  1. Re:MP3 on MP3 Format Still Gathering Momentum · · Score: 1

Yes, This is why mp3s are still on top even though they lack in quality compared to ogg flac aac etc. People making formats or coders or anyone in the open source community always seem to forget one thing when developing: The sexy factor. All the large corporations wouldn't exist without their branding and advertising techniques. Advertising is pretty much a science now and the idea that people will do what you say as long as you cover it up with enuff bs prevails. MP3's are very popular because the name rolls off the tongue, it has the letter 'M' in it which lets the layman know it has something to do with music and every players supports if for sure. People are afraid of buying technology that they are not 100% sure will work with their files or whatever. Of course I am not including the technologically inclined as knowledge comes easy to that part of the population. Notice how linux is taking off faster than before around the same time that eye candy is getting really nice? You can't sell the average person just by telling them how much better a product is. You have to show them some leg.

I agree with you all the way. I am tired of people taking the word unnatural to mean man-made or something in that line of thinking. If humans are unnatural then how can we even exist. It is in our nature to think complex thoughts and try to control our surroundings. We do not have biological weapons such as claws or poison or whatever. Most creatures protect their gene pool through defense. Humans happen to do it by exercising dominance over everything they come in contact with. Our habitat is in cities and houses and such. If that is unnatural then ants building a hill is unnatural. The term unnatural should be stricken from the language as it is misleading. Everything is natural, it is this idea of analyzing the world by taking out the human element that needs its own terminology.

  5. Re:Honest question on How Tech Almost Lost the War · · Score: 1

First to answer your question its simply money and perpetuation of power.(not the power of America but the power of the groups financially gaining from this war)
Second, You will never hear a politician in this country tell you anything straight. It is a dichotomous identity crisis we have in America. Our leaders portray their lives and decisions as good and moral while they do the exact opposite. The problem is the general population of America are good people at heart so they wont want to go to war or devastate a people unless it is somehow just(which in my opinion is a stupid notion). The Roman Empire had the right idea. They wanted to war with anything touching their borders and portrayed the country as such. They made it honorable and desirable to be a warrior. They were straight with their people for the most part. Here politicians come up with some bs that sounds nice and then go do things that we probably don't want to know or accept is happening. I think this country needs to either accept that we are pushing the entire world around with force or just cause the country to not take these actions. All in all, the government currently uses media and other outlets to keep our blinders on so we accept whatever they want. Americans are slaves to the government. Our current chains it seems are lack of knowledge and debt.

When you talk about administering chemicals according to the situation I think of the futuristic body armor suits in many sci-fi writings. Most recently in Mass Effect where your suit can have first aid upgrades that inject you with all sorts of stuff. I would like to see performance enhancing drugs administered. Maybe when adrenaline spikes in your body (from imminent car accident or even someone tries to attack you) some drugs that increase reaction times and pain killers or whatever get shot into your blood stream.

Why care if an unlicensed anime is available with fansubs?

It doesn't matter if its unlicensed or not to Comcast. They see huge bandwidth drain and they want it to stop. Simple as that. They have decided to employ illegal scare tactics to try and control traffic. Anime which is not licensed in the states can't be forced to be taken down. Also DMCA takedowns have to be issued by the copyright holder, not comcast.
  8. Re:what is this anime thing ? on Comcast Targets Unlicensed Anime Torrenters · · Score: 1

Well first, most anime have a continuous story that can be very engaging and allow for thorough character development seen in books or final fantasy games. So if more wester adults would give it a chance they would see that a lot of the stories are at an adult level (for example, if you like Dexter which is on Showtime you might enjoy Death Note as the stories involve serial killers and having to use their wits to not get caught).
Second, Unlike American adults the Japanese already got over themselves when it comes to watching animation. Seriously Americans adults having this 'consensus' that anything animated is for kids (animation cant win best film in the oscars, they gave animation its own category which is obviously condescending towards the art of animation, which is in many respects much more difficult to accomplish that live action film. Just because it's animated doesn't mean you can't draw stuff that isn't for kids only.

Its not that both sides think they are right. Its a matter of both sides are trying to walk away with as much as possible. The more one side gets the less the other gets. Doing business is essentially a form of compromise that each side must take. People like RIAA seem to have forgotten this ans just take more for themselves screwing the customer. But as I said, it is only natural to have conflict when doing business. A customer that is being "unreasonable" is just trying harder than most to get what they want at the price they want. They usually know full well what they are doing as well at the company selling the product.

Flying isn't just hit the gas and you're in the sky. It's not that difficult but you still need knowledge, especially for emergencies. The reason its generally safer to travel by plane compared to cars is that it takes a lot more to get a pilot's license than to get a drivers license (which is probably easy to get so that automotive industry can make money from crashes by putting idiots on the road)
