What they're doing may not be right (countless have argued against, some for), but I'd put money on the fact that a company that has a net profit of $21.27 billion (taken from comcasts marketing figures on themselves so take it FWIW) would be able to hire competent lawyers that could tell them to stop what they're doing because they risk being shut down by the FCC. There's nothing illegal about what they're doing, its just in one of those grey areas that the FCC haven't clear up because it benifits them too....for now.
It's obvious their tech support is not read. I called and I also got a load of bull about downloads that sounded scripted. I understand about downloads, but how is that stopping my uploads? Unfortunately the ppl that answer the phone calls like the one your talking about (and this is true for most call centers for any business), are not the people you WANT to be talking to, they're sorta jacks of all trades master of none. The people you want to talk to, you never will get the chance to, unless they call you!
That and Comcast is completely unscripted (while on the phone, not sure about online tech support) which is why you'll hear 3 different answers from 3 different ppl regarding the same issue.
I'm switching providers to someone who actually listens to a question before they give you an answer. Good luck, when you find one let me know. Most call center reps already have set idea of what your issue is when you call them....after all...don't you have to press 1 for sales, 2 for billing and 3 for technical support? Not saying its right they do this....but it is what they're paid to do.
Not sure how much the economy has changed since my days of wow (since it changed every day during them lol) but if your only getting 1s2c per stack, either your server has a bunch of ppl chasing down their own (which does suck), or its time to do a fresh scan for prices in your auctioneer....or get auctioneer lol. Pick whichever applies (if any do).
Wow that is a seriously high SNR.....96dB??? What type of work do you do? I've never had an oppurtunity to work on ANYTHING even remotely that good. Usually I can only manage to bring the SNR up from 20dB to somewhere around 30-40 due to equipment wear/tear and engineering stupidity, and when I do that clients consider me a god.
I mean, I guess I could strive for better, but when it would cost not only the company money (most likely due to the need for a complete architectural rework) but myself as well(time is money after all), why should I have to deal with the stupidty of men and woman that should have went to school for the same amount of time that I did, or at least should know the simple basic rules that govern my field. Screw all that noise....I'll stick to what I'm doing because its not worth it to spend 2-3 weeks longer on site than I already am and not get payed more (god I hate dealing with contracts when this HAS to happen lol)....at least my clients are happy-not my fault they think 30-40dB, when dealing with communicating equipment, is great. Chalk that up to people not understanding the technology. I think even without my training I'd understand that 30-40 out of 100 isn't good, but whatever lol.
I see much thought in your post. Only problem lies in the post itself. Im not argueing for or what these aliens are/might look at. My point is simple and clear. You have now idea what they will look like, from your own post:
Evolution doesn't give you the really crazy horror-movie like creatures, since they just wouldn't survive long enough in their environment, especially not long enough to do space travel. Whose to say they evolved at all? In thier world they're really may be some divine power that sneezed and out they came, or they could just have followed the old saying, "I think there for I am"...who knows? Plus, you have no real idea what thier environment is even like, so who's to say the old horror movies aren't accurate at all....shit they might not even have an environment but live in time itself feeding off of particles that are dispersed from some random source...you and I have no idea.
When you want a civilization that does space travel it really can't be all that different from ours, it after all has to have enough intelligence to build a space ship and a blood sucking zombie just doesn't do that. Why not? because you say a blood sucking zombie wouldn't be able to do complex math? You say imaginary numbers are beyond the scoop of our everyday zombie...maybe so...but again...these "aliens" wont be in a form we'b be familiar with. Shit they might have rules that wouldn't apply to our world...ie for them gravity (if there is a term such as it) very well could be the exact opposite (think: there is no down so how can anything that go up come down?) After all the probably come from a place far from where we are and don't even have to occupy our plane of existance (or any one that we've ever been able to imagine). Again, I'm not argueing either way....what I AM argueing is that YOU as a HUMAN with no experience with any type of alien other than a human one cannot begin to fathom what these aliens would be capable of/what they look like/how they communicate/or what they eat.
How about basing it on humanity? That is a good view on it....but used in this context is completely wrong. We're not talking of humanity here, we're talking about aliens. Who's to say the aliens we communicate with won't be a highly evolved form of parasite that leeches on blood...or since we're dealing with aliens....what if they feed on ANY type of DNA? Then not only would we have to worry about us (which would be the ONLY thing we'd worry about, but all living things would be in for a big suprise.
Basing what an alien civilization "might" do with what WE would do would be completely stupid. Think about it. Even within our civilization ALONE, there are soooooo many cultural differences that what might be acceptable for food or thought of as delicious (think fried rats...or even pigs) in one culture is completely unholy or disgusting in another.
There's a reason we call them aliens after all....they are alien. OUR very basic definition of alien is...after all: unlike one's own; strange; not belonging to one
Basically if you can be fat and play; not a sport So you must not consider football a sport then...I mean 90% of ANY offensive line on ANY team is "fat"
And if you can drink alcohol while playing; not a sport News flash...you can drink alcohol while doing ANYTHING. Would it be healthy (keeping with my football example) for a wide reciever to put 1/5 of vodka into his water bottle...down it while the defense is on the field and then go out and try to catch that hail mary to the middle of the field? No! Not healthy or smart....but it can still be done.
