I agree that it shoudn't be done all willy-nilly without there being a standard but this seems like a pretty simple thing to deal with. what disabled person has problems using the web? the blind. thats it.
there are those in wheelcharis but the web need not be wheelchair accesible if its not also sneaker accesible.
this seems like something that the industry would figure out how to do for themselves. how hard is it to make a website that blind people can navigate? why isn't it this way already? this seems to me to be a case where the judge can just say "look follow the w3c and standardize around that." if you're going to have an image map then you ought to by the demands of good design have text links somewhere on the page.
this is just business being dumb.
BTW, disclaimer, my mom is blind.
but is the GPL source available?

I understand you can't download the crossover components et al but things like the kernel are supposed to be available aren't they? or, oops do they get around that by supplying a dozen cds in the box? but, then if they had a minor upgrade or patch that was downloadable wouldn't they have to have downloadable source for any GPL material?
but I like debian the most. I don't knwo but I feel more comfortable with debian than I ever have with any other distro. Its just feels solid and reliable. I likes it. It just tastes good.
and we've had this discussion before about debian not being for everyone. well linux isn't for everyone either. OS X isn't for everyone, windows isn't for everyone, AmigaOS isn't for everyone. use what you like. I likes debian.
I am well aware that the United States is the only nation to ever use nuclear weapons in was. Hiroshima and Nagasaki. We do remember that. Trust me. There is a shitload that the United States has done that I'm not totally copacetic with. There is also a shitload that I'm totally thrilled about and proud of.
Why is it that when people try to down the United States they forget instantly all the good shit we've done?
I figure we should get mege kudos for ending ww I and WW II. So next time someone reminds me that the unites states eneded ww II with two nuclear bombs I'll remind them that we did exactly that. ended those wars.
fuck did anyone forget that with out the united states Germany would most certainly be what we call europe now?
are we about to start a war in Iraq? No. We're going to finish one. Do I like bush? hell no. Do I hate Saddam? yeah, I kinda do.
If this was written by a normal human who actually likes the product (ala the apple switch campaign) then my niece is a monkey.
Does microsoft not realize that there is nothing higher than being "number 1!" why do they have to trash those that have 1-5% market share? People with whom they are partners or have been in the past. don't they ever get that things like this just make them look mean? There are some of us that actually do buy things based on whether or not we feel the people running the company are "good people". Microsoft stopped seeming to be "good people" decades ago.
see this is the sort of occasion when someone needs a.22 round behind the ear. this is just greed and mean spiritedness and there is no cure for that other than the aformentioned.22 or a visit from the spirits of past, present and future.
congrats on five years. how many websites can say they've lived that long?
and I have to say (this will sound like ass kissing but I've got karma to spare) this is the only site I'm guaranteed to read every day, several times a day.
no one will likely ever see this but I just need to bitch about moderation. I never do and I have super duper karma so I don't care really. but. calling a comment redundant means that that comment was already made in some form previous the comment being moderated. thats what redundant means. saying something that has already been said. ok got that figure out now? I know there were only about 15 comments when I made my post and none of them made the same comment I did. have you considered that you are reading a thread? just because you see 20 messages before mine doesn't mean they were written before mine. check the damn times you twits.
ok sorry. just tired of messages being marked redundant when they are in fact original.
I'm just gonna write to Mr. Costello and explain that I am now unable to hear his music at all. I use linux and they don't play Costello on the radio all that much anymore.
Last time I heard Costell was during an interview on Fresh Air on NPR.
I think linking to/. stories is actually valid in certain instances.
depending ont he topic I get more news and information from the comments some of our more brilliant members post than from any sort of news analyst.
how many times has their been a topic on slashdot where the person directly responsible for that bit of news has posted followups to questions or arguments of commenters?
just a f'rinstance. Bruce Perens let go from HP. shortly thereafter, Bruce Perens gives us background personally in a comment on slashdot.
That is a geeky example but is recent which is why I point it out.
I've also learned more about more intersting things from slashdot comments than I do from reading the paper.
Also (I keep thinking of things) frinstance, it was psted on slashdot that Virginia Beach would be installing criminal cameras at the oceanfront. Immediately you get reaction from actual citizens of Virginia Beach.
And nothing beats a story about Antartica followed by a comment from a scientist in Antartica.
I know that being able to prove you know the material may be important to many of us but for me this is just nifty as hell. science and computers and all that nifty geek crap we're into is my hobby. I don't think I could ever be a quantum physicist for a job but I love "the knowing" of it.
This is very cool for those of us that just want "the knowing."
I thought sirius only got fully rolled out less than a year ago.
oh.. another eula thing... snooze...
ok. thanks for the clarification.

so all I'm concerned about, will this allow me to have different resolutions on different virtual desktops? I'd like that.

sorry. got pissed off.
when was the last time a compan released a firmware update that actually provided something you wanted?

sorry. it just always bugs the crap out of me.
I admire the openbeos people. i hope they succeed in making a viable beos that I can run.
unfortunately I'm afraid beos will, like os/2, go down as being the os we wished that was.
I've used os/2 and beos and at least 30 other OSs and those two I miss most of all.
a surprising number of drivers can be found in all age ranges. not surprising since cars have been around for almost a hundred years.
I just want one so that when I'm browsing the web it looks more like I'm working some incredible incantation.

I keep hearing about apple's open source releases but I never hear about anyone doing anything with that source.
has anyone got any Apple OSS project working?
oh, wait. he already has.

I have no idea what the hell you're talking about but it certainly sounds impressive. :)
folks chill out. It's sci-fi for one. its different. new. and we dont' get much sci-fi that lasts for very long.
second. it just started. give it a season before we thrash it.
third. joss whedon. buffy. angel. he knows how to write.
fourth. what have you written lately?
