  1. hope it succeeds. on Solar Sail to be Launched This Year · · Score: 2

very very excited by this launch but I hope it works in ways I don't normally worry about launches. whats the chance that NASA would try a solar sail if the russians fail? and the russians don't strike me as being pioneers anymore. ok this is pioneering but they don't strike me as being successful pioneers of late. good luck ruskies.

  2. maybe I'm getting too old on Star Wars Digital Projection Theaters · · Score: 2

  3. magazine racks on Senate Bill Would Make Clandestine Video Taping Illegal · · Score: 2

free speech is guranteed so long as your excercise of that right does not interfere or infringe on the rights of others. You have the right to sell Playboy but we ask that you cover any images that might be visible to a child standing in a book store. and that you move the magazines out of a minor's reach.

Isn't this the same as asking porn operators to move to .prn? can't you just say that .prn is the brown band around the magazine cover? A simple mouse click would ban .prn sites from your computer without a password and essentially you never have to worry again that your child is seeing inappropriate material. And those things that might seem inappropriate but aren't could remain unblocked. (beaver college? remember?)

I think .prn is a great idea that pretty neatly solves alot of problems that legislators have. We don't allow pornographers to sell their wares on mainstreet. why would we allow it on the mainstreet (.com) of the net? and as far as other nations go just ask them if they would mind. would it be that big a burden? there comes a point where a person's rights contradict common sense and neighborliness.

Yet when a software company that does good creates an honor sytem club type thing we crap on it. I hope it is a huge success. As far as I'm concerned if I join the Mandrake Club I'm not a member but more a patron of software. I can make suggestions to the developers and they implement them and I show my appreciation by paying a certain amount to continue that work.

Not the Knuth of Mathematics either. Knuth's titles are enough to make my toes curl and my brain fry. Just a layman's intro to Math will do. I'll ask again when I've figured out the first one.

There aren't that many macs they need to test on. unlike the pc world the hardware for a mac is mostly unchanging from one machine to the next. why can't they get something as simple as the proper sound output driver correct?

no offense, I'm not distro maintainer but that just seems like an easy one.

I just got a maxtor 40 gig not long ago. (have to keep the pr0n and mp3s someplace) it cost me like 100$ which isn't bad at all but how long will it last? I've been buying cheap so I don't feel bad when the drive dies in a year. You can't say that you get what you pay for either cause I've seen super expensive drives that were trash, case in point the 120gxp. so i call on the minions that read /. and use drives more than anyone. what do you recommend? 5400s are fine for my uses.