Let the people that play these "sports" decide wether it IS or ISN'T a sport....after all:
1.What makes you (or anyone not playing these "games"-all sports started as games and technically still are) the ideal go to guy for what is and isn't a sport...you just disqualifed FOOTBALL!!!!
2.Do you really fucking care if bridge (going with your "example") is considered a sport?
Contesting a ticket based on GPS data has never before been tested in court." Yes it has...read up. The success rate, though, is the same as the rest of the cases. The majority of whom only get off because the cop that pulled them over never show up in court.
Could it be possible that they happened to have staked the place out in advance and watched the traffic, and the four neighbours all in agreement in their stories led them to believe this isn't just some crackpot but might be legit? Maybe they had the place cased for weeks. Had this been the case they wouldn't have done both the RAID (sp?) and the search warrent. They would have just RAIDED.
No, it isn't) . Tell that to the countless pedophiles that get put away each year due to tipsters leading to search warrents.
Trust me. The police aren't going to be able to get a warrant based on unsworn statements given by a handful of nosy neighbors unless they already have some corroborating evidence. This statement in a thread about illegal wiretapping. lol. Ironic, since all it takes is 1 judge to produce a warrent. If the cop asking for the warrent is "friends" with the judge its a lot easier and takes a lot less, and happens a lot more than you think.
Do you have any friends that are cops? Ever been pulled over by him while you were drunk and speeding? I don't have any friends that are cops, but I did get pulled over for Drunk Driving going 55 in a school zone. You know what it took me to get out of that ticket? My hair cut and a USMC ID. I think it would have taken less had the cop been my personal friend. So I'll trust when you can prove what happens all the time, doesn't.
Currently, they have, essentially, a monopoly in most areas. In my neighborhood, DSL only became available recently and really only through SBC (hiding behind the AT&T name). The "service" is an 1/8th of the speed for barely any less monthly rate.
Believe me, if there was any way to get decent internet without paying Comcrap for it, I'd be doing it. And I'm sure a LOT of other folks would, too. What your describing isn't a monopoly. A monopoly is when there ARE NO other alternatives. DSL being slower for the same price isn't a monopoly, nor is the fact they just became availabe (you can get dial up, and you can get DSL thru yahoo or other companies that provide it...of course you pay thru the nose for installation). Offering a superior (arguable) product for the same price your competition offers theirs...is marketing, not a monopoly.
A monopoly would be like me killing every cow in the world besides my own so I can charge what I want for milk or beef. That is a monopoly. My monopoly would end the minute another cow was born/engineered in someone else's possession.
Plz ppl before we start throwing around the monopoly word with Comcast (or any other service provider) lets understand just what a monopoly is. If it were truely a monopoly you'd either have cable/phone/internet thru comcast, or you wouldn't have ANY service at all with no other options being availabe to you.
If I get pulled over by an officer for speeding, can I send his department a bill for the time of mine he used up while writing me a ticket? Your example isn't even the same. Are you providing that cop a service? No. You were caught doing something wrong and were then pulled over. Only good criminals (pun intended) get paid for doing illegal things.
Now say you owned a computer diagnostic shop, and an FBI agent came to you asking for you to check thru a computer for anything suspicious (this is hypothetical as the FBI doesn't need your help), then you could charge for your service's. The FBI would of course get an order for you to do it, but if you had enough money (IE if you were as large as comcast) you could afford to fight that, and win, and then receive compensation for your effort.

Three or four unaccountable people say so is no "reasonable" grounds for a search in a real democracy. [/quote]
Do you really know enough about US law to make a claim about US law?
Let's put this in another context.
4 of your neighbors call the police and say they believe your running drugs out of your house due to the mass amounts of traffic to and from your house thru the day. That right there is enough for a search warrent (and those statements didn't even come from law enforcement officials), it will lead to a RAID (sp?) if the police already suspected this.
This happened 2 times (first was the warrent, second was the raid) to the house across the street from my home, which is how I know this can, and does, happen.
Do you have to really feel EXACTLY where your being hit? Your telling me the lower right bag pumping into your lower back wont make you turn around and scan from where you got hit at? What difference does it make if you got hit in your foot or in the back of your leg.....I know what direction your in, and in an FPS, after figuring where the fires coming from the only thing left to do is move your mouse up, down then click. At least this will be a step above hit boxes. I mean...the right and bottom hitbox come up....where'd you get hit from?? Of course from behind and to the right...but up or down??? With the vest...(at least I hope) you'd be able to tell because the top, bottom, or both would let you know.
