Media hounds could also be considered as people who want to do any sort of recording. I haven't been able to find a linux open-source equivalent that is as easy to use as Cubase with ASIO and support for the Firepod. That is all that is keeping me from making the full switch to linux.

America is a country where a small amount of freedom has been removed from the people in order to insure their security Would you say you feel more secure with these measures in place? Or is it simply sacrificed freedom? If I felt that the government did in fact value the security of the citizens first and foremost, I would agree with this notion of book-monitoring. This is simply surveillance, not security.

There were a couple other examples (Nissan Murano $35,000 USD vs. $50,000 CAD, BMW something $58,000 USD vs. $68,000 CAD)

In other words if I was being monitored by my parents I'd have simply found a way to make sure they can't see what I'm doing. At worst I'd have told them to f-off and challenged them to do something about it. And then pappy whips you with the buckle end of the belt. Sister calls you a brat. Mom cries and wishes it was legal to have a 72nd term abortion. Its happened.

I don't know what it's like in the States, but with Bell Mobility in Canada you can put your phone on freeze which basically holds your phone number, but you get no service whatsoever. I think it's around $8CAD a month. I believe you can still have voicemail on the account, which would wind up being ~$15 a month for an answering machine...

It is basic to the individual brain, not the group mentality. ( see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pack_mentality#Behavi or_in_crowds ) It is possible, then, for a person with a personally altruistic nature to behave in a very selfish manner. North American society has very effectively conditioned us to believe that it is in our best interest to constantly be "looking out for #1". In Nazi Germany, people were conditioned to believe that Jews were a disease. If you were to (semi-)isolate an individual, would they behave in an altruistic manner towards others?

The merger, according to their complaint, would give one company access to more information about the Internet activities of consumers than any other company in the world. Isn't this going to be the case anyway? If google doesn't have access to more information than any other company, that means that some other company would have the most information. Perhaps google has access to more information than the others combined (though I can't imagine that is the case)?

I run into the same problem with my band, if a phone ever goes off during practice it sounds like everything coming out of the speaker is scrambled. The offending phone only needs to be within about 5 feet to wreak havoc. So far the only solution we've figured is "turn your damn phone off when you come here!" but I am very curious as to the cause of this. Is there a shielding or somthing for instrument/speaker cables?

I don't think "mishmashed news" would be a problem for me. I think showing both sides of the story allows people to gather a lot more information and decide for themselves what really happened. It seems like all too often people will simply believe what they're told by the most convenient media outlet and leave it at that. By aggregating all the news from worldwide sources, Google could allow people a much broader view of the world.

"Don't watch pirated films - you'll lose the big screen image quality, and the incredible sound, and your view won't be spoiled by the person that goes to the toilet in front" They might as well be preaching to the choir; these people paid to see a shitty movie, it's quite likely they aren't watching a pirated version. Why anyone goes to a movie theater is beyond me: sticky floors, noisy people, ugly pubescent teens (or maybe /.ers?) making out, the list goes on. If you are going to go the legal way, wait until it's on DVD, rent it (since it won't be worth watching more than once) and forget about it.
