  1. Re:OpenSocial isn't going to save MySpace. on Battle Lines Being Drawn Over OpenSocial · · Score: 1

To put it bluntly, OpenSocial isn't an anything "killer." And OpenSocial isn't going to save Myspace.

Uh nothing can save Myspace. They wrote a piece of shit software that wasn't remade the second they got famous and then got stuck with just tacking on more code and making it an even worse POS. The cool thing about facebook besides being developed better (IMO up until they added those dumb useless apps that do nothing but annoy me) it was closed to college students. People that go to college have something in common. Now its just another social site. Lame. It was nice when it was clean and manageable and you use photo tagging as the best feature really. But now its just cluttered. I get all these dumb app links from friends because they all default to send to everyone on your list and I don't enjoy looking at my starting page anymore.

    * Streaming radio? Hell yes! I've discovered more good, solid bands that way in the past four years, than through any other means.

This is a great way to learn about bands because unlike regular radio you get the track info! Just the convenience of the info just scrolling there is all thats needed. Having to listen carefully to see if the station tells you who that song just was is too difficult to care. Also less/no ads helps listening enjoyment.

What if good guys wrote some virus or worm to take down a corporation that was doing something unreasonable! is that so bad? yes and no, its grey! bad guys! I will say this, if you look at comic books and movies in various countries. Almost every story in America is good vs evil. And in a lot of other places in the world the stories are usually more real and less dichotomous, for the most part.

In other words corporate has some sort of political agenda and wont carry certain movies because of it. Netflix on the other hand has pretty much everything I can imagine, also a bunch of anime which is nice. downloading divx is good and fast but sometimes you wanna see some stuff on dvd, especially older anime which is hard to get a good quality versions of usually online.

I tried blender and was able to use the interface well but I just don't like it since I really don't do the brunt of animation actually in 3dsmax, I use motion builder since that essentially rigs your character to animate. I mean you still do a lot of work back in max but using max and maya then to motion builder is part of a production pipeline that works quite nicely. I also use max to render out when I am doing video and there is no vray for blender. Basically from my point of view, blender is on its way to becoming usable but its not there yet. Just needs a lot of little things.

  12. Re:Experiences on Ubuntu Dev Summit Lays Out Plans For Hardy Heron · · Score: 1

I needs to run all of the software that people need. With a few exceptions, Ubuntu provides equivalent software to what's available for Windows, typically at a much better price. And the exceptions tend to be fairly specialized, expensive software packages, not general desktop stuff.

Those specialized software is what needs to run on Ubuntu to kill windoes. As far as I am concerned, minus those specialized softwares (3dsmax, adobe CS3, motion builder, etc.) Ubuntu already kills windows. As long as I don't need to use those software Ubuntu does everything I need. But alas I do need to often use those softwares so I have to go back into windows for a while and get work done. What I think needs to happen is that Ubuntu needs some sort of security assurance for those software companies such as Autodesk or Adobe or even game companies that they can have their software installed and it will be hard or annoying to crack the software. In other words, to sell software we need a platform for closed source packages. I know everyone is anal about not having anything closed source on their nix systems but people selling software have to protect their code. It's just business. I am all for having an open platform on which to work from but if we wanna get any real software it actually costs money to make. Look at blender, I am sorry to say but it will never be up to par with the big expensive 3d softwares. They just don't have money and man power being poured into it. So until closed source software can make it to the nix desktop in full force it cant completely squash windows.

You know it's not like microsoft doesnt compete on the internets. They have Groove or whatever so you can share office crap with peoples. Just no hosting of that info for you. All they have to do is have groove throw your shit on live or something and then google has to compete with a whole platform again. Even tho we all hate MS, they do have the advantage of having been around a while. I guess a relevant analogy would be an older warrior can be defeated by the strong yet inexperienced fighter if he just waits for the old man to die. It will happen, if you just leave MS alone they will probably fuck themselves, playing ball with them just keeps them trained and sharp.
