Evolution has been proven on a small scale. Saying we can get complicated machines we are by random chance, a lot of energy, and a lot of time, is the only scientific explanation for life as we know it. That doesn't mean its the actual explanation, just the only scientifically explainable one.
In contrast, GW is taking data points on a relatively tiny amount of time and extrapolating it out to the point you know it isn't in the least bit reliable as a long term model. Sure, we're probably affecting things somehow and we need to stop destroying forests and habitats and plant more trees, but it doesn't mean the planet doesn't have its own way of dealing with excess carbon in the atmosphere that won't result in global catastrophe.
If the temperature starts changing direction and theories get thrown around as to why, no doubt the people touting global warming will say "wow its something nobody could have guessed" while people from another field who were skeptics will be saying "I've been saying it probably worked this way for decades".
These are most likely going to comprise mainly of parts that were intentionally stripped out from the game for the sake of selling it for more.
And most likely the "part pack" will be much much cheaper and bundled with future part packs / expansions in the future.
Given the nature of the game I dont see a reason to pay for this. It only rewards the company for basically with-holding something they had already put money into developing. I understand, despite EA's greedy practices, it isn't even making a profit, but that has more to do with the massive amount of money it puts into marketing, its stubborn hiring practices that gives it a very luke-warm talent pool, and its poor management. Thinking about it, I dont understand why spore is lacking so much unless it was simply a lack of programming talent that prevented them from accomplishing what they wanted to within the timeframe they had. Closely looking at the game models when they move and such makes you realize that there isn't as much complexity as you would hope.
To put things in perspective, EA does the equivalent of spending more money on making a car commercial than actually in designing the car itself. I forget where I saw their budget break-down. Maybe that's changed, but seeing who they hired in Red Alert 3 for the cut scenes (that goes towards marketing), I doubt that's turned around.
You do realize that all historical data that predates accurate measurements are just very rough estimates that are open to interpretation and completely unopen to experimental proof and disproof, right? I can't grab a rock, do something to for a million years, and prove that I was right that it looks the way it does because of it. As a programmer, I can argue that I'm initially wrong about the cause of bugs in programs I wrote 80%+ of the time. However, unlike a program, where i can prove or disprove myself right or wrong quite quickly (hopefully), a geologist or climatologist can't when it comes to large scale theories like this. Its all a cycle of pre-knowledge with very few people challenging what they were fundamentally taught.
Climatology is more or less a pseudo-science, at best a scientific research project. It, by definition, is not humanly possible to prove right or wrong. There is no isolation of variables, perceived close similarities. Whatever you don't account for is assumed to be not a factor, when it in reality easily could be.
I could say my dog can't learn tricks, it must either be unintelligent, hard of hearing, or hard of seeing. These are the only factors I'm considering. Eventually, I come to the conclusion he can see fine and hear fine, so it must be he is unintelligent. But in reality, its my teaching style that is the cause - something I fundamentally assumed was correct. For the sake of the argument, lets say, like the climate, I am only given ONE dog to work with, so if I had been able to grab other dogs and find they all don't learn new tricks, I would have went "ah ha!" and realized it wasn't my dog that was the problem.
We only have one Earth, one sun, one timeline. We can only build models based off our current understanding how things work, and those models can only be assumed correct if they come up with the same conclusion I have already made.
Of course, I'm not saying global warming more or less isn't being affected by humans, because it must be. At the very least, consider all of the artificial heat we create with our cars, computers, heaters, air conditioners, etc. But the amount of effect is open way too much up for debate and not much else.
I work in QA and I do plenty of programming of multiple varieties. I'm A CS graduate 1 1/2 years out of college. I can see where your coming from, in that QA work isn't exactly solving mathematical problems, and often involves "plagiarizing" someone else's code (i.e. from another department who had to work with the product before you did). However, it can also be a lot of black box debugging, and forces you to look over your code and check that it works before you call it "released". Its not exactly the skill-set I prefer, but the fact I consider myself better than some of the people who've been here for 6 years already show I possess the skills to get good at another type of job, even if the skills for my current job are, IMO, stuff I learned in AP CS in high school.