Are you serious? And you complain about that camper that never leaves his spawn! Imagine what effect that would have. You'd have some 11 year old running around like billy bad @ss who'd scream like a girl, swearing hacker up and down, the first time he felt the flash hit him in the back of the head. Then you'd have some 17 year old mamma's boy who does nothing but camp his spawn with an awp and hide whenever he hears footsteps. Wait...that's not that much different then what happens now. Oh well, at least it gives a new spin on team killing. LOL! I'm all up for it! Turn these boys into men! Semper Fi Do or Die lol!!!
it costs $189 for a pint of beer and a pack of pork scratchings (whatever those are) where you're from...jeez, and I thought I was getting ripped at the store. Do yourself a favor, get online, buy yourself a cheap $80 ticket to Philadelphia International, give me a call...and I'll take you someplace where you can get that pint of beer and something (not sure on scratchings) made out of pork for little under $10. Then you can take that $100 and do something nice...like chip in on my very own gaming vest lol.
This reminds me of the time way back when I first got into communications. I used to tell people the reason they weren't getting good reception was due to calium build up on the copper in the cable line. Then I'd refer the job to techs that did a bit of everything so when they came and found out they'd do the job I was to lazy/aggrivated/late to do on my own lol!
It's also not clear that manufacturers can sell you a device and still retain control or virtual shared ownership of that device? Tell that to Vonage who sould you a router to use their VOIP services and (similiar to what Apple's doing here) locked the ports from working with anyone but Vonage. Anyone know whatever happened to this issue, I stopped paying attention shortly after someone posted ways of circumventing this. Any insight as to what happened with Vonage in that case could show what may happen with Apple in this one as its the same (more or less) deal
I remember when I first decided to get started messing around in the 3D world, blender of course cought my attention because it was free. No way I was spending over 500 bucks on something I didn't plan (at the time) on taking seriously.
It, at first (read before I read any tuturial) was very daunting. What with being my first 3d program ever having looked at, and all the keyboard shortcuts. After about 1-5 hours of "messing" around, all I could do was move a few edges on the default cube. SO I ran over to Blender.org to search for some help. That help came quick in the form of the tuturials there. I went thru the first tutorial I grabbed (Noob something or other) and within 1 week I was making my own scenes with my own textures, albiet not very good ones, but still 1 week from complete retard to making Mario (who looked more like Luigi) wave his hand around.
That being said, and having blender been the only program I've ever used, once you get around the keyboard shortcuts (as I think that was the hardest thing for me to do) blender is very easy to use.
My friend and I have gone thru a couple tests (just to judge my skill level) using maya (i think thats what he uses) doing a couple of different models (mostly inanimate objects like spoons, chairs, tvs things like that) and when you look at the times that we've finished those models (making sure everything was done as close to the same as possible) every time I've finished my model first. Granted his look better, but not because of the time spent on it (because he was trying to go for exactly the same thing as me and vice versa), but because of his experience in knowing around the exact settings for the certain look he was going for. Mine always come out to something and not enough of another. You always know what I was going for, but things like the shine, or reflectivity isn't as good as his, but that comes with experience.
All in all, after been using blender for little more than 6 months (yeah I'm still new to it), for what I've paid for it (read nothing) I'm completely happy with what I'm able to do, and once I get a hang of it will start making my first game once I find a tuturial I can understand. Now granted, it wont lok the best, but again, polish is something garnered from experience. So if your looking to try and make a picture perfect fighter jet, no application will make that easy out of the box, that type of thing comes with experience (i feel like im beating a dead horse with a stick here lol). You have to learn every UI, so what difference would it make if blenders isn't industry standard if its your first 3d app and you have no plans to go pro? I have never had an issue with blenders UI, I can move it around and change pretty much whatever I want with it. Who cares that it doesn't look like Maya's? I've never used it and dont plan on it until its either free or I go pro! Yeah industry buffs might say it sucks or whatever, but then again....newb to newb blenders a good choice. After all, who cares what kind of golf clubs Tiger Woods uses? They're not going to improve your shot much if at all!
Gotta love the catoys (however you spell it)(thai cross dressing hooker). Most of them would make supermodels look like a homely bull dike. Its really scarey just how much they can pull of looking like a woman. There was really only one way I could tell the difference...if the chick was taller than 5'5" there was a good chance that was because she wasn't a chick.
Do you believe in throwing fantastical opinions around? Or do you simply believe in jailing innocent men? Because in no way did I even mention a jury, that's a means of judging someone with a group of their peers. Not a test that everyone (including the ones tested) is being misled into believing is 100% accurate. There's a difference between finding a man with a gun in his hand offloading it into someone's head, and finding a man who picked that gun up moments before you arrived. Just because he had the gun in his hand doesn't mean he did it. You can spin my words any way you want, that's your interpretation. My point is, no hard proof, no right to convict, innocent or guilty. Why are you the only one that seems to think his opinion is the only one that matters? Why am I even defending my opinion to you anyway? After all the whole judicial system tries to justify that opinion for me...it is innocent until PROVEN guilty...isn't it?

This isn't the first time this has happened at Best Buy, it is (at least as far as I know) the first time tiles where used as a filler! lol.
