not true - especially on facebook, there is such a mishmash of links and plugins that it can get really confusing to find out what is or isn't being blocked, but if you just allow the who;e page you open yourself up to all kinds of crap- don't get me wrong I still use it but it is not as user friendly as you are saying
the other important one: the article claims a 1.4m pound windfall from the paid subscriptions - what comparatively is lost in advertising revenue due to the drop in readership?:that is that could you have boosted advertising revenue to cover the gap between gained sales and lost revenue without going to a subscription model as well as maintaining readership and relevancy.
I can sue anyone for anything: if I knew your name and address I could sue you right now for... oh, let's say slander and you'd have to shell out $$$ or be found guilty.
guilt and innocence are found in criminal court not civil.
once you have multiple options for doing the same kind of thing, the value of all programs in the group begins to fall off a cliff do to competition.
this is true with the exception of the cases like you mentioned with photoshop and the reason why photoshop shouldn't care as much about piracy- at least on a consumer grade level. I would argue that enterprise purchases are what make up the bulk of the income because, it is taught in schools, it is the leading platform for businesses plugin compatibility is better- etc. etc. Personal use licenses ought to be free.
on another note, I don't think I know a single person (myself included) who has worked professionally with photoshop who didn't learn it by starting with a pirated version- when it comes to professional grade software you learn it with a hands on and if you didn't fall into an internship or acquire training- you just plain aren't exposed to the software.
I think that you are missing the big one- the chances that your company has to pay out overtime or that your boss goes ballistic when you lose a vital document because it was erroneously deleted is right around 100%...
I am using an astak reader and I read faster on it- why? because I don't lose my place as often when someone is trying to talk to me or other such interruptions- so I end up not reading the same page multiple times like I do with a paper book
actually you can argue the fact- apparently not with you because you are closed minded and applying pseudo logic so I won't even try. You are using a flat world logic where because you can see the horizon it is obviously the end of the world.
I am arguing against putting the blame on people pirating for losses, especially those that are instead as you say using the money to buy drugs- it is nowhere near a cause of the issue, the industry losses are smaller than the losses in other areas of the economy not plagued by any sort of IP issues and income losses to consumers is actually greater in most cases than industry losses.
did I say that not being able to afford it = having the right to steal it? I am saying that not having the $ equals a lack of sales and that the lack of sales the lack of income for most of us.
what I am saying is that it is pretty endemic in the country as a whole that people do not have the money that they used to- it reflects more on the post that you commented on than your response perhaps but I would wager that more people don't have the $ that they used to than "refuse" to spend it in favor of drugs.
the problem though as well is that your argument doesn't take people like me into account who used to have at least a few hundred to a thousand a month a few years ago and now have next to nothing because I was laid off and am now making less than half of what I did a couple of years ago. If I (and most of the people I know) are making such a substantial amount less, the music industry has no right to complain about a 5% loss in overall sales with a 25% gain in digital sales
I think that this just isn't practical and probably never will be, it doesn't scale very well, 60 fps would likely shatter the mirror, in most applications nobody would actually care to sit at the back and frankly it's a big spinning mirror in the middle of your office or living room.
you are right when it comes to the living room, but you could make a mylar mirror that could spin a lot faster if needed and it would still be great as a demo device for shows and conferences, I could also see it being used for meeting tech demos and engineers and medical professionals, it does have it's uses.
also hulu is platform specific on it's licensing which is why it is only watchable on your computer unless you stream it from your computer via playon or some other internet media server.
actually it would be but not for the reason that you are saying, because it would have concessions for everyone writing it. Take a look at any bill that goes through congress and there are a million concessions given to the simplest of concepts.
I don't know where you're getting your Windows CD's but I've never seen one that came with a preinstalled copy of Office. However, practically every copy of Linux comes with OpenOffice.org.
Office support isn't your OS, and to tell you the truth- I don't even have office installed on my main PC (well I guess that is a lie because it is on my ubuntu partition as opeoffice) because I don't use it unless I am redoing my resume or somesuch. Also preinstalling apps like that sets you up for anti-trust *koff*interneteplorerr*koff*
as of what has been revealed your best option is either the eeepad or the innoversal tablet(which has the pixel qi screen). Both are wintels so they should be fairly compatible, I just want to know if there is one that I can set up as a dual boot win7 and ubuntu w/o external H\W since so many of them depend on a software keyboard and a lot of these devices are coming out sans buttons save the power. Personally though I am looking forward to the exoPC so far as wintabletslatenetbook devices (is that a word?) go.
uwe boll is a symptom, not the problem- remember he didn't make street fighter, mortal kombat or the mario brothers movie. He isn't the first video game movie director to suck, he is just the most publicized.
What should be considered is, if filesharing were not around, at ALL, would their losses equal $1.5 trillion
from what I can gather the recording industry hit a high in 1999 with 14.5 billion, which means that if the recording industry as a whole just quit and made $0 per year for the next thousand years they would match that high every year with a $1.5 trillion settlement
it still seems kind of lame to me as a DAW controller, for a few reasons:
the reaction time of the touch screen has an irritating latency to it when moving on it (not triggering- but swiping it is very pronounced when you use drawing and layout programs on it), there isn't a way to set up a hard wired connection via midi or usb midi hence most software requires a midi loopback which increases the latency by another layer, I haven't seen any apps that let you do any kind of deep customization for a controller setup (though I could be wrong on that)... I would rather have a touchscreen tablet with a USB that I could run an instance of ableton on and then do the syncing to the main laptop/desktop that way I could set the latency more easily and have a standard midi sync... but that is just me
I actually agree with what you are saying, I don't think pdf's are the best option- I usually convert pdfs to epub when possible, that said I don't think that most people understand the difference between e-book readers and document viewers
I read them reflowed all of the time, remember I am reading books, not spreadsheets with an e-reader so it is mainly text that I am reading- the only part that sucks is when people put page numbers on the side and not as a header/footer
Facebook, MySpace Get Failing Grade on Customer Satisfaction
they rated a 64% in most places that is a D- which technically is not a failing grade

Geez..what happened to the good old days in the late 70's, when people would just light up a doobie and listen to Pink Floyd on the headphones...?
it's the same thing- you just get high from the headphones now and not the doobie

How much money are we paying these "experts" to sit around and come up with this again?
nowhere near as much as it would cost us to enforce the copyright laws- make the public pay for corporations to screw the public harder....

No way. It would be about 20 times longer.

Because of Uwe Boll.

The iPod sold because the other PMPs at the time sucked ass or blew chunk, your choice.
I disagree- I loved the creative zen that I used far more than the ipod, archos had some nice options as well.
