how can companies sell products that are able to use bandwitdth-hungry features like streaming netflix, then get mad when users do that? if i am sold a phone capable of using netflix, i expect to be able to get the highest quality stream, limited only by hardware and connection speed. these companies are always putting the horse before the cart. maybe make sure all your users can fully use all the features of the product you are selling them, before you sell them. fail infrastructure is fail.

i really do wish hulu or netflix would pick-up hbo and/or shotime as a partner, with an additional but fair price increase, say $5-7. it's $14.99 thru cable but that quality is better, i can record it(if only at lower dvd res), etc., so a balance must be struck. i think that is part of the problem. these companies expect the same pricing when they take away more consumer abilities. if i can no longer record to a permanent copy, then you must charge less. they think just because they found a new (at the time) revenue stream of tv on dvd, that they can eschew all the people that had been home recording for the previous 2 decades, but i'm not having that. i personally subscribe to cable and have a dvr, but for some reason i can't just dump all the hd recordings via firewire, so i do download copies of all the shows i watch. find me a legit way to do that, included in my subscription for no increase, and we'll be about square. kind of went off-topic but whatevs.

exactly. i 've always thought it should have to be made available to be protected. it'd also help do away with back-in-the-vault shenanigans. there is plenty of media that will never be released because they are not commercially viable, but will they just sell me the fucking .iso download (at a rate that makes up for the removal of all third parties. sure bandwidth costs something but is nothing compared to packaging/shipping/retail) and make their cash? noooo. people WILL get what they want, one way or the other.

fine. let's fix the system. from now on, anything publicly subsidized will also be publicly profitable, in any industry. if you get any sort of government money while making money, the goverment gets a return on its investment, before you do. how about that?
isn't a huge part of why everyone bashes government in regards to its spending directly related to shit like this? why is it that, even without the wars, our military spending still goes up every year, even more than during the cold war? is it because contractors funnel money to congress to funnel even more back to their districts as 'jobs', many of which exist only to keep the cycle going? do we really need whatever that new jet is that they've been dumping billions into for the past decade? can any branch of the military really not do any of its own logistics?
i mean if we're so gung-ho about the government giving out money willy-nilly, where is the free health care, college-for-all and what-not? surely those are equally important for the preservation of our nation's future, right?
