the most noted SCI FI shows any more.... I know, I never see anyone talking about The Next Generation nowadays!
Though your statements ring true, people could always just stop living in debt. I barely have a middle class income, if that, yet I own my residence, property, vehicles, etc. Nothing in the ghetto or falling apart, either! People need to wake up and stop spending more than they can make in imaginary money.
I suffered with satellite for years. I was among the first one several different systems. I remember having to upload with a dial-up modem in the beginning! If I had to choose between going back to satellite or having a throttled cable connection, I'd choose the throttled cable connection without batting an eye. It may be throttled, but at least P2P activities aren't blocked altogether and threatening to push you over the pitifully small and ridiculously overpriced bandwidth limit.
Only recently was I able to get Time Warner's internet service, and I don't see any other options opening up in the future. I live a little too far out for any to consider me a viable demographic. Just because I don't like the crowding and pollution of the city, go figure. The internet doesn't need regulated, but the providers do. The free market won't work itself out in favor of the consumer when there is no market to compete in (and maybe not even then).
I give the GIMP a try now and then, the last one being about one or two years ago. At that time the program was still fairly far-off from being on par with Photoshop. Though of course you're right--This online Photoshop isn't likely to offer anything in the way of the full version either (Hell, Elements was bad enough), so you really might as well take a look at the GIMP. It's not a bad program by any means, but it is lacking a lot of the fnctionality that graphic designer have come to take for granted over the years. Of course, if you too are a graphic designer and find the GIMP a little lacking, I'd suggest just pirating CS3.:P
I spent plenty of time burning my hands on soldering irons, but I was more of an art geek overall. Besides, I was smart enough to beat the shit out of anyone who thought of bullying me. No sympathy should be rewarded to those that are stuffed into lockers, even if they do block access to something as horrid as MySpace.
Return To Castle Rammstein I'd buy that. The guys from the band look like they could easily kick ass (save for the keyboardist)! Besides, it'd have a pretty darn good soundtrack for a FPS.
A bot that automatically performs essential tasks?! Isn't World of Warcraft already painfully dull in just how automated it is. That click and wait combat is enough to put you to sleep.
Apparently some people don't see anything wrong with subjecting fellow passengers to an hour long conversation. It has always amazed me more so that these people care nothing for their own privacy. Anytime that I'm out in public, I try not to be heard while conversing because it isn't anyone else's business. Of course, in a society that devalues privacy more and more everyday, it isn't entirely surprising. Or are these people just that self-centered and oblivious of their surroundings?

"Helicopter sounds"
"So and So speaking"
Yeah. :(
Oh wait, those aren't weird so much as lame... and probably can't actually be counted as computers, per say.
What? Surely others remember that sound clip. It was everywhere!
Combining their efforts, aye? Can't get much crappier than that...
That's my profile they talk about in the article! :\

MMOs are too boring to become addicted to. Point and click combat? Pay to play redundancy? No thanks.

I was thinking the exact same after reading this in the Fire House the other day.

Talk about the statistics of anyone at bat..
Craigslist, (most) blogs, and YouTube are riddled with too many idiots to even be granted the acknowledgment of being biased...
