This story is tagged "defectivebydesign", but what Apple wants to do is anything but.
Operators have a hard limit on the amount of service they can actually provision. Allowing any and all devices to run willy nilly on the network would be certain death, even for the best-laid network. By throttling certain services, turning off certain capabilities, and allowing remote provisioning management, Apple is making sure that the device they are providing to users will work and continue to work on the network.
This is a very important feature not only for the NOs, but also for businesses who would provide these phones to their field teams. Though, to be honest, restriction of features doesn't seem very patentable, at least there are other implementations that already exist. WinMo has had this since WM6.1, for example.
Conveniently, this will also allow carriers to restrict users instead of expanding their infrastructure where possible.
I concur, but it's a depressing state that it should ever even be necessary to add to the work necessary to do less work in a realm where usability should be paramount.
A lot of the fancy shit you see on the internet today is javascript, the reason much of it wasn't there before was because javascript was so damn intensive to execute. It's nothing like machine code, it's not even like repackaged interpreter language. Javascript is run straight from the script, and it is a terribly inefficient way to do things, but it is much easier to distribute along with HTML.
JS isn't exactly the future of all websites, but it's certainly easier to work with for light effects than flash.
I'll show you why you want JS to run better... go to ebay.com and press CTRL-F5 and count how long it takes to load. Then, disable Javascript execution and press CTRL-F5 again. I'm sure someone else can suggest a more JS intensive site, but that's all I got right now.
I really liked MoblinV2 when I tried it on my wind but it seemed to keep falling short of my needs. Pairing my bluetooth mouse more than once was too much trouble, and I had all sorts of little nags. The way the bar at the top popped up every time I tried to close a window or anything was a nuisance.
So many things right are easily undone by the problems underneath. I'd just like to see the Clutter interface for Ubuntu, and more unique interfaces in general.

I thought Schrodinger's Cat was meant to mock Bohr's interpretation of quantum mechanics and superposition... not actually suggest a rational experiment for proving or disproving anything.
It's not open source that's a problem, it's alternatives. The best alternative to Microsoft is Alternative Microsoft.

Freedom is opposition. A perfect thing can not be made more perfect, it must be displaced. Make people fear the alternative, legally hamper and suppress it as much as possible, then offer a... "Legal" Alternative Microsoft.

We know what happens after that. This is somewhat depressing for me, I just feel like this is a battle F/OSS can not win, Microsoft is powerful and motivated.
"How do you know whether that since you installed 3.0.1 you still have a choice to upgrade?"
Can be rearranged as
"Since you installed 3.0.1, how do you know you still have a choice to upgrade?"
There is nothing wrong with my syntax, just your comprehension.

Are you saying that an Apple a day doesn't keep the doctor away?
Well, it certainly won't keep the FTC and the FCC away, at this rate...
How do you know whether that since you installed 3.0.1 you still have a choice to upgrade?
Now I want to get this thing pointed at me and see what it's like! I'll make my own this weekend!
Reasons why it's a good idea:
It isn't made of corrugated cardboard.
Adblock+ and NoScript is win :)

Good thing I have other plans!
Don't be so pedantic.

Did I miss anything?
I agree though that it's a rather satirical implementation, the question is just whether this can actually add something to biology classes.
Absolutely, in much the same way Beavis and Butthead taught me good morals and common sense!
I think you missed the article and went straight to the comments. I'll summarize...
School - Based - On - Only - Video Games.
I fucking love Spore but... yeah, it's a very entertaining mimicry of science that shouldn't be confused with anything plausible.
I also don't see the technical difference in breeding grounds between the shower head and the faucet...
"Yeah, but can it run Windows?"
When it sounds too good to be true...

I know who was about the 9th person to invent the lightbulb!