Another question is- what kind of QA? Does your job title contain the words "engineer"? Are you writing programs for hardware that tests an object or code for test programs? You shouldn't have to worry about much if it does, QA is a very common entry level position and getting out of it is usually a matter of simply other positions opening up and less to do with your own skills.
And this isn't a dupe, QA is NOT the same as tech support.
The fact you've been stuck on it for 2 years means you basically have to list it on your resume, since a 2 year black hole of joblessness is something incredibly suspicious. But don't count it as something towards your professional experience, stick it on the bottom of the resume under job experience, where working at McDonalds would go.
Also, be up-front about your situation, but don't bring it up. If they ask about working as tech support, straightforwardly, tell that you've been applying and getting interviews, and haven't had much luck, and don't want anyone to think that your idea of being a computer engineer is telling people to plug in their modem. Apply online such as monster and attend job fairs as well, where you'll be more likely to be hired by companies who are in more desperate need of employees.
At the very least, you'll get some tips as to WHY you weren't hired. Also, make sure you are good at programming. That's way more important than knowing how to use an operating system or put together computer hardware.
My impression about what is so cool about this is that it allows you to simulate a real electric guitar sound. That's not something I've seen very often (I think a premium version of Fruity Loops had it but thats it, and it was kind of limited). If done right they've entered territory that really hasn't been seen much before, if at all. Ultimately, this could at the very least be a tool to help create real music, as it may allow you to flesh out how something should sound before you figure out what tabs to make and how to perform it correctly.
If this just ends up being some MIDI sound studio though I'll be disappointed. My impression is that it takes MIDI in as a tool to set the notes, but the sound itself is not MIDI... hopefully...
I'll get one when they sell a $100 or less player that also plays AVCHD (the format for HD camcorders).
Fact is, the current price is representative of nothing more than greed- they're trying to slowly lower the price so they can hit all values of the economic curve. They still aren't targeting the mainstream.
Remember when portable DVD players were over 1000 bucks? Now they are $120. Everyone remembers this kind of price drop. We're just waiting. We can wait, most BD disks are overpriced upscaled DVDs to begin with.
And whats up with Sony's obsession with making their DVD / BD players take up so much space?
Ok I'm seeing conflicting information here- was it her password was weak, or was it the password recovery question that was weak? Was the answer to either her zip code?
Maybe she wanted a public "fan-mail" account? I don't know. I can't imagine why she'd make two as well. Maybe she didn't want someone else making those accounts first and posing as her. Maybe she was proud of being elected governor and wanted to rub it in. I suppose I would be tempted to do the same. Maybe her child originally made the accounts, and Palin accesses them using yahoo messenger without even caring what the password is (I don't use yahoo messenger- can you get your e-mail from it?)
Don't get me wrong here, I'm not a fan, I think Obama's ticket is better for country, if not only because it shows the middle east that yes, its possible to get a different party in charge. My dad is a hardcore republican and he was ecstatic that Palin was selected - because she wouldn't be governor anymore. He thinks "McCain will win as long as she doesn't open her mouth". Really, there isn't a good reason Palin should have won over Binkley except that the area she represented had a much larger population than her republican opponents during the primaries. And anyone who wasn't Frank Murkowski would have won the election.
But seriously, give her the benefit of the doubt a little. I'm assuming your trying to imply she created those accounts to conduct government business "under the radar". If she wanted to do that she would just talk to someone in person. Its very easy, creating an e-mail account that flat out gives away who you are is by far the most illogical way of doing that. On the bright side, if she is elected, she probably won't make this mistake again.
Palin is trusting, which based on where she lives, is plausible. I heard most people in Canada don't bother to ever lock their doors. Using your zip code when the e-mail is self identifying is kinda stupid though.
People justifying this is bullcrap though, if someone walked into your house and started snooping around while you were taking out the trash, you'd want them arrested. Think of an web e-mail account as a free apartment. You don't own the property itself but what is inside is still yours (at least until you move out).
People sometimes forget the correct government e-mail account but remember the personal account. They send it to your personal account. There's no "undo" for sending e-mails unless you are under a MS exchange server. You tell them to stop doing that next time you see them in the hallway. This isn't her sending stuff out from the account, this is her receiving e-mail.
