  1. Re:At least it is a place that gets some snow... on U. Michigan Opens a Test City For Driverless Cars · · Score: 1

All the previous posts seem right on target. I'll add that the area is still too small. Maybe they (the US government, or whoever) should turn an old abandoned military base to be used for this sort of test. Some of those places are huge and completely abandoned. Just had to them any features lacking in it's original layout, to make it as real and inclusive as possible, and just populate it with vehicles from any car maker on navigation company requiring a perfect sandbox to play around with the technology. Sure, add some real drivers (stunt drivers, I guess...) to the mix, not only to challenge the self driven cars, but also to evaluate them. After a few months everybody would have tons of great information. And think about it, it's a given that one of the 'documentary' channels would probably jump on board to help finance the whole thing, provided they could find some air time in between the ancient astronauts and pawn shop or auction related reality shows...

I have to agree with this. On top of everything else, what she'll value the most are probably the things that you, and only you, know. Information only you can provide. Most of the other stuff can be taken from other sources. One thing that worries me, when I contemplate my parents' demise (fortunately they're still around, but death is not something we can circumvent), is information about their lives. Family stuff. Not just for practical reasons, like having a thorough medical family history, but just so she knows how things happened. How their parents met, how their lives were like, tough decisions, important episodes, funny anecdotes, strange coincidences, etc. And since she's too young to share some of your interests, you'll probably want to share with her stuff like your favorite movies (and actors, directors, genres), favorite music (bands, artists, songs, albums, periods), TV shows, food, etc. I know this sounds a bit like advice for setting up a cool online dating profile, but trust me, stuff like this can be fundamental in knowing someone. Sometimes what we are like comes down to what we like too...

Undoubtedly there will be moments in her life when she'll wonder what you'd say/think/feel about something. It'd be great if you were able to provide her with a framework to help her navigate that.

Anyway, it's a great thing that you're even considering doing something like that. I'm sure she'll treasure it. Strange as it may seem, if there's the feeling that videos like that (or anything at all for that mater, in any shape or form) may come at certain stages of her life, I'm sure it'll help her deal with your absence.

Having said that, I'm really sorry about the reason you're doing this. I've been through the 'you have cancer' bit from doctors too, and at this point I have no idea whether or not I got rid of it. Anyway, best of luck.

It's not the web designers' fault! I'm a small time self employed web designer. When it comes to designing a website, we don't do what we want! We don't even do what the customer needs. We end up doing what he asks. Most of the time what they ask for sucks, and that's what they/you get.

You are ignoring the fact that it seems like one highly intelligent and technology-developing species could probably not evolve in coexistence with another one on the same planet, at some point one would win and kill off the other one.

Probably not around here, but imagine an earth like planet, about 17 times bigger... Two separate intelligent species could evolve separately and not be aware of each other well until they get close to XX century earth-like tech. Remember we only got to really start moving around in the XVI century. And earth is a relatively small planet. Now imagine something much MUCH bigger.

Still, of course, we have to consider, what would happen if those 2 species met. Would we be talking about human-like vs over-developed-dolphin? :) Or just two different branches of primate evolution, REALLY different (not american indian vs european caucasian different, since those were the same species) that only met when both were culturally advanced enough to actually get along.