Wouldn't a 120 Hz LCD screen work with existing shutter glasses? Will nvidia intentionally gimp their drivers like they did before if it doesn't detect the exact hardware its looking for? I'm sure my e-dimensional glasses would work fantastic if I could find a 120 Hz LCD monitor. Right now I settle for less than perfect 3d, but at max resolution its not so bad. Its a matter of getting used to it.
Your missing the point. There's no argument against that you should slow down when working with flaggers/ construction entering traffic/ etc. The point is when construction isn't even occurring at all, you still have these speed zones in place. If you only do construction from 6 pm - 10 pm, and all lanes are open, why reduce the speed limit throughout the whole day? If construction only occurs on wednesday and thursday, why are speed zones set to 55 mph in a 65 mph zone for 8 months out of the year, with concrete barriers hazardously blocking areas of the interstate that aren't even being worked on. Its irritating. Literally there was a construction zone that went on for over 2 years because the money ran out for it. And yet, they kept the speed limit signs up when nothing happened for months.
There's no traffic being directed. The workers are much farther away from you than oncoming traffic.
I live in Boise ID, there's always construction at some point on the interstate, that literally just sits there for months, even years with you driving by it and nobody actually doing anything. No lanes are closed or anything, just a reduced speed limit that people tend to ignore. However, when you get two people side-by-side who take the speed limit literally at the more busier times, traffic just stops for miles. The lanes bunch up because everyone catches up, and things get compounded when those bunched up lanes get even worse from cars trying to merge in or change to the lane they need to be in. If they hadn't had gotten bunched up from the reduced speed limit, there wouldn't have been as much of a problem. Cars would of had room between other cars to merge on smoothly or change lanes smoothly
The point I was trying to make really, was that 55 mph is still REALLY fast to be driving near a person on the side of the road, which isn't even happening, so why have it at all. Either slow it down to 25 where its safe to be near people (which is entirely not necessary in this situation), or don't bother.
Oh yeah, and the construction workers stick barriers on the shoulder for merging onto the interstate, so you have to go fairly slow if at a glance the lane your merging on to isn't completely clear, since there isn't much wiggle room to be looking one direction (behind you and to your left) and driving the other. I might add, at the on-ramp near me, they haven't done any construction at all except put up barriers and reduce the speed limit. For 5 weeks, and for probably much more.
And don't forget a gallon of diesel costs more and provides more energy per gallon. So lets say the numbers given are worst case: imperial gallons- translate diesel into unleaded by dividing by approx 1.12 (depending on the fuel type, I had trouble getting solid numbers: Diesel 139000 BTU and unleaded 124000 BTU per gallon) and its 54 / ~1.12 ~= 48.2 mpg if it was regular unleaded. Of course, there may be other factors that allow a Diesel engine to be more efficient.
While Diesel costs as much as it does, I don't see this car catching on in the US until its converted to unleaded. Isn't 48 mpg about what the prius gets after they adjusted the mileage numbers?
Spore beat them to it, and of course others too. Spore's png files also has the creature's save file in it as well, probably located just beyond the end of the file png's file. You can literally drag and drop a png picture from a webpage into spore and it'll add it.
Hardly a novel idea. Pretty much any combination file type encompasses this patent. Adding text to a picture is by far the most basic usage possible.
Kerry lost by 3 million electoral votes? Wow!
Or maybe you are under some strange impression the system works using popular vote...?
Phhhtt, no mere mortal human anyways.
On the other hand, us super huma-
Nevermind. Carry on.

I'm not aware of any Muslims who don't practice their religion quite seriously.
yeah I looked it up online, on your desktop shortcut add "-jobPriority:0" to the path and it fixes everything the newest patch broke.
And yet, their casual audience will never find that nor understand what I just said meant.
That episode was terrible.

Summary doesn't say one caused the other, just one could have caused the other. Its the headline that is misleading, as usual.

I tried doing that in an automatic and I was told that it was bad for the engine, when you switch out of neutral and your moving.
Another topic reduces into a Slashdot circle jerk.
Ever read the book, The Giver? That's what I think of when I see "this action will result in several individuals on the team being released".
Go look up the book if you haven't.
